Gaps in vinyl floors are quite common. After a short time, some products shrink and you are left with gaps that can allow water and dirt to penetrate. In this video I will show you my solution to fixing these annoying gaps.
Thank you for this! First time doing peel and stick tiling and some of my attempts at getting those small edge pieces in a very crooked room resulted in gaps.
I heard about this . I thought you had the linoleum product. Now i understand. I didn't think those gaps were that big but you repair made quite a difference.
I am laying a white peel & stick floor so filling in the gaps with caulk will just get dirty over time. I've opted for a silicone & fortunately it's white. It's a bit messy & I've had to scrub the excess silicone off without lifting the stuff that sits in the gaps...a little time consuming and fiddly but it does get rid of those most obvious black gaps in my white flooring quite nicely. I used fairy liquid and sugar soap to lift the excess. I'm pretty sure you can get various silicone in greys & browns or even other colours. I opted for a silicone because I wanted it to clean up nice & white when I mopped the floor. Not sure if a water based item would do that or even a polyfiller would keep clean, depends how porous it is. Its OK if you have a grey or dark floor where you wouldn't notice the dirt so much filling it with caulk. In any case, great video! Thanks
The caulk that I am using is called Color RITE and I bought it at a flooring store. It will get harder than silicone and cleans up great. Silicone would be difficult to work with and you could use a mineral spirits to clean it up. The caulk also comes in many different colors so it would be my choice. Thanks. Stevo
@@stevoj8959 Hey Stevo J! I've been told to be careful what chemicals to use on the peel and stick because of melting interaction with the flooring. Do you think this cleaner you mention would be safe on the plastic flooring?
@@annigard8 I just used a ZEP degreaser and it should not hurt the surface at all, I use it for everything. For nasty grease and dirt it takes a good cleaner to do a good job. Thanks. Stevo
Hello, Just found your post because I just adhesive vinyl flooring tiles installed and have found some where they have a slight space between them now. I looked up Color Rite on their website and it says that this product is "Color Rite sealant and adhesive caulk offers over 450 colors" and is a "Siliconized Acrylic Adhesive Caulk." Is this the same product that you're talking about here? Your tube looks like it is white towards the top near nozzle, but the one I'm looking at online has a brown section near the nozzle? Please and thanks!
My tube I am looking at says Sealant and Adhesive Caulk on it. Have not see one that says Siliconized on it. I looked and the sealant one is available with 450 different colors. I was not aware there were so many. I would try a flooring store if there is one close buy. It is great stuff so I hope you find it. Stevo
@@stevoj8959 Thank you for responding Stevo! I'll try to find a flooring store near me and see if I can look at something firsthand before purchasing online. Thanks again.
How's she goin'? Nice job cleaning first off!! And second, you are an artist to get those colors to match!! A big job eh, but it turned out pretty nice. The color you created sort of acts as an accent for the tiles and makes the floor look good!!! Take care!!
It does look good and thanks for that. It was one of those jobs I had to make time to do or it would of never got done. Sometimes you accept things the way they are but I am really glad I got er done. Stevo
I just looked at my floor and still good to go. I would give it some time to let the tiles shrink completely or you may end up doing it twice. I have done this method a couple of times now. Thanks for tuning in. Stevo
It would be hard to keep this product level with gaps that large. I would suggest using an epoxy grout that comes pre mixed. You would grout it like you would regular tile. Pop into a flooring store, they should have a product. Stevo
Yep that is another solution and it works well. With this type of tile, you can leave a grout line and then grout. I was disappointed when things shrunk and had to fill the gaps but there is always a solution. Thanks. Stevo
It may be a bit thick to put it into the seams but all you have to do is give it a try. At least if it squeezes out, it will be easier to clean up verses a silicone.
@@stevoj8959 Regardless, I’m going to try it on my bathroom floor. Got a tube of gray and of black and white and see if I can come up with something close enough to work with our bathroom linoleum tiles. Thanks so much for your video! 👏
Yes the glue should provide a good seal as long as it is not a prolonged exposure. With the gaps, I was more worried about the grease and dirt. Thanks for tuning in.
