They cut so much from the books but they made a movie that maintained the pure spirit of it. Pure smart assery and intellect got him through it.

I think they did a good job going from book to movie although i wish they had left that one part in about her potentially having to eat everyone else if they don't get the supplies. changed the entire tone of the book for me.

The thing that always gets me with this movie is that why did they send the MAV ahead of the arrival of future missions? Surely that MAV is at risk of the very same issue that caused their evacuation at the start of the movie. Still a very enjoyable movie.
@procta2343
@procta2343 13 дней назад
id have put that down to where it is located, the rocket could be a lot deeper down in the crater, giving it more protection from such storms. Also where HAB was, it looked like it was much more open and on higher ground.
@kukuc96
@kukuc96 6 дней назад
Sending it ahead makes sense IRL, especially if you are making the fuel for it on site, like real Mars mission proposals plan to. The storm at the start of the film was the completely unrealistic thing. In the super thin Martian atmosphere, the storms can get to high speed, but the low density atmosphere means it barely exerts force on things. You could stand in the middle of a sandstorm, and it wouldn't push you more than a light breeze on Earth. The abrasion might be somewhat of a problem, but it pushing a rocket over, or launching an antenna with enough force to knock someone over isn't a realistic problem.

@@ekalorschmekalor2885 We do have access to pretty accurate meteorological data on Earth. It has never happened to you to get a tornado warning, an order to evacuate to flee a hurricane, a heat wave forecast, and those events actually happening? And, above Mars, there are several satellites. Not as many as on Earth, but enough to watch the development of a big storm.

Mars less encroaching add more trees and green 💚 add more trees atmosphere added
@879PC
@879PC 6 дней назад
That's not how it works. Mars has very little atmosphere because it doesn't have a magnetic field strong enough to prevent solar wind and radiation from literally blowing the atmosphere away. Even if you planted trees, the oxygen they'd produce would get blown away. That aside, you can't have an all oxygen atmosphere anyway, you would need nitrogen fixing compounds produced by living bacteria and fungi to make it habitable for larger species.
