Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.
Key Features:
MAKE IT HAPPEN
Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.
BUILD IT UP, BUTTERCUP
New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Unique Factories, such as Food, Toy, Furniture, Car and Electronics produce luxury products, and require a large number of workers, water and electricity as well as input from your industries.
SHIP IT
Manage traffic and logistics with industrial warehouses and the use of the new Cargo Services including a cargo airport.
GO POSTAL
Boost your citizens’ well-being with mail delivery and collection services. Post sorting facilities handle mail between outside connections and the post offices, and new Post Van and Truck vehicles enable the carriage.
WONK HARD
Three new Industry Policies and four City-wide Policies, including Workers’ Union, Sorting, Tolls, Wi-Fi, Logistics, Work Safety and Automation.

You know I have never seen you do exits and on ramps from the highway like in real life. Im new to the game and it works, but I would like to know if that is less efficient or not. Like the highway on the ground and a 2 way road over it perpendicular connecting with the 1 lane on each side of the highway. It looks neat too.

basic fixen for every city -let the highway flow. -when spliting roads dont add or supstract roads. 3 go to 3 -make a slip stream when a streat leaves the highway. -roundabounds everywhere, give priority on the roundabout. -no streatsignes. -dont make a million connection to the same road. every crossroad slows down traffic

Thanks for doing these. I'm just getting back into C:S, not that I was ever really into it. Too much freedom compared to my old grid-riffic SimCities! So currently I'm trying to fix traffic issues where there are none. But I am slowly getting tips and tricks from you. Such as bigger roads on the outsides, and smaller roads on the inside, industry gets direct routes to and from highway, and changing the highways to allow on and off slip roads. Thanks for what you do ;)
@SaraBearRawr0312
@SaraBearRawr0312 5 лет назад
Here in the states you do see quite often multi-lane divided highways having direct intersections when they come through cities and towns but our interstates only use on and off ramps. CS doesn't actually have two sets of highways to differentiate this and leaves it more to the player to just use good judgement in their city planning and transportation planning. I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of prefabbed divided highways introduced that are similar to our non at-grade interstates or the UK version the Motorway which can only accept exit ramps and interchanges for its connections.

I was thinking about a challenge for Biffa with ZERO roundabouts.
@DutchGabbers
@DutchGabbers 5 лет назад
The thing is that roundabouts are pretty much the only thing that works in the game.. Epecially on busier roads.. If he isn´t allowed to use roundabouts he is going to be patching problems up through traffic manager and some short cuts.. Not actually solving them.. Unless he tears down half the city and rebuild the infrastructure completely

@@DutchGabbers What about using one way streets around an island as a replacement for roundabouts? It's not a perfect replacement but could work, isn't it? D'oh! That's a roundabout with houses in it. Is "a group of houses surrounded by streets" called an island or isle in English?
@DutchGabbers
@DutchGabbers 5 лет назад
@@MarcCastellsBallesta Sure, but like I said.. He would need to adapt the entire infrastructure of the city to that one way street you would build around that Island.. Can't just slap it down and connect it to random streets, because that will undoubtedly cause a traffic congestion elsewhere.. Because all your doing is moving the traffic from one spot somewhere else.. The problem isn't necessarily that you cannot realistically solve it in different ways other then a roundabout... The problem is that the AI tends to mess up when you try and do it and as a result use the lanes and traffic lights highly inefficiently.. The point why roundabouts work that well is because the AI can very easily enter them and leave them if you set them up right.. And so the amount of cars able to go through is a lot higher then it would otherwise be if each car has to stop first and wait for their turn.. Building roundabouts is making it much easier for the AI to know what to do and when it can go..

Or is there another reason that you chose to use the decorative ones anyway?

To whoever made this city, I'd suggest that you use more pedestrian paths. Citizens would walk or cycle rather long distances if there are dedicated pedestrian paths.

Hey, Biffa, another tip for Roundabout Builder: with RB panel open you can choose a desired road from the regular road panel at the bottom instead of the drop-down menu, it’s very helpful especially if you have a ton of custom one-way roads from Workshop all with similar names that you’d want to use in roundabouts.

A bit of in-depth explanation for the guy who sent you this, on the off chance that he sees this comment: It looks to me like one of your biggest problems is the way you were trying to solve your traffic problems, namely by adding more roads, and occasionally adding bigger roads. In the case of the latter, your industrial sector looks like a disaster. You really don't need those huge six lane roads to handle the kind of load that's on them. I think 4 lane roads should be plenty for that area. In that area, it was really the layout of your roads that was the problem, not the size. When laying out an industrial sector like that, I would usually have one large road, 2-4 lanes, depending on the size of the district, going one way around the outside, and have smaller one-way roads, 2 lanes usually, going back and forth, alternating directions. When you're dealing with large volumes of traffic in an area with largely flat ground, one way grids are your friend. They might not be pretty, but they are incredibly efficient, which is why so many modern cities are built on grids of one-way streets. As for those highways, the reason for the complex highway interchanges with all of the ramps and merging is because on a highway, it is vitally important that everything keeps moving. Traffic stopping on the highway is a sign of a serious problem. One that traffic engineers and city planners get paid a lot of money and work very hard to avoid, which is why you so rarely see non-moving highway traffic in real life. Now, maybe you live in a city like LA or New York where this kind of traffic on the highways is a daily occurrence, but I can promise you, that is not normal for most places. Standstill traffic on the highway usually means construction or an accident forcing traffic to stop or bottleneck. To that end, the point of those interchanges is to make sure that no one ever has to turn left in order to leave the highway. Because if you have to turn left, then you have to stop for oncoming traffic. If you have to stop, then everyone behind you has to stop. And everyone behind them. And people just keep having to stop until there's a break in the traffic and you can go. And it happens on the other side too. So at every highway intersection, you have traffic backing up as people wait to turn left. In a situation where you need to link a highway lane to one that goes to the left, you should build a ramp so that drivers can exit one highway and cross over or under the oncoming traffic to get to the next highway. This way nobody has to stop for crossing traffic. This is also the case for those highways going through your city core. You should never have that. Either sink the highway and have the surface streets go over it, or elevate it and have the streets go under, and have a couple, meaning one or two, on and off ramps to provide access between the highway and the surface streets. Highways are limited access roads, meaning you can't just turn onto a highway from anywhere. You have to use purpose-built ramps at spots carefully chosen to maximize convenience and usefulness while keeping the number of cars entering and leaving a given stretch of highway more or less constant. At least, that's the idea. It doesn't always work out that way, but that's what they try to do. The purpose this serves is to ensure that the only people who get onto the highway are ones who need, or at least want, to use the highway as their most efficient route to reach their destination. If you're just going from one side of the highway to the other, then there's no need for your tires to ever actually touch the highway. You should be going over or under it. Additionally, keep in mind, highways do bad things to land value. While they might do a great job of moving people and goods in and our of your city, highways are noisy, smelly, ugly, and dangerous. Nobody wants to live near a highway, and running one right through the center of downtown will kill your city core very quickly. If you look at maps of real cities, you'll notice that many will have a highway loop running around them, encircling a grid of one-way streets in downtown. When they do have a highway running into downtown at surface level, in pretty much, if not every case the highway will turn into a surface road. Even then though, you don't want an interstate highway just vomiting cars onto your streets, so before that has happened, that highway has already gone through a few other areas, with plenty of exit ramps along the way to gradually disperse the traffic throughout your city, so that when that highway turns into a surface street, the only people left on it are the ones that need to be there to get where they're going. Roundabouts serve a similar purpose to highway interchanges. A roundabout allows for intersections between crossing streets where nobody has to cross traffic. Everyone pulls up to the roundabout, looks left to see if any cars are coming, then pulls right into traffic, and then just slips back out again, all without disrupting the flow of vehicles. No lights, no stop signs. Just remember that traffic already inside the circle ALWAYS gets right of way over traffic not yet in the circle. It is imperative that the circle keeps moving. Another thing to keep in mind is how the traffic in-game chooses its routes. Roads in the game are arranged in a hierarchy, with highways at the top and dirt roads at the bottom. Cars will always attempt to take the highest-rated road possible to reach their destination. If you have a highway and a surface road both going to the same place, the traffic will always try to take the highway unless the surface road is much shorter. The last bit of advice that I have is to not forget your other transit options going forward. Busses, trams, and subways all exist to move lots of people from one place to another while using fewer vehicles. A robust public transit system can take a lot of strain off of your roads. Remember to be wary of left turns though. It's easy to accidentally tell one of your bus lines to make a left in the wrong spot and then suddenly everyone has to stop to wait for the bus to turn. You can also encourage walking and biking by mixing your zones, putting jobs close to residences. Every person walking to work/school is one person that doesn't have to drive there. Plentiful bike lanes, crosswalks, and pedestrian paths and bridges will encourage people to walk. Dedicated pedestrian paths can mean a quick and easy shortcut for commuters, with the added bonus of not having to deal with traffic. That said, pedestrians in large numbers wreak havoc with roundabouts, forcing traffic to stop to wait for them, and remember: stopped traffic is bad. Keep those cars moving when possible. If you notice traffic getting held up by pedestrians, you can build pedestrian bridges and tunnels which will get them off the roads and allow them to cross without stopping traffic.

@@tracyjappert6223 It's a nightmare. The city has 100k Population and I like to make cities British-style where the roads are all squiggly and random, makes them seem more realistic to me. Everything is so compact and difficult to analyse. Argh. Maybe I should send it in to biffa 😂
@tracyjappert6223
@tracyjappert6223 5 лет назад
Will L I’ve been to Europe a number of times, but I was a kid and of course never noticed road and traffic layouts. That said, here in the states I’m used to knowing grids in bigger cities, so making cities with windy roads is actually very challenging. I live on a coastal mid sized city so there’s a bunch of roads that wind off the coast, but eventually hit a grid once the freeway runs through. Avenues still feed the populace to the freeway and the more grid like commercial and industrial areas, as well as out of the city east, north and south. The difference with real cities and the game is that you can delete damn near anything (roads I mean) in cities and rebuilding everything only cost 1.5 to 1 mil for hardly a loss. I’d say, don’t be afraid to replan and rebuild for your demands. Know what I’m sayin?

I like that this builder is obviously quite new but already had a great idea to have a major highway encircle the city. To me the hardest thing to do is plan ahead plan for expansion. All of a sudden you’re hundreds of hours in and have to bulldoze a big section or give up and start over.

I've noticed a lot of these fix it cities don't really mix residential, commercial, and office zoning. They'll have blocks of each separated from each other. If you mix them, less people will drive, will drive a lesser distance, and will not all be coming to and from the same areas.
