BEST thing you ever did, will save you a LOT of grief ! Had mine done 5 years ago and never been happier. O.M.E. coil conversion from Atlantic British is awesome, ride quality is excellent . Your Rover looks great by the way! :) Greetings from Canada.
Haha triumph!!! I got the right rear spring in on my coil conversion, bad news I'm giving up for now on the left rear, the nuts are too rusty and stuck, so I've added a schrader valve and some airline to it and I'm going to have a hybrid air and coil rear!!!!! I've just got to put wheels back on and stuff and my little air compressor will be putting in 60lbs or so, I'm excited to see what happens....it may get me around for now, or who knows it might work fine. I had set up the airline to do both but the back nut on the right rear finally gave it up so I got that coil in this morning, I was going to have coil front and air bypass set up on the rear two, thanks to Far Reach Engineering channel for a great video on Air Suspension Manual Override
How's that wind faring working out for you? I have it in my cart right now. Just trying to figure out if it's worth it. It's a bummer you removed the air suspension. The air suspension is actually pretty simple to diagnose and pretty reliable once you sort out the maintenance neglect from the previous owners but I understand your reasoning. The truck is looking good man!
Honestly the wind fairing is just alright. It's not gonna reduce the noise down to zero but it definitely helps a bit. If you're a diy kinda person I'd say try to make your own before spending the money on the front runner one. Its just a slanted piece of aluminum. If you want the consistent frontrunner look then go for it. It's nice quality and fits well.
Your LR3 is looking good! What size tires are you running? It may only rub on those frame horns rear of the front wheels.... they can be trimmed back easily enough. Curious to see if it settles evenly front to rear, my 05 LR3 has the AB coil over, not the old man emu, but the standard coils... and it sits way too low in the back now. Thinking of swapping the coils for the ones you have. I stuck with the air suspension +2.5” Proud Rhino lift on my 08 and happy I did. Twice on trails now I’ve lowered it to clear overhead tree obstacles that I would of had to cut or re route had it not been for the air suspension capability to lower it. But yes theres a lot to be said for worry free suspension over the air suspension. Keep it up! Doing great man!
I did the same with my 06 lr3..kits was from AB..my question is, after everything was installed..now i have warning light, abs light and brakes lights all lit up
You should only have the red suspension light on and once the unit is hardwired, no lights. Maybe you knocked a wheel speed or brake sensor loose in the process.
I'm thinking of buying the coil overs from another supplier which allows you to adjust the height on the coilover. I was just concerned that they don't come with a module like Atlantic british. Can a land rover specialist clear the faults using their own equipmemt
I'd send Atlantic British an email as well as whoever you're getting the new suspension from. They may be able to figure something out for you or send you a similar module.
for a while I was having hard time with my air struts' although i had 2" spacer on top of each I still needed to replaces front struts' every year. I received yesterday the heavy duty air to coil suspension conversion kit and I was wondering if I should put the 2" spacers on top to gain more height? I do go off road often. Also, how hard was it to install the module?
I did that already and still got codes and problems with the system, air compressor still working freely, how you clear or disable the computer to not read suspension fault? And what is that madule do ?
The air suspension is what makes the Land Rover a Land Rover. I have a 2008 SE V8 with 85K miles, I like to do preventive maintenance I fix before it breaks I changed the rear bags, all the air blocks and the compressor and it drives like a dream and now eventually going to change the front bags. They are great trucks but I know a pain in the backside when they break down. Anyway good-looking truck and have fun.
Thanks! Mine has 190k miles now so at this point I just want mega reliability and to not worry about fixing small stuff. I love the air suspension on the rovers. Coils just made sense at this point however.
Honestly Its been great so far. The suspension I removed was the original stuff with 183k miles plus on it. No complaints from me so far but it hasn't been all that long yet. Time will tell
How are you finding this set up after 6 months or so? I fitting the identical product about 14 months ago now. It was great for about 12 months, but I felt the ride slowly soften and now I’m essentially riding on the springs with failed shock absorbers. AB claim they haven’t seen a failure like this before and the fact I live abroad means they’re not really prepared to assist. Just trying to see what other people’s experiences are.
@@ty_zib would be great to make an update video. I guess lot of people like me are waiting for the feedback. I have a 2013 lR4 and I'm thinking to switch to coils
They will become effectively useless since the air suspension will be removed. Keep them for a future build or sell them. Also important to note that most of the coil conversion kits are only a 2" lift and not 2.5" so tires may rub a little once converted.
I never drove mine without using the module to switch the vehicle into "coil mode" first. Only thing I can think of is that it might ding for low suspension or limit speed due to low suspension. Maybe send Atlantic British an email or call them.
I plugged it into the obdII port and switched the vehicle over to coil mode but I haven't hard wired in the module yet. Once Its hard wired the red suspension light will go away
That would probably depend on what area you live in and what kind of shop you go to. I know that doesn't help but you'll see tons of different answers all over LR forums. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a couple thousand for labor.
I use a floor jack and several jack stands. You might have to use some wood blocks on top of the jack to get the vehicle up high enough to remove the wheels
Firstly, your car, your money and you choices. IMO, swapping to coils just makes it like any other off-roader. Limited articulation without the cross link air system. Too much lift and you put long term strain on CV joints where you only get get that strain for short periods of time when in extended height mode. Surely you’re just better off making sure the desiccant canister is refreshed as this seems to be one of the main causes of air suspension failure.
Hey Ty, I had no problem getting the air struts out. And putting the AB coils in. But I can’t for the life of me get the lower control arm low enough to align with the strut? It’s an inch an a half longer, even with a friend and a pry bar I couldn’t get enough movement in the arm. How did you do this?
I think I had to unbolt the control arm to get it to fit. It's been a while so I'm trying to remember what I did. Hopefully someone in the comments can help!
h4 going on air suspension ... most mods on any awesome cars have air suspension ... you get it standard and change it ... fml most ppl don't apriciate what they have.........
@@ptescreen18 260 000,05 V8 HSE,2014 SCV6 ,100 000 not a single suspension issue airbags and compressor cheap as chips and easy fitting if required, not to mention the superior ride quality handling, and lift by a switch. GENIUS.
Removing the air suspension from a LR3 is like removing your hands because you don't fancy wearing gloves anymore. Quite possibly the worst thing you can do to this car!
@@TravisFisher the whole point of the air suspension is being able to take it off road.... look at the off road setting then extended setting then super extended setting with off road. Gives an extra 8 inches of lift. Thats why you don't do a change to coils.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9If59U6AEDM.html
I'm currently getting my a$$ kicked with my air suspension. Placed new compressor, used my GAP tool to refresh and still problems. I want to bash head against an axe! Local shop couldn't figure anything out. Don't want to trailer it 100 miles to the stealership. Really wanting to do coil as I'm constantly afraid of this happening off road or far from home. I just don't want to lose the clearance abilities. Is it still capable of going to moderately technical places at that hight?
I've been loving the coil suspension so far. The fact that I won't be chasing down electrical or air leak issues is a major plus in my eyes. It also rides very comfortably. I've conquered some pretty intense terrain with my current setup with no issues. I had johnson rod 2.5" setup previous so the 2" is just a little lower. Also depends on your wheel/tire setup. If you've thought about it this much I'd say go for the coil setup. Spend more time adventuring and less time fixing dumb issues. 🤙
Exactly! Mine has a lot of miles so I knew that I'd keep having issues. It's my daily driver and adventure vehicle so I need it to always make it home. Pros and cons to everything
Are you actually mad? BL was destroyed by strikes and the Austin allegro. If you had the slightest clue about about this truck you would realise that air suspension is one of the many reasons its such a capable off roader.
Sounds like you didn’t keep up with your maintenance, and now you fitted coils to it, you’ve completely mucked her up. It’s such a shame when people do this to a Discovery or LR3
I've only had this vehicle for like 3 months and it has a lot of miles. I only got so much maintenance history when I bought it 🤷🏼♂️ I've fixed anything wrong since I've had it.
Mine is standard on coil and Ive never had too replace the compressor, valve blocks, bags or tank. unfortunately I’m a Landrover mechanic so had too change hundreds on customers vehicle
Gets to a point where long term future reliability and cost proofing is by far the smartest move. My 2010 D4 with 275k’s all up 2” lift conversion fitted cost only $2700 here in Australia c/w potential $6000 in parts eg 2nd air-compressor replacement, air-struts, ride sensors etc over the longer term. Btw my D4 has been immaculately maintained since new. Don’t hesitate.
@@jamesrebbechi4471 $6000 potentially.....hmmm must be buying the gold plated parts. Compressor is £250.....struts are £100...... remembering you are highly unlikely to have to change every component I'm amazed at your statement. Absolutely ruined this truck by changing it to coils. Lost 8 inches of lift and completely ruined its off road settings and capability.
Why did you do that?? You’ve just killed the car. Nobody around me (including me) have serious problem with air suspension at all. Still original airbags. 8 years ago fixed the air comp. and going on. It was a cheap fix. We do all the off roading btw. Come on man!
Truth is, people have more failures with air suspension compared to traditional coil suspension systems. The old defenders and disco 1's didn't have air suspension and they offroad just fine
If you stay on top of regular maintenance then very. Helps if you are able to do a lot of mechanic work on your own too. If you buy one, make sure it has good service history. 👍
With any cars keeping up with maintenance and repairs will make this a very reliable vehicle. My 2006 LR3 drives beautifully. I also work as a service advisor for Land Rover so these car are more reliable than some newer Land Rover
If the answer is “They’re great you just have to stay on up of it and throw money at it” than the answer is NO. M3 owners say the same thing and they have to do preemptive rod bearing and throttle actuator replacements.
woooo hooooo yeah buddy im proud of you. but now 40% of your land rover is gone......thats why land rovers are land rovers...i laugh at all you people that wants a quiet muscle car , are a small range rover . by now if you still got the truck ..right. you called yours self upgrade the head unit. but i bet you did the dumbest thing and replace the navigation station...didnt you ...i just know you did , when you was supposed to take out the cd player and replace it...i bet you go out with the fellas and call yourself a real beer drinker and you fuck with bush light
