Welcome to episode 5 of the D21 series! On this episode I tweak the suspension to give my new wheels enough clearance. I also install new shocks and a set of used fender extensions from a pathfinder. Don't forget to leave a like if you enjoyed, it helps me out a lot :)

Brother, I've got a '96 hardboy running on a TD27 inherited from ma old man on which I am doing an full upgrade so I can pass it later to my lil one😁🤣 New cab, new wheels, under carriage works and so forth. Please can I have an email of yours so I can get in touch and you could give me a few pointers on how it would be wise to go on with it

Awesome! Looks more off road ready with all the mods that you did. What type of paint did you use for the leaf springs and shackles?
@tunethetoy7225
@tunethetoy7225 3 года назад
Believe it or not that was how I got them off the junkyard, must be factory maybe?
@BLKSTONE4WD

@@tunethetoy7225 interesting, in the video they looked non painted. I was curious if you had resprayed the parts to touch them up or protect them from corrosion. I ask also because when I replaced my leaf springs I got them new instead of used, and now they are starting to rust in some spots. I think I will go the same route as you and pick up some leafs from another 4wd Hardbody or something similar, to do my own add a leaf spring kit. But when I do I will respray them all in order to preserve my big investment. When I first got my D21 the rear leafs on the passenger side snapped on me on the road.

@@BLKSTONE4WD It seems that a few rattle cans would be a good investment for ya! I am unfortunate enough to live in drought valley so rust is never a concern, however my driver's side leafs are a bit squeaky even though the teflon plates looked fine. Looking forward to your next upload!
@BLKSTONE4WD
@BLKSTONE4WD 3 года назад
@@tunethetoy7225 yeah definitely will have to rattle can em'! My rust issues have gotten a little worse through out the truck since where we live there is a little more moisture in the air. Thanks a lot bro I will deliver as promised on my YT page. When I upload the update video I will explain why I haven't uploaded and where the direction of the channel is going. I'll give you a small inside I just got my tags & registration finally from the DMV yesterday! So expect an upload sooner, I think you will like the video I have in store for all D21 & Pathfinder owners Let's just say it's a K&N upgrade (not a air filter)

@@tunethetoy7225 maybe a little bit of hi temp grease on those teflon plates might do the trick! Just a small thought.👍🏼

How many miles on the new shocks? How do they feel. I'm replacing the shocks on my friends 97 hardbody. They ones on there look like factory.

I’ve driven on them about 3k miles, the truck has really still suspension now but the shocks do make the ride smoother

Spoiler alert... you didn't have to hack up those fender flares. The right thing to do would be to remove, re-index, and THEN crank up your front torsion bars to raise the front end. I gained 3 inches up front and paired it with slightly longer Rancho shocks... Sway Away torsion bars are a nice upgrade as well. Better spring rate. I'd have swapped on 4x4 fenders if you were going for a 4x4 look and left the flares alone (they'll clear). The beds are exactly the same on the 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive, so the only difference is the front Fenders... So you should have just gotten rear flares from a 4x4 pickup truck...

@tunethetoy7225 2 года назад
Okay, various points here, bare with me: 1. I did crank up the torsion bars, which I eventually reeled back a little since the ride was too stiff. Re-indexing is something I will look at 2. I found those fender flares for cheap at the local junk yard, they were in a Pathfinder hence the extra material on the ends. 3. The front flares were a bit problematic but I was on a budget and just wanted the truck to look more muscular. I dig your train of thought thought

Neither, I had to add a leaf spring and tighten the torsion bars myself. Hard to find a good lift kit for 2wd D21s sadly :(

Do you remember the exact leaf springs you purchased? I'm looking for 1" lifted leaf springs for a 97 2wd but like you said they are difficult to find.
