Nice work. After the dealer couldn't fix mine..04 A8, the controller under the battery shorted and started a fire. The unit was made in Malaysia. A pile of plastic and charred wires. The service guy said it only controls the brake, so i just cut it off. No more parking brake! Btw, you can easily remove the electric motors on the caliper and unscrew the parking brake so you can replace the pads. They always put extra parts on cars...
Dealer couldnt fix a leaky faucet. You need a independant guy. You can use a tork bit to retract the caliper once the motor is removed. I prefer to fix things whenever possible and cant stand malfunction lights in the dash cluster. The module cost around 60$ on ebay. I have a spare wiring loom if you wanted to fix the wiring (easy) and plug in a new one. These are not component protection locked so they dont require dealer to code, only a scan tool.
I just bought an 04 Audi A8 and the a service parking brake light just came on yesterday. I do have an obd2 scanner, but have not scanned it yet. The parking brake works just fine as it engages and disengages on the pull of the handle. I have been hearing a lot of things about the vcds software and it sounds like almost nothing on the car can be done without it. So my question is, how would you go about getting this software?
You wont be able to do anything with a obd2 scanner. Your parking brake issue could be only on one side not working . They clamp so well that one is enough to hold the car. Vcds or vagcom is sold by a company called Rosstech

Yes and no, you can but better not as you'll be left with old codes and wont be able to set the pad thickness. If youre stuck and need to put new pads you can remove the electric motor and use a tork bit to retract the caliper. BUt thats about it. It wont solve the warning light
try putting it on and off 3 times in a row. Otherwise you need vcds or other high end scanner. It could have one side stuck not moving. Have you tried with wheels off the ground? Car will stay put even with only one working. Very strong gearing. But just get a genuine vcds license. You can stay save and only use it to see codes so that other people can help you faster
Daily drive my 2013 audi a8l every 3 weeks or so i get the parking brake light along with abs light and esp, air suspension fault hill start assist fault and very rarely the epc light will come on.... yet parking brake works fine, so do the brakes. light always goes away by itself in a day or 3 at most im thinking brake light switch or some other sensor/wire issue because car runs fine. replaced all rotors pads and sensors fluid flush and fill what could be the issue? any information is appreciated
Dont be afraid with all the different system at fault. Most likely, all those system depend either on the same sensor or depend on each other. A scan of all those affected modules would yield dependancy codes. By the affected modules you are telling me Id start with the level control. A bad level sensor can do all that. When those fail, they start by being intermittent. Still, you are not fixing it without software. You cant throw parts at a8, they still wont work and you
Hey man same problem here. Brake works just fine when I pull it and push it but somehow it beeps all the time as if it is still on while none of the brakes are active. Driving became hell and I am not able to go to a mechanic . I am thinking of cutting off the EPB fuses just so this annoyimg sound goes away. I dont need handbrakes either. What would you say?
It`s a parking brake motor that froze. There is a bearing in there that can rust if the parking brake isnt used often. An D3 a8 will beep over 10 km/h for 1 minute straight. Then it if you go below 10, it will reset and it will beep another minute once you resume driving over 10km/h. If the motor is frozen, it will log a fault. Supply voltge for EPB motor either left or right I've opened and fixed those motors with 100% success rate but I have access to a lot of tools. It`s always the frozen bearing for lack of use, or the connector that got corroded. I would rather fix it that delete it. You will have more problems than you think deleting it. on the a8, the car mesures brake pad thickness with this motor. So you will have 2 permanents malfunction light flashing in your dash, with the beeps on startups, plus a brake pad worn message. Get a used caliper, remove the motor and replace yours, then cycle the parking brake 3 times. Done deal and you`ll only MAYBE need to set pad thickness

@@armandorodriguez8319 Im not familiar with obeleven but I know for fact you can damage the module from undervoltage. Can you talk to the module at least? usually when they go bad you can talk to them but theyll say wiring is open circuit on a wheel or both
Can someone please tell me which wires should be power or ground to retrofit these calipers to another car? Which of the smaller wires are signal/trigger wires to activate the electromagnetic solenoid and clamp the rotor? Thank you
there is no electromagnetic solenoid. Dont know where you got that idea from. It's just an electric motor and hall sensor for pulses. Big wires are the motor, small wires the sensor
@@Veikra Yes you are correct. Must one or both of the small wires be connected to power or ground to initiate rotation in either direction of the motor?
Hello man i just got the warning for parking brake malfunction , i was got 2 disck 2 pads and 2 abs sensors , had change them , using a delphy scaner , it was all good i have earsed the warnings and faults , and the next day in the morning i jumped into the car and got the warning again what can be or what advice me to check , please im in really need of help , no mOney to bring the car at the mecanics it wont let me start the engine , some one told me to check the brake fluid and is all good :((((
Starting engine is unrelated, so I would check battery cables. Maybe the power goes too low. Did you try to start it several times? When battery goes too low the first turn of the key wont work, you have to remove key and redo it. Check battery voltage first. The car wont even try to start below 10V or so. Let me know.
@@Veikra the last time the battery was 12 v and after when i was with the scanner into the car started to drop as i was more than 2 hours , so i just placed the battery on charge and il check the voltage again before i try , an il be back with news , cant remove the errors as is telling me is no comunicating with ecu
Hello, I am from India. 6 months ago I purchased AUDI Q5(2013 model) i.e. second hand.From 2-3 months back I am facing problem in starting my AUDI. It shows message like stability fault program, parking brake error and gear box malfunction. I showed this problem many technicians but no one can fix it. It takes 15 mins to start the car. Could you please suggest some solution to this?
Because now we are so tired of this that we are thinking to return it. Initially in the starting 2-3 months we didn't face such problem. From last two months we are facing.
@@satyashah3045 without scanning it there's no telling what the root cause is. Whatever mecanic you took it to isnt qualified. Otherwise you'D have malfunction code to go from and find the problem. Find another mecanic to do a full electronic scan of the whole vehicule and ill help you then once we have the codes. Otherwise, it's impossible to do anything
Hey, I wonder if you can help. I have purchased a A8. It was parked for 7 months. It looks like my rear brakes pads are either finished or are binding on the discs. I have the parkbrake light flashing on the dash and when I apply the handbrake, I can hear the sound of a motor on the rear passenger wheel that lasts for 2-5 seconds. Any thoughts or suggestions
@@maulajatt5655 No, you CANNOT throw part at an a8, it will ruin you! YOu need a capable scan tool to see and and diagnose the problem. Even if you replaced the caliper youd still have the light. THe brake pads thicken needs to be programmed in and a basic setting initiates. You need the tool to replace the brake pads anyways. Otherwise, you need to find a good honest mechanic with the scan tool and that just wont replace parts without proving them bad first. These cars are amazing if you have such a mechanic and they are terrible if you have an old school mechanic that simply swap parts hoping it will work. For instance, reading the code on mine pointed me to a bad wiring connection. I would have replaced both calipers, pads, disk and STILL would have had the malfunction light. That's how people get robed at the mechanic because he's not knowledge enough to work on these
@@Veikra I completely understand what you mean but my car has has parked for 7 months and the brakes must be binding on the discs. I don't know as I have also no wheel locking nut. Do you know any good mechanics for these cars in the North West area
@@maulajatt5655 it's got a malfunction light so either it's not only binding or the battery went flat over the 7 month it didnt run. I sadly can't suggest any mechanic in that area. Those car's limitations are always access to a good honest mechanic. I advise heading over to audiworld forum to look for one. That's a good place to look for knowledgeable mechanics passionate about those cars.
There are about 4 suppliers in the UK, I recently used one called gendan and they are there and post stuff quickly There are rip off cheap vagcoms and copies of the genuine one... but they are crap, mess about, don't recognise the usb lead so you have to piss about with it everytime you boot it up, not all the functions work Real paid vcds works. You pay for 3 car version, upgrade to 7 for another 80 quid, uograde further to unlimited cars for another few quid. I got the 3 because I only have 2 Audis and am covered if a friend is in trouble or I replace one of my motors. Diagnose before you get the spanners out
