she's one of those artists you know deserves to be bigger than she is but at the same time you don't want her to be overrated and have her image insulted by mainstream media because they don't get her.
Spot on. I felt that way about Tori Amos and Sarah Mclachlan too. I can actually list countless artists of all kinds of genres that had that happen. All of which I only listen to old albums and hate the newer released shit. Mainstream destroys.
It's pretty Wicked tho! I hope she comes out of doing this kinda stuff. RU-vid: Memphis Man Describes Dying, Meeting The Devil & Spiritual Awakening RU-vid: Young man dies twice and tells what he saw in the after life (Heaven & Hell is real) Don't want to die while being in something like this!
Every song is so clever like; the submissive dominance of figure 8, the definition of sexual objectification of I'm your doll, the sympathetic to aggressive contrast and showcasing on in time, and the celebration of expressionism in glass and patron (not to mention the artistry of the mothercreep rework) just prove that twigs has created one of the strongest female and artistic statements of this generation. absolute genius
Anubis Walts i dont understand why girl has negative connotations. It shouldnt. people always like to undermine all things ''girl''. But yes, she is fucking brilliant.
Twigs' art is very disturbing but in the most beautiful way. It's different and bold. You will never see such art like this in the music videos of those bland, VMA winning artists that are like everyone else.
I feel like my mind has been violated. The video, concept and the whole artistry is the epitome of a mind fuck in the best way. She isn't meant for this planet, she's ingenious.
Same girl... It was way too uncomfortable for me. First the sex doll, then she was a sex doll. Then i saw a penis! And then some pregnant lady plays in her pee after her water breaks. And then the uncomfortably gay fashion show. By the end of this i didn't know if i was straight, gay, or one of those people thats just going to die alone (not because of who they are but because they cant put themselves in a relationship after some emotional scarring) Men should not watch this . _.
Collin Mcmeeken I mean when your water breaks that isn't pee, uncomfortable gay? really? and assuming by your name, you're a dude, so you likely see a penis every day. Men *need* to watch this.
GreenEcheveria I dont know how a vagina works, im a guy 😅 And as i said before, i didn't know if i was gay or bi but that fashion show (or whatever you want to call it) was very much uncomfortable for me so now im questioning shit even more. And its gay if you're a dude and you see a penis thats not your own. Seeing anyone naked for that matter is uncomfortable, unless you're an art student cause you gotta do some nude models eventually.
Jeremiah Johnson ehh i guess it relates to eastern philosophy a bit. us al being a part of the same conciseness, so you can refer to another and still actually be referring to your self, just you higher spiritual slef. i dont think she was talking about a relationship with another rather a relationship with a god ie the highest spiritual version of the self. but that just my take on it i think songs like this were made so that they could be seen alot of ways.
you know its art, when you physically feel something any other piece would never make you feel. & this video literally gave me so many chills & goosebumps.
+Very Trippy Hippy Through the first two songs, I was thinking I don't really get it but she's got a great voice and the dancing is cool. By the time Glass and Patron ended, however, I was sitting back in my chair like "I'll hold your purse for you." I'm not used to that feeling lol it was cool I like it.
Wow. This staggers even Bjork levels of inexplicability. At times, it seems like FKA twigs is in an alternate cosmic reality of her own. And all we get is a glimpse. She is always daring, always intriguing, and always evolving. This sounds like 3 or 4 songs rolled up into one, and I love it.
Seriously!! It's easily my favorite one. "I'm Your Doll" is a close second, especially the part where she's dancing with the long braids and bangs. Her dancing is always on point!
The best part of this entire sequence, in my mind, was the expression on the man's face when the paint starts to flow down her legs. Not because it WAS a disgusting moment, but it was a CHALLENGING moment. This marvelous instance of vibrancy and boldness that can't, I think, be so easily registered. I felt the same way, had the same expression on my face, and I kept watching because I was enthralled, I couldn't believe it. This woman has tremendous talent. I'm grateful to see it.
I came back to rewatch this video and I had the exact same thought. I used to think it was a funny little clip but it’s a lot more than that. That’s the reaction and emotion she wanted to elicit !!
It's very much a 'male gaze' sort of reaction. It's not inherently unsettling per say, but the stereotypical hyper masculine figures are grossed out. It's also notable that the following song is Glass and Patron, and the colors flowing down her legs are explicit queer references. It could be read, partially at least, as homophobia.
Sometimes I have a hard time trying to understand her videos but I LOVE trying, she's so amazingly creative and fresh with her music as well as her videos. I am so here for this!
fka is the hottest yet most alt artists out there. if she was a kid at a school shed be that super grunge, intimidating hippie kid everyone would want to befriend but are too afraid to because she'd be too cool for them
i feel like society would find her to weird so most likely not many teenagers would accept her. in school everyone follows trends and thats the #1 thing twigs doesnt do hahaha
Nah Tegan, I'm 55, and loooove this stuff. I lived through the final years of The Beatles, saw Punk rise and fall, the Post Punk Industrial music, the hedonism of The New Romantics right through to the decade that rediscovered dance... 90s Trance, House and the chaos that was the KLF! Your grandfather was probably more adventurous in his music taste than you! Twigs is a breath of fresh air, a genre creator and an amazing talent.
FKA twigs changed my life. she helped me really appreciate pop music as a genre- and helped me realize that pop music is more than the stereotype that people perpetuate (ex. brainless, repetitive, etc.) pop music can be all of those things, yes. but it can be so much more, and twigs proves this. here. we see pop music as a medium to convey one's thoughts and feelings about complex concepts such as female sexuality, race, relationships, mortality, etc. She just helped me realize that pop, like every other genre, has the capacity to express profound meaning and also her nails are killer and i want her to fucking CHOKE ME
so maybe you should start digging Lady Gaga and performance art. Here is one of my favourite wikipedia page ever : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relationship_between_avant-garde_art_and_American_pop_culture
This video is fucking intense, like i cant stop getting floored by it as it goes on and on, at first i was like "what? 16 minutes! its brobs filled with a bunch of filler shit," HOLY CRAP was i wrong, this goes in my top 10 for sure, jesus, im honestly floored, speechless,
Hyena Media and Productions I know. I first saw this from DM to be honest but I had to watch it because it seeed so interesting. And then I started watching it and I couldn't stop. I wanted to see more. It was intense and deep and I feel like of... I don't know... weird? But a good weird.
Franco Lucien Please don't be a self entitled religious prick in comments. I doubt you would have complained if i had said Mohammad, Guru Nanak, Buddha or Jehovah. I really doubt your lord gives a flying fuck,
Hyena Media and Productions oh you'll find out how many fucks he gives. and you are right, I don't care if you use and abuse whatever other demonic gods, but NOT JESUS or JEHOVAH. He is the one true God and He looks down on this wickedness with a heart of indignation. Unless you repent, you will end up like that witch in the video, burned alive and turned to ashes.
What I love about FKA Twigs is she doesn't care about being famous. She hasn't sold out on us and it's been like 4 years most artist would have sold out by now. She only cares about her music and what her fans needs. I respect her so much on that. This is seriously beautiful !! She doesn't need that VMA award, give this woman an Oscar !! Lmao! 😂
Sorry but when I see what she made lately, all her crappy collaborations with rappers and famous names, I want to disagree with you even if it makes me really sad... 😔
@@lisamariepagliei3945 it wouldn't be demonic, macabre definitely but NOT demonic. The Protestants have really limited the English language. Anything that ventures beyond their puriatinist parameters is satanic or demonic. It's sad really
I would think that FKA twigs would be more so influenced by the uk's punk scene, specifically many of the female fronted bands, as well as pop icons Bjork and Janet, rather than Aaliyah. I think a lot of you in the comments are too young to know anything besides Aaliyah. Because Aaliyah, like Britney, was heavily influenced by Janet. I mean everything y'all think Aaliyah started, really started with Janet. From the vocals to the outfits, and the overall tomboy aesthetic. I mean that is all Janet.
i dont get the looks or the character she is trying to portray but her music is something very fresh for today's music industry.EP2 and LP1 is awesome. she is not "bjork's great" but good enough. her vocal is very versatile, and the minimal blend of rnb, experimental, trip hop, trap, and electronica is dope...if you say she is talentless or whatever, grow the fuck up. we need different kinds of music now in 2015. we're not living in 1997 when mtv was actually a music television. this is 10 times better than david baguetta, martin garrix, etc and fucking meghan traitor who gets 500 million views because she wrote some lyrics about staying fat cause being in shape doesnt exist in rl only in photoshop? k den. we need twigs.
Edan Khan No one can match up to Bjork and no one should. Bjork, Kate Bush, Portishead, and other female artists helped pave the way for women like Twigs. Future legends for future generations. Its hard to be unique, but Twigs brings a new flavor.
***** yes. a flavor. we've been drinking sewage treatment piss for the last 5 years with the katy perry, nicki minaj, david guetta etc on the charts. its time for some fucking coke.
***** lmfao...ikr. 2015 in music is totally absurd. and also im not saying like "hey i listen to something unique so im better than you or whatever"...but it is so fucking clear that these not on the chart artists actually have talent it hurts. fuck you music industry. *sips my fancy bourbon like a motherfuecking king*
+weenermeat Well she deserves it because that song got so much reception. It was all people talked about. Idk.. shit like that always happens. We should just appreciate both sides of music bc life's too short to be hating on "mainstream" shit.
To everyone saying that she deserves a VMA, no she doesn't, don't put Twigs in the same level as those self proclaimed "artists", its an insult to her. Don't say she deserves an award from a place that seems to only award the most bland "musicians" out there.
I love everything about 'in time'! especially that guys face when her "water breaks". and the choreography... the beat! yasssss. I love all 16 minutes of the whole video too
This is art, like she did the video with a lot of creativity all those movements, all those colours i mean this is completely the expression of art this should win all those nominations cuz she completely deserves it.
I doubt she'll win sadly because most teenagers who only listen to mainstream music don't know who she even is or probably think she's weird. But if she wins, I would die happy.
@Ash Witherton Then your comment makes no sense since we don't know. Why even supposing that she's bi ? Twigs seems enough open minded to say this kind of things so it really makes no sense.
This woman is hella talented and I don't believe she gets near the credit she deserves. She is such a great singer/dancer/artist. Hope she keeps up the great work.
It should be a crime if shes never been a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race.. just saying. Voguing on the runway? Come on! Also In Time choreography looks so fun! I'm obsessed.
She never disappoints. And with the song "In Time" how she incorporated mainstream with her usual unique style of music is beyond me. Love it Love it love it love it love #loveit #FKATwigs
ART. Seeing her live show in Seattle a couple years back was the best live concert I have ever seen in my life. I totally understand her and LOVE her!!!
The more I drift away from society, the more Twigs music moves something in my soul. She's seriously top 5. I bought this EP when it came out, but I'm still digesting it all these years later ❤. It's like, each new stage in life makes these songs mean something new
Easily one of my favorite artists of all time. There isn't a single song of her I can't listen to. M3LL155X is an entire new level of sound and art. Pure beauty.
It's unfortunate that the music industry is so overpopulated with rubbish and reincarnates of previous things because if FKA had come out in the early 90's or early 2000's (when MTV actually showcased diversity in music) she would have really been in a league of her own, which she is in now, but definitely get more recognition and a wider audience.
tnargtnarud Well at least we had Kelis and Aaliyah during that time and people weren't ready for them then. I see their influence on Twigs and I think she is perfect in this era.
tnargtnarud as an Aaliyah fan, in all respect, she did showcase diversity for the public in her brief career, so let's not take that away from her artistry. She definitely had plans to show just how widely diverse she is but her death put that to a hold.
Well thats why gorillaz was formed. Damon albarn saw the shit on MTV and decided to try to flip the music industry on its head. Funnily enough it put blur (the band he's in) and gorillaz (the band he made up) on MTV up until a year after the second album came out in 2005 and MTV was far from the same thing it was. But no one even cares about them any more! And everyone hates the new album even though. 1. We waited six years for this and 2. Theres one bad song and thats because of the two guests on it. Little simz is a fucking goddess, they put her on a live stream and she got so much fucking hate because she wasn't Damon. All in all mainstream media and most of the so called "Fans" are horrible when it comes to actual music.
Seriously, years later and Figure 8 is one of the most beautiful, striking and mind bending songs ive ever heard, it feels like some sort of otherworldly invocation
She Is Beautiful In Every Way..I've Been Waiting For A Artist Like Her To Come On The Scene,She brings So Much Uniqueness And Creativity it literally leaves you curious yet bundled up in strange emotions I love FKA twigs
Kate Bush - Bjork - FKA Twigs? This has been a statement that's been batted around for a while now. I've always fought against it, but this release is turning me. Eerie, evocative and truly tantalising music. I don't think she's released her Post yet, but this may be a sign that's she's building to it
Yes, 'Glass & Patron' and 'In Time' were the best in my opinion (maybe because they were the least dark, I don't know), but it fits very well as one video. By the way, the guy at 14:34 is so gorgeous. :o
It's funny if you think about it, some people might've just discovered her from the crow but she's way ahead of her time, i'm so happy i clicked on papy pacify when yt recommended it to me. I love you, twigs!
parts of this video/song/experience are so nightmarish and claustrophobic but still prevail with beautiful, climatic and emotional sections that leave you amazed. Fuck. I'm already lying down but, after that, I need a lie down somewhere else.
+People ?? That's true. Even when all songs here are beyond amazing, Figure 8 is the best! So freaking experimental, dark and morbid. My favorite tune of the year by a mile!
Who ever is the creative behind these sounds deserves a fucking award. It’s next level. It’s musical but not instrumental most of the time. Samples and pitched and effected everywhere…
