A Swart STR-Tweed is a very good sounding 5 watt amp with extra tube gain stage and 12 inch speaker. Gets plenty loud but not overkill like the higher wattage amps. Not quiet. I have that with a blue Celestion alnico and other Swarts, And several 5 and 20 watt Tungsten amps and a Z-Wreck Jr head. And a Universal Audio OX. Playing a tube amp head through the OX and using good headphones such as Shure SRH840 sounds like the real deal on a concert stage. At any time of day.
I have a maz18 junior Mark 1 with the blue celestion and also a tone King imperial Mark 1 with a gold celestion that I run in Stereo and the two of them together is just glorious! They really compliment each other so well. The doctor Z has that beautiful organic breakup while the tone King does the black face Fender Deluxe Reverb better than the fender! Having said that I think that my rig sounds far better than either of these amps that were demoed today. I thought that they sounded harsh and lacked that organic thing that my Maz 18 Junior has. I'm not knocking on your playing or your choice of material to demo these amps. They just didn't do it for me, just my two cents worth and obviously we're all different and tone is so subjective. But as usual it was a great demo and the presentation was really well done the editing really well done so please don't think that I'm hating on anybody here!
Your Strat has some serious mojo going on. I'm not usually a straight up Strat fan but yours always sounds so awesome. Dimed through those amps it was insane! As I was watching that part I was thinking "I bet he can feel the sound pressure waves pummeling his back" and sure enough you mentioned it at the end. Great stuff. Cheers!
AWESOME! Love the tones. 2 Amps > 1 Amp always :) I use a JTM45 and a Super Reverb like that... yeah my neighbors hate me aswell , apart from this old guy that lives close he really likes rock´n Roll ^^
Dr Z is the only amp brand I need in my life now. I have the Z-Wreck Head and matching cab and a Z-Best Cab. The amp is just ridiculous. I'm now keeping an eye out for a Dr Z Antidote to go with my Z-Best Cab and also looking for a red 2x10 Z Cab and a red Stangray Head to go with. Just insane amps, never heard/ played anything like them.
@@JoePerkinsMusic The EMS does look and sound amazing, I'd also love to try that and to does the Ghia, I love the simplicity of that amp. Dam I think I'd have most of them 😅
I really enjoyed this video Joe and the Z-Master still has a place in my heart (one day i'll get it). I have two questions regarding amps: 1. How do you decide which amps are going to get paired? Personally i like the idea of paring a high wattage (something like a Twin, Bassman, Plexi so in the 50-100watt range) with a cranked low wattage combo (something in the 5-15wattage range) so with the guitar at full volume you get this big rock sound and then when you lower the volume of the guitar, the small combo "disappear" and you hear this beautiful clean tone. 2. I know you like British voice amps but i never heard you talk about Laney or Selmer amps, do you have any plans of buying more british voiced amps?
Hi Enrico! To be honest, I don't often pair amps nowadays - I prefer to use a 2x12 with different speakers, to create a similar effect but at lower volumes! But pairing low wattage & high wattage is something a lot of people do - and lower powered amps tend to have less lows and a more snarly midrange which compliments bigger, thumpier amps. I'd love to check out Laney/Selmer/etc but I've just never got around to it...hopefully one day soon! :-)
it would be cool to dye the air to see how much it's moving/ the patterns being made... unfortunately, the only way i know how to do that would be highly toxic.
