Sure! When you pull, make sure your arms are moving straight out to the sides and the flag is spinning directly in front of you (not going high above your head like a toss). It's hard to know EXACTLY what is causing your double catching without actually seeing you do it, but that's a common cause of it with my students. Keep spinning!
@Elena, Jackie marched most notably with the Blue Stars from LaCrosse, WI - however, she made her start with her first couple of corps years at a smaller group called Memphis Sound from Collierville, TN.
It’s hard to tell exactly what is happening without seeing you perform the move. Most of the tips that I would give without seeing you are in this video. If you want to send a video to one of our social media accounts, I can have somebody look at it and get back to you.
We have this thing called spin medley in my guard and at the very end we do pole hits. The first part of the pole hits is pretty okay for me but then we do pole hit on count one hold on count two and then repeat that six more times and then on the second count of eight on seven eight we do a cone and then a pop toss. It's so hard for me to stay strong in between the fast pole hits and I often find myself not holding on count two. Instead I catch on count two and then I don't hold so it's basically constantly moving in circles. Please help!! Thank you :)
This could be a strength issue or it could have to do with the speed of the music. I generally teach my pole hits to be pulled on count one and caught on count two. What it sounds like is your instructor wants the flag to be in the air on count one. Maybe try pulling on the "and" before count one and catching on the "and" after count one so that you can hold count two. Let me know if this works because I am super curious about it!
At first, I did struggle to toss it in front, but after a couple of tries I got the hang of it and started to catch on the tapes little by little! I can't thank you enough
I would try doing the motion without a flag. Start with left hand on top and quickly pull hands apart and then back. Also, make sure you are pulling the flag evenly with both hands.
