Ethan heard the stories... NC Miata coolant expansion tanks can fail and ultimately destroy the engine if you're not careful! He replaces his with the DaveFab option, and peace of mind came as a result.

I suggest you go back to using spring clamps as they maintain constant pressure; as the hoses heat/cool they keep tension. Screw style clamps will loosen from heat/cool and the vibration of the car. That’s why OEM uses spring. You’re risking a line backing off and leaking.

Why is this unit preferred at $300 over a very similar one made by alloyworks available for $150? The angle of the overflow by the cap, and the ribbing on the tubes appear to be the only differences?

My tank is yellow so ended up go to Mazda main dealer who charged me £120 for a new one I should have gone dave fab lol nice litte video

I might be wrong but werent the cracking coolant tanks a pre facelift issue? Like up to 2009 model years? Never heard of any problems on the NC2.

To my knowledge, all models are susceptible as the parts are interchangeable. But I also had an NC1 with 250,000 miles before, on its factory expansion tank. So it's not necessarily a guaranteed thing. But enough people suggest replacing that we thought...might as well!

Nah here I am with 2015 nc and I need to change it out I guess the problem never got addressed

@@mangosnack FWIW, I'm changing the factory tank on my 2008 nc1. Only 40k, but it's 16 years old. No problems, but there are enough reports of problems that I don't want to just hope it doesn't eventually fail. I'm draining and refilling anyway so it's cheap insurance against a potentially much bigger problem. BTW, I'm just using a new OEM tank because I don't like having only a small awkwardly placed site window to see the level.

What milage do you suggest charge the coolant tank? Also why chose aluminum?

Aluminum tends to be stronger (if built well) than the OEM plastic one. So a lot of people go that route in the aftermarket options. Not sure there's specific mileage, but many people say if it looks yellow or remotely questionable, replace it! Which could be due to age or mileage or both.

Some people just prefer the more finished look vs plastic. I like the plastic tank because it's much easier to see the level, and some people have had leaks with fabricated metal tanks. My OEM tank was 16 years old and was only replaced as a precaution.
