While working on my Filigree Tree project (see link below) my Dremel 3000 Broke down. After a little search on google and youtube, I managed to fix it my self, and here is how I did it.

My Dremel died while grinding welds so I guessed it'd probably be a broken stator wire seeing the fuse checked out OK. This is where the internet is your friend, I looked up a video on how to tear the unit down and sure enough one of the 4 stator wires had broken. I tested it with a multi-meter then identified which had broken off at the terminal. I couldn't unwind the broken wire from the loom so I had to cut one wire and reconnect onto that wire. Tested again with the multi meter and continuity between terminals was restored. The Dremel is now working again fine, took me around half an hour to tear down, repair and rebuild the unit.

Thank you. It worked in my 4300. The wire was too short and I couldn't uncoil it, so I snipped one, hooked it up, and it works

Definitely going to be taking my Dremel 3000 apart now Yuval. Like yours it just stopped, no burning smell, I just put it down to wear & tear & bought a new one but kept the “broken” one for spares. Fingers crossed 🤞. All the best from the U.K.

Thanks to your sympathetic tutorial I maneged to disassamble my Dremel. One of the copper wires was indeed broken. Unfortunately I could not unwind it a bit because it stuck between the spool and the metal base. It kept breakin when I tried to pull some out. But thank you anyway!

Thanks Brendan! I have the Dremel 3000, not by choice, like I said in the video, it was a gift. Until this one, I had a knock off, which was ok. Wasn't great. This little guys, I've used for 5 years now. Not a lot, but I think I'll be using it more and more as I hone on some new skills, and it's a good machine. Some people say the 4000 is better, I wouldn't know since I don't have it. Yuval
@baconsoda
@baconsoda 4 года назад
Thanks Yuval, the 4000 was recommended to me and the person also told me not to go for a cordless because they always die when you are busy. The other option is to buy cheap and replace every couple of years because there's not a lot of difference in performance with a lot of them.

Nice video, Yuval. Super explained and shown! Something seems familiar to me. I got my multi-sander (oscillating tool) from Fein. There was a condenser that was twice as big as normal. :-)

It's disappointing the enamelled copper wire is loosely coiled like that, allowing vibration to gradually weaken the wire. I'm going to try some preventative maintenance and support the stator wire with polyimide tape, or a drop of molten bees wax. Thanks for your video, Yuval. 👍
@yuvallahav
@yuvallahav 3 года назад
Tell me about it ss, I would expect Dremel to make a better quality machine, it seems this problem shows up in different models... at last I'll know what to look for and how to fix it if it happens again, and I might try a dab of hot glue as well to make it more secure. Yuval
@channelsixtysix066
@channelsixtysix066 3 года назад
@@yuvallahav Hi Yuval. I thought about what you said. Beeswax isn't a good idea, since the heat will melt it. So I'll try the polyimide tape, it's also known by its brand name "Kapton". It is used in 3D printers for its heat resistance and to allow the printed object to be released from the plinth. It's just a guess, but I suspect the copper wire is work-hardening under the constant vibration, making it brittle. Then it just snaps. Whatever you do, DO NOT purchase a used Dremel 4200. That particular model was not only a piece of junk, but dangerous. The bit would fly out of the chuck when in use. The 4000 was fine, and the new model 4300 is fine.
@yuvallahav
@yuvallahav 3 года назад
@@channelsixtysix066 That's a sound advice... I'm not in market for a new Dremel anyway, for as long as my 3000 works, and for now it does, but I will keep in mind to watch out for that model. There is a heat resistant hot glue they use to cover and isolate electrical components on circuite boards, wouldn't that do the trick, and would be simpler to apply than the polymer tape?
@channelsixtysix066
@channelsixtysix066 3 года назад
@@yuvallahav The problem with that glue, is that it's more or less permanent, that is, once applied, it will be very difficult to remove if it had to be. At least with polyimide tape it can be carefully removed. The main aim, is to stop the wire vibrating. The 4200 is an obsolete model, so it will appear on the 2nd. hand market. I would only get one, if it had a lot of attachments and bits with it and it was a good price. Those pieces can be used with the 3000. I would not get one on its own.

Why does everyone take the sticker off, lol. Just slice it with a razor blade along the groove beneath it. Idk I'm just OCD Plus I know the secret. For some reason the people that take care of their Dremel, like cleaning it and following through with maintenance are the ones who always have problems. I've learned in a tortuous way ( because I'm OCD) the Dremel's that run perfect for three to five years with out even replacing the bushings are the ones that are dirty a.f. Something's to be said about the creative process of the filthy work station. 🤷🏻‍♂️idk
