I’m happy to answer questions, but I will make it clear that it’s extremely hard to make guesses as to what may be wrong with your specific truck over the Internet, and any responses I give are not to be taken as hard fact, but simply guesses unless stated otherwise. I started with a truck that was in good condition and this repair fixed a common problem due to age and heat cycling, and the harness is in known good and original condition, and the truck had no known faults. If this repair does not fix your problem, check fuses for your gauges (consult a manual for specifics), check your harness for damage, check to see it is fully plugged in, check your door switches, and finally, you may need to replace your cluster if it is beyond basic repair. Unfortunately vehicles are harsh places for electronics and these are not well designed for the environment some people can put trucks though.
Worked for me. Of course I found this video after I replaced 2 stepper motors and a few of the bulbs..pulled it all back apart and did this while I was still feeling motivated. Worked like a charm. Thank you!
THANX for the video and straight forward instructions: I bought my '04 AVY used, 2 years back, I always wondered: Why didn't "Prindl" work / display?, I figured bulbs, I worked around the issue, but when I loaned her out it caused confusion.. I was thinking... maybe it is time to spend $100 and send the speedo out for repair.. Then I stumbled on your video.. 1/2 hour out of my life and the display now works like new. Just how bad were those solder joints? about 1/3rd of the resistors, when I touched the iron to one joint the whole resistor moved, telling me the other end was no longer attached.
I have been trying to find this for ages and hopefully you know the answer. I was having the dim prnd321 display so i checked those resistors and had one missing. do you know where i can get replacement 511 resistors? i tried getting others that said 511 on them but they are like 1/2 the size so i worry they aren't rated for the same voltage.
Hello there. This ply to Chevy Trailblazer Lt SUV with the gauges why I ask some of the gauges STOP working. Could you take gauges repair it back working again. I'm calling from Houston TX
I have this issue, going to have a friend with experience repair it but wanted to get a replacement PRNDL screen just in case, but cant seem to find one anywhere online. Any reccomendations? Also i HATE the high beam light that the 03-06 trucks have. Is there anyway to disable this while the cluster is appart?
Hey I have a question. I see people selling clusters and they are able to change the color of the PRND and Odometer display. Would you know how one could do that?
nice video... i'm experiencing same issue, but the whole cluster goes out.... pulled it off, checked solder joints, and they actually looked pretty good. but when i plugged it in (prior to dash reinstall) it came on, so great, right!.... but nooooo when i got it all back together it is dead again. i used to be able to gently smack it with my hand and everything would work, but now, nothing. could it be a short in the plug harness?
If soldier joints look fine and some percussive maintenance solved it in the past, but suddenly has failed to resolve your issue, I'd agree with your assumption to take a look at the harness. I'd also check fuses for the gauge cluster. I'd also check to see if the connector was simply loose when you put it back together - I'm sure you found out, but it can be a righteous pain to get plugged in with the amount of harness you have to play with and the space available.
I know that this comments year old so I don't know if you're still dealing with the problem but mine used to do the same thing with the battery light on all the time and then I realized that when it was in park the gear shifter wasn't going completely forward and so the key wasn't turning all the way to the off position try that and tell me if that works if you haven't figured out the problem yet
my cluster is draining the battery. the information center is lite up solid off n on when the truck is off and key is out. I've had to a "cluster repair guy" local but he couldn't fix it. he made it worse. any ideas what it could be?
I’ll be honest, it might be beyond repair if a fix attempt made it worse. The cluster will always have power when it’s working properly, but is in a standby mode and turns the displays off. The board may have a severe fault somewhere and failure was accelerated when it was taken apart. It could also be something else in the truck telling the cluster to turn on.
Don’t quote me, but it’s either all or nothing. If the display is the only thing dead, then there’s not a fuse to check. If the entire cluster is dead, then the fuse may have blown.
