I got my first and only Kånken in 1981 and I still use it today! My Kånken started its career as a school bag/backpack, but these days it is my trusted companion whenever I go hunting and/or fishing/doing anything outdoorsy! The quality of the fabric is beyond awesome, and during these 40-odd years the only things that I´ve had to replace were one of the zippers and the snap-lock thingiy on the right side strap! The total quality of this bag/backpack is truely amazing! Well worth every penny!!
The Kånken does break sometimes. I mean put enough stress on anything and it will break. But I hear it is relatively easy to repair and that the company promotes customers to repair bags rather than buy a new one.
In Sweden we have "allemansrätten", which mean everybody can go to forrests and woods everywere. Preschools and schoolclasses often takes walks in the woods and when they take a break for a snack you nead something to sit on, the ground i cold so you always hade something to sit on.
hey I know this comment is really old but that sounds super nice especially since where i live in texas is super dry and cold (for us) during the winter and everything is super more dead than normal
depends on what size pc you have :) it can hold up to 14 inch pc but the room isnt really made for pc's wich is why they have made the Fjällräven Kånken 15 inch laptop bag. that bag has a room in the bag with a zipper thats made for laptops :)
Phenomenal review! I saw this a few days ago, and the other day I purchased at my local fjallraven store at the mall a classic Kanken in the color royal blue- flamingo! Already so impressed by how much fits inside it
@@ryantheghost7803 you can pronounce fjäll like the english yell. The ä in räven like rampage (americans, americans actually use the ä-sound a lot). And å in kånken as the ou in gourd. (works with both brittish and american).
It's actually pronounced a bit differently though. In Swedish all the ä letters are pronounced like the e in epic, if they aren't written before the letter r. When the ä is followed by an r, it's like the a in animal. The å is like aw, think about a cute puppy.
Fjallraven Kanken Fj•all•ra•ven Kan•ken /Fee yull reh ven Kon ken/ See definitions in *backpack* *school* noun backpack made in 1978 to prevent back problems among Swedish students
The backpack was made because the founder hated the current backpacks that were used for hiking. So he made one that was comfortable and stored lots of things. It had nothing to do with students. Fjallraven's mission is to push people to experience nature. www.fjallraven.com/us/en-us/about/our-history
You have to separate the name of the brand as a whole and the name of this particular backpack model. Fjällräven is the namne of the company that was founded in the 60's. Just follow the link that Gravity provided for you and read the info. Kånken is one of several products from the Fjällräven brand, and Kånken is from 1978. www.fjallraven.com/us/en-us/bags-gear/kanken
I finally got the bag cuz it was on sale so I payed 61 dollars for it and I’m glad it wasn’t fake cuz it was not from the Fjällräven website so yeah. I recommend you to buy it from a trusted website and not one that have just random people selling items.Stay safe!
the first kånken i tossed the back foam piece thinking it was just packaging 🤦. i love all my fjallraven packs and outerwear. recently pulled out my herschel pack and it felt like a ton truck compared to my kånkens
I like your attention to detail in this review! Ditto on the umbrella stash and it will hold like you said a smaller diameter water bottle, I use one from Under Armor. It also works for the water bottles you buy at the stores....but that's not environmentally friendly! I'm a man and I like this bag for certain situations, the straps are just a tad short though, but work.
I saw ads for Fjallraven Kanken backpacks for a while now. But, the design wasn’t a pick for me as I love to collect backpacks, amongst other things. However, with multiple ads and up to months now I find it’s actually practical as it can be as big as 20L as I usually carry a lot of stuffs in my bag for daily use… and they’re also in multiple enticing colors.
I love that you put footage of yourself wearing it, didn't find any other reviews that did that! You convinced me, I'm going to buy one lol, can't wait!
I've seen a lot of reviews because was interested on this bag but yours is the best. Finally I've got a messenger bag from chrome for about the same price and glad of my choice: 1050d ballistic nylon and tarpaulin interior that makes it waterproof and place for water bottles against the plain canvas of kanken without internal organization
deffo avoid putting water bottles inside the main pouch- I made that mistake and lost my MacBook to a leaked bottle leaving a pool of water in the bottom that wouldn't drain out aha!! mini's work as a great replacement for handbags if you find they always fall off your shoulder :)
when i'm going home from work i see so many students with backpacks. and i saw one student with that backpack, then i saw someone else with it.. then i see many more.. last time i saw like 5 girls walking next to each other with a backpack from that brand. i read the letters and decided to look it up.. i really don't get what is going on right now with these bags
Haha, I feel like lots of kankeners travel in a group. I think VSCO was one thing that helped make them popular again. That’s where I saw them the most. They’re very durable bags (and also super cute) so I can see why everyone has them, lol!
A lot of reviews talk about the price, but its pretty much in line with a 15 L North Face or Osprey for example and nobody questions those ones regarding price. You pay for quality. If it was only $30 you probably - and rightly might not buy it as it most likely will be junk made in a sweat shop.
Ive just bought a used one off ebay. I believe its genuine, but if its a fake its cheap so I'm not getting ripped off. Its hytter red, which I think means wooden hut colour. My randoseru is getting a bit heavy for my 51 year old nerve damaged sboulder!
My bag got a 1 inch hole from bike’s tire smashing on a bag’s corner for 40 km. It’s understandable to get hole but more impressive is that hole never expand at all !! for 2 years of hard, tough heavy carry life.
Indeed , few weeks me and my friends was in a forest with many trees and plants which injured me everywhere in my leg(i wasnt wearing jeans) and the bag survived unscathed almost like nothing, the quality is truly insane ive been using it for almost 2 years now, i bought it early 2019.
thank you for review! I started watching it to improve my listening skills of Eng speech and ended with thinking of buying my first Kanken :D. By the way, what color do you have? Love from Russia!
That was more like telling the item description instead of a review. Anyway, material is a plus although its not that special, price/value is bad. I would choose a Jansport or Tatonka instead of this anyday
It’s Deep Red, as shown in the screenshot at 47 seconds into the video, and also linked in the video description. Plus, my own Kanken Classic is this colour.
Hello everyone! I’m seriously thinking about buying a kanken. My only concern is “fading colors and stains”. How bad it is? Can someone who has experience about this inform me?
depends on the colour you chose, if u get a bright colour like yellow there will definitely be stains and ruin the look while if u chose a dark colour like black or graphite u cant really see them i would recommend a dark red colour.
yeh. that was the sales pitch back in the day. it's bullshit. there's no advantage to this except ONE. swedish kid book bags back in the day were one piece over the shoulder shits. that fucked the kids up. having TWO straps and a backpack solved the hurt shoulder problem but made kids humpbacked because of the weight they shoved into those fucks.
0:11 So you actually googed for the right langauge. You say it in the amerikan or english way. Not the swedish way. Fjällräven Kånken is swedish. "A angry swed"
