Non-English viewer here. The fact that Sunak made an official statement makes the situation feel like it's the plotline of some British sitcom. It's so dumb lol
@@Vizehjust to be extremely clear because you've actually spoken out against this in the past as "sjw bullshit " when people say something is woke its when you see weponizing of products items against a certain demographic like remember that ad from Gillette a few, years ago the one that called all men "toxic "? that's what in general people describe as,woke or how, about a bbc woman calling the england women's national team "too white" when in general you never hear people complain about skin colours from other national teams. Hope this helps
Alfie from HITC Sevens had probably one of my favourite takes on this topic in his video, where he suggested that "tampering with the flag" is one of the most English things to do while showcasing how many flags fans bring to games have writing on them. On an unrelated note, I really hope to see you two do a charity thing together. You're both great examples of what football-focused RU-vid channels can be.
@Vizeh Make this happen Make it happen I kid of course Just wanted to add my voice to the appreciate to Noth your takes on this most silly of "issues" I'm German so of course this counts for absolutely nothing at all
@@killshot3254 Do you think the England flag in different colours is more, equally or less insulting than the "get the badge in/get the bags (cocaine) in/get the slags in/Hull City" England flag?
@@kyewilson7837 No one hates your flag, no one outside of england probably give a shit, you're ignoring the actual reason and just LOOKING to be offended by something.
As someone not-English this is really funny to us. But not unexpected. This is exactly the kind of English stereotypes you will hear about you abroad; the wide consensus is that you are really dramatic
@@Vizeh As an American I can confirm, albeit I do think that it would be wise to avoid ending up in the same place. Videos like this on the one by HITC Sevens show an awareness that I don't often see in my own country which is something, I suppose.
Bro if this was the states you'd have a caravan of motorized scooters parading the Walmart parking lot in protest. I'm just relieved to see it's not just the US that's full of half re(ally smart people)tards brainwashed by media outrage
The English are hysterical when it comes to imaginary problems & sit there & take it like servile little sidlings when there's a real problem to get upset about. I say this as an England supporter who's lived there my entire life. It's why I refuse to identify as English. Fortunately, I was born in Jersey, so I have a get out.
4:55 up here in Scotland we have a long history of changing the saltire’s colour scheme for football, red for Aberdeen, maroon for hearts, green for hibs and the list goes on
In germany we have a kinda similar situation with out national team kits. Our away kit is pink and so many people hate it because it’s not a german colour
Ah well there you go then. We won't be seeing any video essays made about why the German people are wrong for not wanting their kit to be pink, though.
Actually, they declared its represents the "new germany", the "diverse" germany. Great replacement as its finest. At least most of the so called germans love it because all of you raised in selfhatred
No they don’t hate it because it‘s a non-german color… germany had green away kits too, and nobody hated them just because of the color. It‘s because addidas, like nike, says that with this color or flag they explicitly represent everyone in their country. Not just “white men“ (Nike X-Post / Addidas Advert) So nike/addidas did color the cross/shirt pink to make it controversial. Obviously people make it a bigger deal then it is, and the outrage is absolutely unnecessary. But I think this could have been prevented.
As an Irishman, I think it’s fair to be upset about the desecration of the flag, after all, it’s not like England desecrated entire countries over the past 800 years.
This is the exact reason people are pissed off is Because you keep using our history as a wepon against modern people to shame them for bieng born here we had nothing to do with the events from 200 years ago
i get why people are upset about it, but its a 2cm extra design to a football shirt, its not racist, its not sexist is it, or am i just dumb? nope, it shouldnt bother us at all, people are only doing it for attention tbf
I would understand it more if it was a large element of the shirt, but this is just a small little detail that no one cared or noticed until 24 hours later when Nike decided to tweet. Such a waste of time and energy man
I promise that Nike did it for attention. But by all means blame those who are tired of companies that keep trying to get attention with overtly "woke" ads and not the company.
No it's because people are fed up of having the national flag disrespected and people lecturing them about events from centuries ago as a reason they can't be proud to wave the flag
This is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. HITC Sevens also made a great video on this. Seriously, keep up your work Liam, your content has been rapidly improving in recent years
The reason it’s annoyed everyone is probably because for the last 20 years we’ve been listening to all these idiots telling us the English flag is a hate symbol and that we’re not allowed to be proud of it, and this take it further
Such a sophisticated, moving title. If I wasn’t a lazy prick, I could write a 40 mark English Language GCSE analysis to propose to the world how thought-provoking and impactful it is. Truly another masterpiece that changed my life Liam, thank you.
It's because every day in this country we hear people lecture us about how we should be ashamed to live in this country ashamed to be proud of this country and ashamed to wave our flags don't believe me? A man was arrested in the street the other day for carrying the union jack another man is bieng forced to remove a mural of the union Jack from his fish and chip shop ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ets2GOG6CK0.htmlsi=KAnycJUvyWGX0V5M and another was called a coloniser for daring to be proud of waving St George's cross ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HpKbCf6MPgc.htmlsi=VozkjKtlLEeuWNKP so it may seem like an insignificant detail but it's all related to the same thing
@@kyewilson7837 Suprise, surprise - the link is TalkTV lol. That guy was arrested for shouting racial abuse not carrying a Union flag. The Union flag mural was removed because it was painted without permission. Don't let facts get in the way of your anger though!
I think there’s a difference between using the cross as a motif in a design and altering the colour when doing so and altering the flag on the collar which should be the actual flag? Idk using the cross design and changing the colour isn’t the same as changing the flag. Dunno if that makes sense
My only issues with videos like this is: how do we get messages like this across to PMs, the fans who went nuts with the flag, or people who are on the fence on the issue? This was recommended to me because I’m 1) Subscribed to vizeh and consume his content but also 2) am on the same wavelength. We consume media that we’re already on the same wavelength on while the opposite consume, well, the opposite takes on this matter. This video was worded so well and got to the point fairly quick, and gave STRONG arguments as to why this isn’t a big deal. I just wish this reaches more people, but it’s also highly likely that if it does reach the target audience, they probably won’t listen since it counters their way of thinking. Great vid though, loved the insight, esp the bit at the end.
I think in a situation like this more people than you’d think are really central in their views and that many don’t care - and those that do hold a strong view are very likely ridged in that perspective. I can only speak for myself in this instance and if people agree then great
German here: We kind of have the same “uproar” with the only difference being it’s about our away kit color being pink/purple. The arguments are the exact same, the people arguing about it are pretty much the exact same as well. I just want the Euros to begin and have some English blokes over here drinking a beer with me while talking about football, nobody should care about a kit that much. 😅
Ok that's weird.. I just saw a quote on RU-vid which perfectly connects to this video. "People start beef over anything because they really just got beef with themselves"
If Castore put an altered version of the Irish flag on the back on our new shirt to commemorate the Irish 1990 World Cup training tops, I wouldn’t complain
It's annoying because it looks woke and people are fed up with it getting shoved down their throats at every opportunity. Maybe it's a coincidence it looks woke but probably it's not.
Typical conservative rhetoric. Anything I see that I disagree with or dislike is "woke". Nothing is getting shoved down your throat, the colours aren't related to the myriad of things you passionately hate and using the american term "woke" in an attempt to state how proudly engLish you are is just weird.
@@chadchaddertonif you understood how often people are told that they should hate this country by a bunch of socialist assholes who can't get over events from 200 years, ago then you'd understand and just to clarify when we think something is woke its like that Gillette ad from a few years ago that called all men toxic its like when a female bbc reporter called our national women's team too white but youd never hear anyone say that about people from other regions of the world its how in movies and TV shows like the Ann bolyn and cleopatra documentaries that were marketed as "factual " despite the fact they used black actors to portray them and then the directors come out and say "its just acting why does it matter" despite the fact if it was done in reverse and a historical black figure was portrayed as white you know we'd catch shit (and rightfully so) as it relates to this its about a bloke bieng arrested for carrying a union Jack in London its about a fish and chip shop owner bieng forced to remove a union jack mural from his shop its about sadiq khan changing railway lines for 0 reasons and it goes on and on so what you see as rhetoric might have some legitimacy behind it you just need to look hard enough
Here in morocco puma charges us 150 euros for the moroccan shirt while it costs 90 euros in Europe idk what puma thinks they are doing here ,and that is without mentioning that these shirts designs are mediocre at best
This kit controversy is the perfect example that people will complain about anything. It is a flag on the back of a football kit. People need to chill out 😂
It's because every day people are bieng told every day by mass media they should be ashamed of there country ashamed to be born here and this little change however small it may seem just adds to the feeling that people hate this country for example a British fish and chip shop owner was told to remove a union jack mural from his building a man was arrested for simply carrying the union Jack in London it goes on and on
Because every day people are bieng told by big socialist media that they should be ashamed to live hear ashamed to wave our flags and we should be automatically compared to random people from centuries ago for events that happened that we had no part in don't believe me ? There's been a news story going around about how a fish and chip shop owner is bieng forced to remove his union Jack murals from the side of his shop . Or how about a man bieng arrested in the middle of London for ... carrying a union Jack
If you understood how often we get told that we should be ashamed of this country ashamed to wave this country's flag and then get lectured about events in this country from centuries ago commited by people from centuries ago and then get treated like we had something to do with it then it would become obvious that big cooperations hate anyone who's proud of there country
As a German i have to say, we have an equal problem with our purple and pink away kit. It's just sad, to see many people have no bigger problem than this.
Glad i watched this video! Everyone needs to watch it. I was in conversation with someone, and didnt know the full context of this change. I was under the impression that it was a permanent change to the flags colours for good from nike to promote "an agenda"? Great vid Viz 👍🏼
Non english viewer here, but i do live there - its funny how actual politicians are talking about this small little flag when the country is in a crisis
Respect to you doing thst super lokg marathon i wnans get into walking or taking jogs in the morning, when did you start doing that on a consistent basis
At the same time, you could do a video about this astronomically bad marketing. They changed the design to... "unite and inspire" except no one knows who they are trying to untie and inspire, and they someone managed to get a ton of backlash.
I’m sorry, but pulling out the : why don’t you uproar about the state of the country and the NHS etc.. is just very childish. People do and have been for fucking years but it goes no where, we can’t change those things. They’re massive institutions that rely on ancient bureaucratic systems. The changing of a flag on an England kit represents a small potential victory for fans who are a sick of seeing similar things happen all over the place. Please don’t pretend it’s not a trend that’s carried through everything at the moment. a flag beinf inclusive?? thats fucking horse shit.
People made up the agenda in their minds though. All Nike ever said was “unite and inspire,” which can mean anything (and really means nothing). Everyone else decided what it meant
The idea for the 2010 design Vizeh mentions was explicitly political, yet there was no media storm. Any 'political agenda' in this has been manufactured ironically by people with very clear political agendas.
If politicians really cared, then they would've never let that kit be released. Warn the FA or whoever has authority over that part. Set guidelines. But as you've shown, they wouldn't really mind if it wasn't tweeted by the manufacturer.
