Me and my dad fixed the switch. It’s was cold (we are in Chicago) we got it out but I was tasked with popping it back into place a few days later. My dad was proud of his babygirl lol( I’m 50) Thanks a bunch for the video.. I’ve been in the garage with my dad since I was 3 grease monkey on purpose
2008 Merc Mariner won't start replaced tumblers was fine, now I'm told it's stuck in theft mode. Help please this is third repair this month. Last was front tranny mount and it still vibrates. Yes looking for different vehicle, can't sell it this way. Thanks for any advice. Jokes aside 😜
Hi Joey my name is Jonathan and Ohio I just did the ignition switch replacement watch your video like 50 times and I just wanted to tell you how much I thank you it worked perfectly as soon as I turned it over
Joey 2010 Ford focus won't start until I move the console shifter up and down or in nuteral. Does this sound like a numeral safety switch? Is it under the console?
Thank you! I picked up the new switch for $61.00 and had it installed in 10 minutes! I was quoted over $1000 by mechanic to replace the whole steering column. Plus $500 labor! Starts EVERY TIME 😃 Again Thanks!
I’m having the same problem with my 08! Have you figured out what the deal is? I’ve checked all grounds, fuses in passenger kick panel box, ALL my fire and fuel components are new Motorcraft. I noticed the normal relay tick when turning ignition to on but after 1 second of engine turning over the relay clicks every half a second while engine turning over but not starting…click click click click no start
@@Quick_Fast_Hurry It turns out it was the Key. I had to get a key made at a locksmith kind of shop and then they said it wasn’t programmed correctly so I had to go back and get 2 keys made again (but not programmed at the locksmith shop) and take it back to the automotive shop and let them program them. Huge pain man but it finally starts up every time buddy. Hope you figure it out. Very very frustrating
Thanks Bud. I ordered a new pcm that came with non ford brand keys. I swapped the ignition switch today no luck so since I’m getting P2006 I’m removing the intake plenum and checking butterflies, imrc and cmcv. Oh what joy muhahaha
@@Quick_Fast_Hurry I’m not a Mechanic at all. I hate working on Vehicles 😁. I’ve changed Radiators and breaks and other stuff before but I’m not a fan. My key was broken in half when I first got it (the plastic part with the chip) it worked fine for a whole year taped together then it started acting weird, but I actually thought it was the ignition. Hope you get it working bro 👏🏼💪🏼
Thanks ! I was able to change my ignition switch on a ford focus 2011 pretty easy , saved me money i needed for my sons hockey 🤗so thankful for theese easy explain you tube account// Cecilia
Part arrived, removed old part, installed new part, connected wires....turned key once, engine started!! (Total of 10 minutes). THANK YOU FOR THIS $$ saving video!
Clear, easy instructions. Fixed my starting problem that has stranded myself and my wife on a couple of occasions. Fixed it in under 10 minutes for the price of the part. Dealer quote was close to $2000 CAD. Thanks my man!
Thank you so much!! I watched your video at work, stopped for the part on my way home ($53), and did this in less than a half hour (the sun was in my eyes!!). My car started right up. Affordable and easy, I feel so great not paying a ton of money for someone else to do it 10 minutes faster. I have a 2009 Ford Focus.
Sadly, manual start systems are being replaced by push button electronic start. Key lock and ignition switch is so much easier to troubleshoot and maintain.
G8 video for diyers, but you didn't mention any symptoms/ testing one should go through to arrive at this conclusion. There are at least 5 other things that will cause these particular vehicles to no crank no start.
After searching over 30 minutes on Google for a video of replacing the ignition switch on a 2004 F150 I happened to find your video. You answered my question about whether if it's necessary to remove the steering wheel. So thank you. I highly recommend that you copy this video under a new name, like "Replacing Ignition Switch on [year] F-150". I think you'll get a lot more RU-vid hits with that title.
My Ford truck F-150, 2007 yr. XLT 5.4 Tipton. It maybe the relay switch or the ignition switch. Are they the same thing? Which do is the right switch to change out?
I have a 2010 Ford Escape XLT 3.0L This video was spot on for the problem with my ignition. Took me 20 minutes from start to finish thank you Joey. I had absolutely no problems doing this. Cost me $53.00 to do. It pays to look online before you go to the dealership. Thanks again !!!!!
brother thank you very much this video helped me solve the problem of my truck I just had to buy the new part and ready I saved the towing of the crane and the mechanic you should brother thank you very much
Joey:: I did a ignition switch starter bypass on a 2007 ford edge sel 3.5l:: Simply took 2 wires one the main hot wire on starter and attached a 12guage wire to it and a 14 gauge wire to solenoid and ran through firewall into cabin and found a good place to install a starter button and works like a champ:: Turn key on hit starter button and unnnn unnn coy you go!!! total price:: $25 and no disassembly of the steering wheel covers or none of that at all just pulled underpanel and installed starter button in a clear area and works like a champ::
Awesome. I cant figure out why my car sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't. Sometime wants to crank other times nothing at all. Going through everything.... this car is gonna do me in. Heh
Could mine be a ignition switch all my light and dash lights come on but when I turn my key to start the car nothin happen replaced starter and battery is good
Was it? I’m in the same boat except I’ve also replaced the alternator and battery in addition to the starter. Everything’s been replaced across a three month period.
I watched several of these. They almost purposely make it easy more complicated to get you from not doing it. One video had me pulling out all the wires 🤣. Thank you for your simple and direct way of fixing this. Your awesome.
Will this in any way cause the anti theft mechanism to lock up the ability to start? Did you have to somehow disengage the anti theft to replace this part.
I just did this and no. Once it was installed and started my anti theft was ringing but I shut the door, locked and unlocked and everything is fine. What an easy fix!
Your video was as easy as you showed. Replaced part bought on Ebay this afternoon in less then 20-30 minutes. Hardest part was finding the 5.5mm socket in my tool box. Called Dealer and they said that they could not just replace switch that they would have to replace key along with all other switches for $1500 to $1800 and having the Escape for 2-3 days. Thanks keep up with your videos.
This might be my problem, wasted money changing starter and tried 2 new relays same issue occasionally it wont start and i have to jump the relay. Is there anything else it could be?
Brother I have looked for days to figure out what the problem was with my f-150. Tested everything that I could test but in six short minutes you nailed it. The ignition switch in your escape looks just like the one in my truck and I Couldn’t find the latches to pull the switch out to replace it. Keep up the good work.
My Ford F-150 2000 year has the anti-theft light on the dash board. And it won't start. Some say it could be my key is old and the chip is damaged, a sensor or a fuse.
you’ve probably fixed your problem by now but yeah if the ignition switch is bad all the other electrics should still work as normal, this is how you can tell it apart from a dead battery
My Ford F 150 was doing the same thing. Went into the shop and two weeks later was told it was the ignition key lock and needed a new starter now I' m out about $1,000.
Hello, I replaced the ignition switch on my 2008, the autotheft lights went off when I turn the key but it won´t start, I put again the old ignition switch and it start, I believe that in my case the problem is a worm key cilinder.
if you can turn the key and the lights come on its the switch , if replaced and it still doesn't work add tape to the lock cylinder there's a video on it
My problem is when I turn off the car, the battery does not switch off. It’s a Ford e-450 super duty shuttle bus. Someone please help! Don’t want to run mg battery out on accident one day. I have to switch the ignition around multiple times to get the battery to shut down. When I take my key out of the ignition switch and try to open the door, it thinks my key is still in the ignition and beeps at me.
does the small S wire from the Starter Solenoid, lead directly to this Switch? im chasing a NO start and fear the wire is shorted and needs replaced.. :(
Have you tried your ignition starter switch? I'm having the same issue with mine. I've replaced my starter and installed a new battery. I'm going to buy a switch today and give it a go.
Is this a common issue for Ford fusions have a 2010 Ford Fusion sport won’t start and won’t crank only way to start it is to take off positive battery cable on and off then it will start
I'm having a hard time finding my issue. The key turns & is so loose but won't turn on accessories but when I pulled the ignition out from the column I can start it with a screwdriver. The ignition looks fine but it's not making a connection to turn the linkage.
My 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid won't start, I changed the battery still won't start! After I watched the video and I went to Aotu Reilly for the part (Standard) & totally paid $59 and replaced it. Thanks for the video! My car is back to normal now!
It seems like you don’t answer questions, but I'll try anyway. When I turn the key, the relay clicks, but no crank. I've changed the starter, and battery. I'm getting ready to try this change now. Did your relay click?
Joey it’s been a year since you made the fix. How is it now? Did it come back? I have a feeling my problem will come back because dealer “fixed it” but it’s back.
I'm having a problem with my 2010 Escape HYBRID... sometimes the green light comes on and then other times it takes me 20 times and holding my tongue just right. the dealership said it would be 400+$ to fix.... Do you know what I'm talking about and what I can do? TIA
Strange thing happened... before i fixed the ignition switch, my steering would intermittenly go back to manual mode. Now, this is the strange thing... since i changed the ignition switch the power steering has been working fine. I don't think those two things are related but i hope so because then i don't have to fix that. Anyway, maybe when i had to start the car before the repair i would have to turn the key and push really hard into the steering column. Maybe because i don't have to do that any more it's not affecting the steering sensor?
Hey did you ever figure it out? My escape is getting so bad and has been stalling as well not good for traffic very frustrating especially when it won’t start back up. I eventually get it to start doing the tape trick wrapping electric tape around smaller the end of the ignition lock cylinder. I’m thinking about just replacing the lock cylinder. What did you do to fix it?
Great video. We have a 2009 with this issue. As long as we push IN while we turn the key it works no problem. Will this switch replacement fix this issue you think or is it likely the tumbler part where the key inserts into?
Nice little How-to, but I think it would make the video better if you showed the symptoms of the problem and then show that the symptom is gone after replacing this part.
This was happening on our 2005 f150 and it was fairly similar except for i had to remove the turn signal stock (one extra bolt) to access the top clip. Thanks for the informative video man! Straight to the point
My daughter has a 2009 Ford Escape with a Ignition problem. The only way it to start it is by turning the ignition switch on (clockwise a 1/4 turn) Then I need to push the key in with a bit of pressure while turning it to start. If I don't use pressure It wont engage the starter. What is my fix?
Did you figure it out? Same issue as mine but it’s so bad now it never starts and even stalls. The only way to get mine to start is the tape trick so I’m thinking about just replacing the lock cylinder instead of the ignition switch but idk
If your 2008-2012 Ford Escape DOES NOT START, it is most likely the key hole cylinder, NOT THE IGNITION SWITCH. I read a comment from someone else that the replacing the switch only worked for a few weeks and then the problem came back. To fix the root problem for free look up “ Fred’s Auto Waco How to fix ignition problems on a 2010 Ford Escape” (duration is 12:56) I followed this exact procedure on my 2008 Ford Escape and now it works perfectly. Joey, this is an excellent video for anyone who needs a new ignition switch. I just wanted to educate anyone who might be looking at the wrong video. Great job on the clear instructions and camera angles! Cheers.
@@truthvigilante4263 Yes. I asked a friend who’s a tractor mechanic to help me because I didn’t have the equipment. Took about 2 hours and saved me I think over $800
@@truthvigilante4263 just make sure this is the correct fix before doing it lol. I knew this was the right fix because I could feel my ignition progressively getting harder to start, I’d have to turn harder and harder to start the car until one day the metal got worn enough to the point of being too unreliable
