Yeah that’s the only this I would say I dislike about these vids. He has good advice but sometimes he completely disregards the original style of the portrait
i wish that when people fix others art, instead of turning it into their own style they keep the original one and just fix proportions, lighting, etc. when people just completely make it into a different work of art that just looks like a DTIYS it kind of doesnt feel like fixing.
Not every girl character has to have a short little fact and a little button nose. I personally thought the face shape on the first fix was fine, and you didn't have to upturn the nose like that. You could have made it look better without changing it from a long, small nose to a button nose
@Kaju Misa He has MAJOR same face syndrome when it comes to women. Don't get me wrong, his art is amazing in the technical aspects, but like... every woman looks the exact same.....
Like I can't say anything about the way he fixes art because I am no artist, but I feel that every time he fixes art he just takes away the style of the artist and just copy-paste one of his characters face on it. Like his art is amazing, and his rendering is top-tier, but he has a same face syndrome problem and also a “let's just make every art my art” problem. Instead of only fixing the issue the person had and keeping their style, he’s just making it their own style. But anyway this isn't trying to hate or be mean. I'm making the same mistake these artists are, so I can't really say s***.
He make them look like his because that’s the style he work with the best, and most of his advices are ones that can work with all art styles Like, I understand there being different art styles and all, mine is different than his after all, but most of his advices are accurate and help you understand the basics, like anatomy, rendering, sizes etc etc The reason he takes the style of the person away is because Sam is working in his style, for better art, because it’s the style he knows best. If he worked in every single art style he sees, the drawing will end up looking wonky and weird because it takes week to change your art style Beside, I don’t think the artists he correct mind, because they specifically used his hashtag to ask for help in their art, at least that’s my opinion on the matter or something
i understand what you say but.. Before having a "style" you should learn to draw decently at least XD I mean any drawing with lot of proportion all over the place and mistakes cannot by "the artist style" unless done on purpose. So i think you're both right in the end. I still have to see him fixing a "unique style" and making like his own tho, maybe i missed the video.
i would have never imagined how much seeing someone correcting drawings could actually help.... it helped me a lot MORE than the thousands speedpainting/tutorial videos i've seen the past few months, thank you !
@@DanaeLirael I’m sorry but that only means that your eyes aren’t as trained as his. Through more observations in both real life subjects and artworks, artists gradually build up a “photo collection” in their head which allows them to notice the subtle anatomical differences that less experienced or non-artists can’t catch🙏🥰It’s like when you look at your old art from 3 years ago that you thought was really good at the time and you suddenly find a whole bunch of mistakes that you never saw.
@@dandelionofluff-2791 that's not what they meant ( or at least that's what I believe ) we all know Sam is a PROFESSIONAL artist, but the difference here is that Sam changed the entire drawing to fit his art-style and preferences and not to actually improve it, I know professional art creators who fix art by improving it without changing the original style at all. There is a difference between fixing or improving a drawing AND redrawing or changing the entire thing in your own style, yk what I'm trying to say here?
Sadly I am a traditional artist and my only hope at fixing my art is sacrificeing a goat to the art gods in hopes that they will help me. It hasn't worked yet. Going to go grab another goat
Sam is just technically taking people's art and drawing them in his style. But I'm very much learning as we go. LEARNING FROM YOUR MISTAKES IS USEFUL!!
i love your content but changing a drawing to fit your own style isnt fixing, its more like overpainting. To make a video called "fixing your art" where you change the art to look more like your art implies to me that you think your artstyle is the right way to do art. You can fix a wonky face without completely removing the stylization in favor of your own yk?
11:17 omg the tip with the left eye is a true lifesaver! It’s so simple, but immediately as he added the eyelashes, I felt nothing but clarity! I feel I can conquer the world, THE ART WORLD AHA!
Dog, he’s applying established art techniques to the arts, of course it’s gonna be in his style, he’s the one applying them, but the main point still stands, it’s art fundamentals goober
@@rrroxlana people can have opinions bro, the og drawings looks way more interesting and unique, his drawings are the same, i see so many of the same style, ofc his rendering is amazing
Impressive as always. I kinda hope Sam could keep the origin style and not making it fully his style, especially the last one. I liked the simplicity and the less-anime-y style!
Every time Sam makes a video, it helps me look at my art and see what I want to change or what I can change to make it to my liking even more. He has really have changed my perspective on art from a year ago to now, I see a big change in my art and I am really satisfied with what I have right now. Thank you and Great job, Sam!❤️
honestly, the corrected pieces dont look like the original at all. this is basically saying that people should only draw like you and that only your artstyle is right. the before and after look like completely different drawings. they aren't "fixed" they're just redrawn tbh. some of those "fixes" are just unnecessary.
The ' before ' pieces had some serious anatomy issues , and those don't fly in the art community unless you're Picasso .( and plenty of people don't like Picasso because of reasons. )
If you don’t pay attention to what he is teaching you then you’re going to be ignorant. While he’s correcting the art, he is not shaming them stop acting like it’s a crime.
@@subratanandy2142 And, here is where I disagree with you. My guy is teaching his students by correcting their art. He’s not fixing it in a way where he calls them failures and berating them for it looking bad. I swear the people who take the time out of their day to comment instead of watch the full video, are not even artist and should never even consider them self “artist.” Your mindset is the only way that’ll impact you from growing as an artist never blame someone else.
@@taylormbpdespite not being intended to be in sams artstyle he still explains wht they can change in their style and rendering style as anatomy rules can apply everywhere one way or another even other art styles so i kinda agree
The tipp with the eyelashes on the 3rd fix (them wrapping down/around), might just have solved all my problems with drawing the second eye in perspective, thank you!!
you weren't kidding you yassified her i actually could not tell she was korean after the stylistic choices and the third chinese girl aaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhghghghh where did she go her eyes are so large and her hair is amazing but THEY'RE GONEEEEEEEEE. but fr my sister attended art school and yeah i can see how her art differs from the ones here, she really does have her fundamentals mastered and i prefer her art a lot because of the realism and even though it's not as stylistic and JUICY she makes up for it with the details and bold colours and--who am i kidding i just love her portraits of me LOL. she makes me a whiter asian than i really am. these vids are interesting with the tips about perspective but it's almost like you did a DTIYS with the before and after LOL
sam's videos oddly remind me of the khan academy videos... like theyre educational at the same time entertaining at the same time funny with the most monotone voice?? its not just me right 😭
0:09 I started drawing as a kid with the face, cause it always mattered the most to me and I have literally never envisioned this while drawing lips but now I NEED to xD
this is not to cancel what you're teaching. but the moment teachers "Fix" a mistake, (in order to teach others) the desoul a work of art. the mistakes of an artist show his developmental stage. and there is also a beauty in there, but also a fault. so what is beauty? is it the mistake and lack of talent, no. it is the initial spark that made that person want to draw. good teachers can talk about that, and not only about knowledge. that's a big lack i find in a big chunk of videos online that talk about how to improve and create good art, as an artist. its' not all about time, skill and knowledge. there is something that grows and present parallel to that. neither will suffice by itself, you need both.
i love how he just turned all of the drawings into his own artstyle and calls it “fixed” 😭 edit: i’m not hating on him. I just find it funny that he does that! his artstyle is beautiful btw. There is no need to hate on me. I’m just sharing my thoughts and didn’t mean to say anything mean about Sam. I’m a huge fan of him and love his art. Also i didn’t say anything mean about him ! Next time think before commenting.
Yeah, I agree. I'm watching the first one and when he changed the nose, he completely re-shaped it to the point that it didn't seem like the same person anymore. Then he started adding too many details and smudged the mouth and I went "but that's not who they drew!" Imo, he should've left the drawings with as minimal changes as possible, because that's what's truly helpful to other artists. If what he does is change the drawing until it looks like his own, it's no longer helpful, because it focuses on his style only.
@@mackiexoxo8193 exactly! he's kinda acting like his artstyle is the “only right way” to draw a good face. Which is not true because people can draw faces in lots of different artstyles, and it doesn’t necessarily have to make it bad
@@ruveydadx I think sam understands that. More people have to understand that you don't have to follow every advice you hear and do the exact same thing he does. Everything he said about the proportions, lighting, persoective and structure should be very helpful to beginners. The fact that he painted over with his style shouldn't take away from that.
I notice I make plenty of these mistakes because I am so used to just doing pencil drawings and no color, so this is actually a handful of help! Thank you
I'm an amateur artist and and Sam's is absolutely awesome, I'm always learning here so it's in no way a dis, but I kinda wish he kept the eye shape of the second and third drawing, he made them much more round than they were originally and I kinda dig the phoenix / leaf eye the og artists went for, or whatever that shape is called. I understand he goes for his own style too, just thought it'd be interesting if he tried to work with the shapes, even the downturned nose could be an interesting feature.
Istg you're one of the funniest ppl alive and you make my day so much better when I watch your videos and you're also teaching me a lot of stuffs in every video. Thank you so much :)
Just so everyone knows: these are technical art tips. But some art styles are different. Some have very pale faces and different noses. That’s perfectly fine. These art tips are just what many artists use. You don’t have to use them but if your art looks ‘wrong’ to you that may be why.
Fr, idk why so many ppl be acting like Sam’s tryna force his style onto the other ones, bro is just using commonly known techniques in the art community, obviously it’s gonna lean towards his style because he’s the one applying them
I would agree if the intention was for the character to have deformities in their proportions. Also, he fixed lighting, which no matter how a character is meant to be, the lighting rules won't change. If proportions truly didn't matter in art, it wouldn't be something people take the time to learn. Also, these people gave him permission to do this, so i don't see any point in commenting that other than starting an argument.
Dog, it ain’t that serious, they gave him permission to do this, if they wanted their character to have some crookedness, they would say so, careful getting down from that soapbox
I love how Sam said, ( 3:38 )"I'm just going to run from my responsibility" and then a few minutes into the video ( 5:39 ) "what do we do here? we don't run from our responsibilities".
sam this is not how you "fix" art, you just turn them into your own artstyle and call it "fixed". i suggest you watch jackie to see how you could do it
@@sevi630 although they may lack proper anatomy, they are stylised and actually have diversity. sam just turns them into clones and removes ethnic features
@@KirkDirk By making already anatomically too big eyes even bigger? And giving extreme anime chin to every character? He's just remaking everything in his style.
@@KirkDirkliterally look at the first character. Many people have the first nose..why’d he make it into a button nose?? He completely changed the facial structure☠️ do u rlly think that’s normal
icl, yes youre fixing the art to improve but please keep the general features the same. I just see the first one and you change an angular woman into a round generic cute girl. As a woman with an angular face its not a bad thing for girls to have sharp eyes and sharp noses so just keep in mind next time to keep such features because its just boring and hurts some people seeing these things be editted to be the usual upturned/button nose and round cute girlie face
the thing in these type of videos that I kinda dislike is how he just completely changes the features and style of the artwork to fit his completely, yes ik it's his personal preference but it kinda takes away the thing that made the og art unique like the 3rd one. like don't get me wrong, his style is really pretty but if you want actual advice and how to improve your art without completely changing it to look like another artist's art style you can look up Naoki Illust Channel (his videos are extremely helpful)
I love these videos about "fixing" (I know there're ppl who get offended by that term but I couldn't care less lol). I feel like you can learn so much more if you actually fix our art rather than just verbally "roasting".
about the first fix. i liked the original drawing much better. (the girl from the portrait had a much more original and interesting face.) im sorry. not trying to be rude to Sam. but i mean, you cannot just keep making the same girl drawing again and again. it's boring. every ig artist is doing the same portrait again and again. hope everyone notices.
Something I would like to say, Sam has an art style so most of his art will have a similar look to be more recognizable to people like you can tell the portrait was made from him! And also, many other artists like kooleen, purika etc. have a style that is very distinct leaning to them having a “same face syndrome“ thing going on, so in conclusion, it’s not just them, there’s a thing called an art style, sam and people have gone a long way to find a style that suits them, and lastly, this is my opinion and feel free to say anything you wish to ask me😭😭😭😭
5:13 Sam how do you make a drawing that I thought looked perfectly fine look so different 😭 you are so amazing 9:26 omg you did it again but what else would I expect from you 🫢 12:20 just wow.❤
This video made me upset. You care too much about beauty standards. "Looked like they were dropped as a baby" wtf?! People can and do look like that. I understand that's not what the original aristis were going for but that doesn't mean you have to be disrespectful to people who might actually not look what you see as "right"
I kind of love the first one with the mistakes (but without the nose, I think a Greek nose would have been prettier with what gives me a vibe of Egyptian eyes). The drawings have their own vibes and styles I don't think that you should draw them without considering the vibes that come from the drawings
