FUN FACT: The Saudi Arabian flag is never lowered to half-mast as a sign of mourning. Lowering the flag would be considered blasphemous. This also applies to the flags of Afghanistan, Somaliland, and Iraq where the Shahada is written (or in Iraq's case, Takbir).

The word "al" is Arabic's definitive article; English's is "the". As a result, most Arabic-derived English words with an "al" in them contain this article, such as "algebra", "algorithm", "alcohol", and even "admiral".
@alejandroojeda1572
@alejandroojeda1572 4 года назад
In spanish admiral IS almirante....thus you see the missing 'al' My favourite arabic loneword though has to be "ojalá", a very comon Word, which comes from the arabic "by Allah" (that's not the exact translation but it's pretty similar) So in spanish you can see "por dios, ojalá lo consiga" which roughly translates to: by gods sake (and Allah) may i get it. 😅😅😅 Basically, every time we wish something in spanish we call upon Allah.

3:00 - Regarding the Saudi flag... many years ago (I can't remember the exact year) the McDonalds restaurant chain did an ad campaign promoting World Cup soccer that involved releasing soda cups featuring the flags of the various competing nations, with a different flag on each cup! McDonalds was clearly hoping that World Cup soccer fans would try to collect cups from all of the participating nations. The only problem was that not everybody collects soft-drink cups, and some were thrown into the trash. As Saudi Arabia was one of the nations competing, somebody noticed Saudi flag cups with the words from the Koran printed on them, sitting in trash cans, and there was an immediate (and loud) outcry that ultimately forced McDonalds to cancel the whole thing!

The Spanish language has also been influenced by Arabic to an astounding degree (I’m putting that here since I assume most watchers from the US have Spanish as a second language). The amount of words is too numerous to count, but basically anything that starts with “al-“ such as “alfombra (rug), albornoz (bath robe), alcalde (mayor)” comes from the Arabic language. After Latin, it’s probably the biggest contributor to the Spanish language, which shouldn’t be surprising; about 700 years of presence will do that to you.

As a yemeni I have no problems with Saudi Arabia. We love Saudi Arabia unlike what western media's like to protray 🇾🇪🇾🇪🇸🇦🇸🇦❤️ It's the country we get most aid from, the country that has most refugees even before Saudi entering the war, and the country we hope to be when things calm down. Majority of Yemenis have family in Saudi Arabia and love them. It's a minority in the north called the houthis who have the problems and we consider them as terriosts even most northerners hate them as they are literally just a terriost proxy for Iran they are the ones who control sanna and most people in sanna are trapped and literally their only goal is to go to Aden which is the city which the Yemeni government and Saudis control every day we welcome thousands who fled the houthi controlled areas. Missing fscts: You didn't focus a lot on the Eastern province. So here are some facts 1. Rich history with oil and western expats and has most of the borders including all GCC countries. 2. DMM is the main international airport in the area and it happens to be the biggest airport in the world in terms of land space (bigger than Bahrain). 3. Historical regions such as Qatif hosted the Portuguese and still has Portuguese castles as well as first runway in the peninsula. The founder of new Saudi Arabia used to fly and land in this runway. Runway is located in Tarout island. 4. Sea and fish culture west and east 5. During the winter we in the east witness the birds and flamingos migration. You can spot them on the coast (corniche). 6. Sea burials are huge in the east. bigger than Dubai and Bahrain. You can see the change from satellite images over the years. Thank you for efforts and I hope you shed some light on these facts.

I’d like to mention that although the general customs are similar all around Saudi Arabia, people visiting often forget that this country is multi-ethnic, meaning it harbors various Saudi minorities with a tad different approach to things. Especially the Afro-Arab population (probably the biggest minority)concentrated in the Hejaz region, that not only speak differently but do have some other traditional dishes than usually displayed in the mid and Far East regions of Saudi Arabia. I invite those whom visit to engage with the variegated populations, folklore and try to appreciate the many dialects. Don’t forget to go to the not so popular places too! There is Nejd and Baha for example that don’t fit in the stereotypical desert-camel-tent idea of the country, they are green and full of crops and vegetation.

Because it is a derivative of Rugby Football. We dropped Rugby and kept the football. That is also why we call the kicking sport "soccer" because it comes from the fact the sport was initially known as Association Football, the word soccer has it's origins in association. We just used alternative shorthands for the sports, and over time the original naming conventions have fallen by the wayside and we are left with the current names and little context as to why.

its from the basic and esiencial rules with guests are: 1. when they finished thier coffee emediatly must to filled ( u should not be late or make the guest need to look at you to fill it as that counts disrespect of the guests and unwelcoming signs) 2. always keep feeding the guest before lunch or dinner by coffe dates or chocolates or dates bies and tea with nuts and biscutes and before those juice , and then lunch or dinner , then after that again coffee with sweet things thats serve with it and tea with salty things that surve with it ( as we drink tea usually sweetened with suger) 3. the one who always keep an eye on the geust cups so when it finished emmediaty filled is either one of the host house and usually the yongest , and in large number gathering we usually rent a man to help and THEY ARE PAID FOR THE JOB . 4. even most of our homes are designed guest based, if we have villa with 3 floors , 95% of people will make the first floor for guest surving only that contain ( men setting room and men eating room and bathrom beside those, and separatly ladies setting room and ladies eating room with bathroom beside and lastly the kitchen) these are the 7 rooms that occupy the first floor in most of our homes in 900 meter squar or depending on the house space. lastly, i want to clarfy that we the ARABS love having guest very much as we really really like gust to come and eat and feelling comfartable in our house , and if they are close related we keep asking them to spend thier night in the house ( as we usually finishs our gathering late at night, so they not facing tirdness or diffculty on going back to thier homes) = in conclusion we really love having and feeding guests.

@@smrusselkabirroomey7396, The Houthis aren't the only ones fighting, they merely took the lead in 2015 and are considered the most professional militia in Yemen (this due to the previous conflicts they were involved in). Many tribes (almost all Sunni) joined in. There's also a part of the Yemeni army that deserted in order to join the Houthis and a part of those loyal to former dictator Saleh are still fighting for the Houthis as well. There are quite a few reasons as to why the Houthis (and all those other tribes) revolted. I'll list the biggest ones to make it eaaier to understand. 1) The biggest reason was the lack of reforms. In 2011 the Houthis supported the revolution against Yemens dictator Saleh. Following Saleh's fall the vice president, Hadi, became president/dictator (no decent elections have been held in Yemen). Years went by and the Houthis, among others, got increasingly frustrated as the promised reforms stayed out. 2) Corruption. Yemen is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and the government of Hadi has made no effort to combat it. 3) Extremists in Yemen. The Houthis are shia and have been the target of discrimination since the 1960s (this is also the reason as to why they exist, they literally had to fight for their rights). Seeing the rise of Al-Qaeda in Yemen and the emerging Al-Islah party (basically an extremist wahabbi party) made them weary and it bacame yet another point of frustration as the Hadi government didn't do much to combat this extremism. 4) fuel prices. This isn't a big reason, but the rise of fuel prices was the last straw for the Houthis and many others, and thus they disposed the Hadi regime. Currently pro-Houthi Yemen is ruled by the Supreme Political Council, which includes members from a variety of tribes and political parties/movements.

1:54 It started with 2011 protests in Yemen part of the wider Arab Spring protests. then Saleh resigned and there was a presidential election with only 1 CANDIDATE that was Hadi and he won with 100% votes. Houthis boycotted the vote and advanced further to Sanna then Hadi fled to Aden and make it the Temporary Capital of Yemen but the Houthis invaded Aden too so he fled to Saudi Arabia where he is currently in exile even though he's still the current president of Yemen. The Hadi Government of Yemen is supported by the Saudi-led coalition (also including Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco and Senegal) while the Houthis are supported by Iran

Yemeni here, now before i start let me say this: this is a general explanation and is meant to reflect on the MAJORITY of people as there are exceptions. the conflict in Yemen started when the people of Yemen, majority Sunni wanted to kick out the old dictator, Ali Abdullah Saleh, from power (he is dead now tho, killed by the Houthis) during the protests and for some reason, the military police and the riot control started shooting at protestors, and thing escalated until a missile was shot at KSA, after which ksa went into the conflict, ksa of course didn't support Ali saleh, who was backed by Iran and the shiat houthis, the majority of the people followed the new government, and ksa backed them with airstrikes, the houthi regime kept losing battles, and after certain "differences" between the houthis and saleh surfaced, they shot him, the conflict keeps going on and on, and the houthis keep vomiting more and more crimes, and yes they are the bad guys here they shell entire cities for days without care, while the government forces don't do that because MOST OF THOSE PEOPLE ARE THERE FAMILY, Iran keeps backing houthis, and ksa keeps backing the new government and that's all.

quick note, the text in the middle of the flag isn't the shahada it's the kalima. It's basically a shortened version of it. The shahada has the phrase "I testify that" before There's no true god worthy of worship but Allah, and also before Muhammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, salallahu alayhi wa salam) is the messenger of Allah. The text on the flag doesn't contain the phrase "I testify that".
