PLEASE IGNORE MY COMMENTARY ON COOLDOWN REGEN. I do not know what I was talking about at 2:00 AM last night when I decided to make this. CDR is good because more button press good is all you need to know. I didn't want to edit out the mistake as it felt somewhat disingenuous to do so. I also meant to mention that if you prefer more damage over the defensive side with your two free points you can go for the 20% infested and unyielding node, but it's really unnecessary with this weapon imo. One thing in hindsight I wish I would have mentioned is that Shroudfield also offers you more fluidity with your decision making - It does not lock you into an animation and allows for full camera movement. There are situations where, after dashing in, you wish you had not or could angle yourself more to the left or right. Something to keep in mind! Thank you for your time in watching! EDIT: One thing I don't mention which is my fault - You do recieve I-Frames from Fury and additional rending. If used properly, this does lead to better ease of use and a more consistent experience if you're not capable of utilizing map verticality for Pious.
Hey, I Loved the Guide very indepth and informative! Just a little bit of Feedback, maybe Pin this comment and/or add the links to the description . The comment might get lost over time. 😊
@robinschmang1538 I appreciate it! RU-vid wouldn't let me do either of them until recently as they're locked features for new channels sadly. I will now!
That's a very kind thing of you to say. :) Unfortunately, what I have in an abundance of politeness, Tanner has in an abundance of experience and game knowledge. I appreciate the compliment nonetheless. Always something to learn in this game.
Oh this great. Would love to see more meta breakdowns of 'popular' choices and why they're sub optimal. Lot of fun in this game to me is making the most efficient numbers happen so when I see someone willing to put work in and show why a particular talent/blessing/perk is worth (or not worth it) is a joy to see.
First game with this build in auric quickplay no joke gave me the worst spawn I've ever had. My entire team was either dead when I spawned or there was one guy living who died almost immediately after I loaded in. Starting point was a tiny corner in the basement at the beginning of Warren 6-19 with about 13% of my health, mixed horde body masses, and a chaos spawn already on top of me making it almost impossible to get out of the corner even with stealth. To make a long story short, I ended up clutching and we won the game, so I think your channel deserves a sub lol
I know who your talking about and i felt this was done respectfully. I really liked the rationale behind these choices, it really helped me understand them better. Really looking forward to more build guides.
I like to use the double barrel with the dueling sword build, works pretty well when you need to 1shot disablers or flamers that are inside a bunch of horde enemies, can also take out massive groups of bunched up enemies if you need. Double barrel procs the pretty mediocre emperors bullet talent almost instantly, just fire both barrels and bam attack speed and impact buff which you can stack with Fury of the faithful for a hilarious horde and elite mulcher, spamming so many attacks, getting crazy amounts of headshots. For double barrel perks/blessings I use, Maniac, Flak, Man-Stopper and Flechette. All stats 80% except mobility which is at 60%.
hey! i'm a returning player and am glad to see that I came to many of the same conclusions. especially on pious cut-throat i love that talent, although i like to use chorus. i would never use a toothpick weapon though, ill stick to my 2 handers.
Hey, can you make an optimized Eviscerator Zealot build? It's the most fun and satisfying melee weapon for me. I use the revolver to me deal with specialists since I'm bad with throwing knives but I noticed my build struggles more on auric difficulties. Especially when compared to a duelist sword and infantry mrk5 (and as you say that isn't even optimal) Tanner says the Eviscerator is pretty good and you have a maxed one in your inventory so I figure it is quite good, so i imagine im just doing something wrong build wise.
@Awuga I likely won't make another Zealot video for a while. It's my least played class and I have the least knowledge about it. That said, you can add me on Discord at torinator69. I'll be happy to explain to you my base build and what you can do to improve. Mine is also a Eviscerator/Revolver build.
great info thank you! I remember watching the video that you talk about in this video and how it goes against a lot of what I saw in Tanner's video and thinking this seems wrong. Funnily enough he shows this exact build that you do, it works super well. Sword is downright broken. I wonder when it will be nerfed.
@gabormolnar5937 I'm glad it was useful! Yeah - Nothing new and original, this has been Zealot's premiere build for a very long time now and yet many people aren't aware of it's place in the meta. It does require some skilled play and time invested to get the most out of it but what a skill ceiling. Thanks for watching!
Something that I don't see mentioned anywhere is Scourge is not a free 30% crit for all weapons with 100% uptime. If the hit that would grant you a stack kills the target, it instead does not apply. It's amazing on knife because you always take at least three attacks to kill anything, but duelling sword kills so fast you don't really get the chance on many enemies. It's still great on bosses though, so it beats the other node.
Great first video, really good breakdown of everything. Also kept the video respectful towards the other creator which with a community as small as darktide is great. Would you consider doing a Surge or Trauma staff video in the future on what you’d consider an optimal set up & build for either?
Sure thing! I'm fairly competent with Trauma. You can also look up Tanner's Trauma staff guide on RU-vid if you're looking for a quick, but insightful representation of the current meta with it. I intended to do a video breaking it down in more depth for those who lack the knowledge of why the build is good. I have really limited experience with Surge due to Trauma/Voidstrikes/Gun Psykers dominance in the meta prior to this patch but perhaps it would be a good time to look into it. Thanks for watching!
@@Torinatorr I did see tanners video on the trauma and gun psyker set ups! Curious if there is any tech or breakpoint that was missing or not covered in relation to the trauma set up. Surge post patch with the new peril gen node feels much better than it did pre-patch. Still not top tier but I spend more time doing damage than quelling now.
There were some things I tilted my head at, cleared up by the clarifying comment, but I did notice, even before you said it, that I do need to change the Carapace armor perk. Still learning how to calculate breakpoints, a little annoying there isn't an updated calculator or clear indication where diminishing returns apply or how certain stats impact damage to enemies. Just another road sign to figuring out how to make builds. I'm also pretty sure I know who made the OG build your "fixing" and yeah the other big road sign, Mr. Unc, kinda made me question some aspects of it.
It's a never-ending process! I don't believe anyone has all of the answers and what is "best" in any situation is incredibly nuanced. I think, primarily, we need to have a central resource of little known information which people form good build sense off - A lot of things I know today are only from playing with better players and word of mouth. I'm hoping I can do that with this channel and some time. Thanks for watching!
Interesting, I am going to give this build a try, but there's no way I'm going to stick to the flamer, unless I'm with friends. I prefer not to have to rely on others in games like these, there's always gonna be a sniper, trapper, bomber that your team ignored, did not see, etc. so I much reather prefer to have the tools to deal with everythyng myself, without expecting others to do it. It's simply easier to pull out the hand canon anti-material sniper rifle revolver, and just one click delete a target across the map, ofc this is just me and what I prefer:)
@antoniogivaldri5184 Nothing wrong with that! If you're good enough with throwing knives you don't need to rely on anyone - It certainly isn't easy though and I think that the main focus for Zealot will always be your primary. Use whatever works for you! Everything else in this builds functions just fine with a different secondary.
Great video but I've got to correct you on thing regarding the dueling sword. You very much can double up and get two attacks from one shroudfield use. Charge your attack and just as you let go activate shroudfield. You'll get the shroud attack but still have shroud up to go for another one :). Other than that I'm sure the combat blade is technically better on paper but I much prefer the dueling sword because I really enjoy the extra reach and better ability to deal with hoards when needed. Generally it just "feels" better to use (for me). Great video though, super informative and I've switched up my shroud build a little to take some of your advice :>
@schrodinger6261 Thank you for the info! I couldn't reliably do it myself in testing but that doesn't mean it isn't possible - I'm sure with some practice I could get more reliable with it. I agree with you too. I'm not a high enough skill player where CB outpaces Maccabian for this type of build. It's also just so fun. Can't go wrong. Thanks for watching!
Haha! I make it clear you can utilize Until Death if you like, nothing wrong with a little back-up help. I think pulling a point from Redoubled Zeal for this is overall good.
Dont take anybody's word for it. Combine uncanny strike with thrust. It is the bread and butter of dueling sword. BTW video is very well put together. I would like to see more of this content.
So i actually have no idea who youre adressing or what build youre addressing, but ive been experimenting on my own on zealot without doing any in depth research and your vid managed to answer a bunch of smaller but nonetheless important questions like if combat ability regen was multiplicative with the two regen talents, so tyvm for that. Excellent vid overall, very informative, keep it up!
Thanks! It's not my intention to bring any negative attention to the creator, I just have noticed a really active trend in DT content creation over the last year that's gotten worse and worse of people titling things like "best zealot build" etc and providing clear misinformation. This happened to be a particularly bad one so. Glad you got some use out of it!
@@Torinatorr honestly i just appreciate the clear and concise information you provide. well delivered, a plethora of substantiated claims and even providing your own personal take on an optimized version of the build, i really like what youre doin here. idk what your schedule is like but if you keep delivering ill keep watching!
@@RasrunV That's great to hear. If I'm honest, I have had a few video ideas since but wasn't sure if this kind of content was what the community wanted - But hearing even one person wants more of it is great. I'm gonna try to get an upload out this weekend. Let me know if there is a specific class or build you're interested in.
Hi I believe you have to unequip then eqiup your weapon after changing its traits while in training area to take effect, like when you swapped flak dmg @ 3:31
Hi that's true! I did make that mistake twice - It doesn't change what I said over-all and still does apply, although some of the values in the video are skewed. I will make sure to take more care in this in the future, I realized it following my last two footage periods.
Would love to see you do a video on weapon dump stats, blessings and perk choices, I had Carapace on the dueling sword the entire time thinking it did something. And I noticed you dumped Cleave Damage on the Mk4, maybe that's better than dumping Damage? Anyway nice video cheers.
@rymd1875 For this type of build both are fine honestly. I think you have so much horde clear with flamer it's worth giving up the cleave damage entirely and just focusing on more headshot thoroughput. Thanks for watching!
"Theres no way to double up on the backstab with the dueling sword where as you can with the knife" Is there a reason thrust wouldnt work here? Your invisible, you have the time to charge it.
@Bigotsandwich1995 Sure, but you're going to one shot whatever you're attacking regardless of thrust if you get backstab or finesse damage. Most of the time I'm using CB double-ups for more than one target. It doesn't do anything for you. I suppose, for a monstrous specialist run. I'd just run CB at that point personally.
@@Torinatorr well I'm not trying to sound like an ass here but if your just one tapping either way why did you mention not being able to double up the shroud dmg as a downside for the sword? I assumed you were talking about the backstab blessing for the knife
@Bigotsandwich1995 Because, from my knowledge at the time, double tapping wasn't reliable. It isn't just the damage, it's getting the damage out and then maintaining stealth. Someone else made it apparent to me though that this is replicatable with some practice - So that point is mostly moot. Still, I think CB is better due to its mobility advantage and Mercy Killer is a more reliable damage buff than Precog.
Upon re-reading your comment I think you may not be aware - I am not referencing the backstab blessing, I'm referencing the fact that you can get two hits off with shroudfield and CB reliably. If you stealth on downward swing you get two improved attacks and maintain stealth till the second one.
In my personal opinion, using Thrust on zealot (outside of hammer) is foul and I never heard of anyone use it until now. Zealot likes to go fast, the more you can attack, and the quicker you do, the better. Yes, crit + power multiplier is good, but as shown in the video the difference in time to kill is negligible. Refreshing to see an informative, educated and respectful video coming from the high end community, I've seen creators talking about high end builds and concepts for Darktide and they sound like an annoying autistic teenager going through puberty, no offense to autistic people.
It's okay, as someone who is incredibly autistic, I can only say that those people come off that way as they're incredibly passionate about these games. It's when people aren't willing to dialogue and are too confident in their ideas that it becomes a issue imo. There is always room to learn, regardless of how much you play this game. It's too nuanced and information is too spread/undocumented.
Can you do a break point / optimal guide for the bolt gun and eviscerator? I use a similar talent tree set up as the one in this video, and I use perfect strike and shred + 10% elite damage and 5% crit chance on my eviscerator. Additionally, on my bolt gun I run 10% reload speed and 25% unyielding with puncture and pinning fire.
Hey! My game knowledge is rather limited on both of these weapons but I was intending to get there as part of this process. From my limited play (sub 50 games) and a few different builds, your set-up is consistent with what I would typically run. Thanks for watching!
@@Jrawly I think it's just a matter of finding a good ground between what you can play meaningfully at your skill level with minimal overhead and what your goals are. So long as you're effective, that's all that matters.
Where do you get all of your information from? With all of the builds you can find on here and games lantern how are you supposed to know whether or not you’re being fed misinformation? Great video btw man, I hope you and your channel do well!!
@zb3_galaxy104 The best resource will always be other, better players than yourself and actively testing in psykanium. You will get things wrong now and again. I do. I'm going to try my best to make this channel a center for factual information. Lots of things ARE NOT written down somewhere which makes it difficult. Don't use general builds on Gamelantern. They're mostly poor, and a lot of the time the best ones are not popular.
im curious what you meant when you said you cant double up on shroudfield with the duelling sword - if you mean attacking twice while in shroudfield then you can do that by charging your attack before entering it
@@asdfjkl361 Yup! Someone corrected me on this - I just wasn't able to replicate it as simply as with CB so I thought it was unreliable but it seems like it's a me issue!
@AmViR1 I guess it depends what you mean by best! I think it's very good, I don't know about best. I likely won't make a thunder hammer video for sometime as I don't personally like it and I am not making content for engagements sake - Streamdray has a very good build if I remember correctly though!
You get 90% toughness damage reduction with the meta pathing for Zealot just by playing within melee effectively. It's really overkill and kinda disrupts the point for running blazing piety which is a consistent way to have 100% uptime on 25% additional crit regardless of skill level or active play. Typically, builds that do run blazing piety don't run stalwart as right side better compliments Zealot overall as well. :)
@andyozFace Primary should only be for stagger. It's very effective though and will buy you time to get up to targets. Knife cancelling wield is useful. Knife cancelling reload is not worth imo. You will learn when to use your secondary and when you need to feather a mixed horde and hold down for blaze away. Good flamer usage often comes down to pre-planning for upcoming hordes.
good content , can u do something like this on other class like the meta build after lock and load update cuz other youtuber out there it like HERE THE BEST BUILDE IN THE GAME and take sniper resist as curio.
@@Torinatorr psyker build would be nice cuz i still use the old trama and gun before lock and load and if u can do curio and build for ogryn it would be nice cuz everyone tell me to take gunner sniper resist and i hate it,it like a no try hard player play ogryn and it left with bad build that bad player play it,btw luv you content wish we have more good content like this.
@dylanbrady5926 Plenty of console players make very good use of the sword! You should just play with it and see if reliably hitting heads is possible for you. In my experience, I've seen console players be quite good with things like Devil Claw, Heavy Eviscerator, or TH in it's new state. That said, if you're completing your missions, play what you're enjoying!
@x1257x I'm gonna try. I'm a bit limited unlike DT content creators on that most of my game knowledge is ONLY in optimal build pathing and high-level meta. I figure this will be a good opportunity to try other types of builds.
@@randomguyblank1616 I suggest looking up Tanner's Zealot Talent Tree video. He explains in depth why Martyrdom isn't good overall - In relation to this build, it's simply overkill on most anything and is outpaced by either of the other two available keystones.
@@Torinatorr oh I saw that video already, I just thought there was a specific reason for the dueling sword, not just the general "Martrydom is a poor keystone" reason. Still gonna run it cause it gets my blood pumping.
@@randomguyblank1616 Nothing wrong with that! I mean, it's particularly inefficient due to how the weapon works, but overall it's just not a optimal pick. If you have fun with it and your games are going well all that matters!
and you're using the build/loadout you're criticizing in a controlled setting. use it in a real mission. all my builds see real use. every day. as far as the flamethrower blessings? also good for the inferno staff on the psyker.. also. talents and weapons loadouts and perk choices are very personal and depends on personal playstyle
@howlers8 that's very true! There still is objectively good things - Whether or not it's in real play or Psykanium doesn't really make a difference for certain things. If I one shot a maniac with or without the 25%, environment is irrelevant. I agree though. Whatever works for you is always what's best.
Weapon badly needs a nerf, I play almost exclusively auric maelstrom and 90% of players are running this sword. Needs a big drop of crits vs carapace, infested and unyielding. It's getting really boring. Every game is just vet or zealot with duelling sword. Rare fatshark L making this available for other classes.
It's an unfortunate situation. I have been using this weapon as my Psyker primary exclusively for over 500 hours. I love it. I'm glad other classes are able to utilize it now, but it does come at the cost of being unbalanced on better classes with melee. I think with how long combat blade and plasma gun have remained dominant, I'm hoping they ignore the issue as usual to a degree. I know they won't revert giving it to everyone and I would hate to lose it as a good CB alternative. I already use it on all my other characters. I guess at the end of the day, we can only hope everything else is brought up to the same power level as these weapons and we get some additional difficulty modifiers. Feels terrible scaling down. Thanks for watching!
