That's not Carry for the colors bearers. Carry means to place the staff into the socket of the harness (which they are not wearing). This is a color guard, a ceremonial element of an honor guard. Please do not attempt to recreate the flag raising at Iwo Jima by standing on the stands and slamming the staffs in the stands. When you are going to place the staff in the stands, look down without bending at the waist to either side. If the flag is in your way, move it with your hand slightly until you can see the end of the staff and the opening of the stand. Dressing the flag does not require a full, outward spread of the arms. Just hold the silk at shoulder height and shoulder width and ensure the flag hangs properly to present a more professional appearance. The small facing movements are not necessary ("Ready" Face). If you feel you must render the hand salute, the team should face forward and do so without the excessive commands.
Sir, could you shed some light on where this posting technique comes from? Where do the commands prepare to post, ready, POST followed by a leaning over and forceful driving of the flag staffs into the stands come from? Are they just made up? This SAME technique is taught by one of the local Fire department honor guard academies in my area and it is a technique that I really hate but everyone around me insist on using it! I have never found it in the Army, Marine Corps or Air Force drill and ceremony manuals. Not in TC 3-21.5, MCO 5060.20 or AFMAN 34-515. I have told my honor guard that they shall never use this technique for posting colors. I'm not trying to be rude or call anyone out, I just wish I understood this.
@@link5629 None of those commands exist for posting colors. They've never existed. That's all just made up out of thin air. This posting technique is also not a thing in reality. Veteran groups and some first responders use it, slamming the staffs in the stands, as if that's the proper and professional handling of the colors - it definitely is not. Everything here is made up to serve ego.
