It took over 50 years for Joe Walsh to put his signature on a guitar amplifier, but with the Dr. Z Z-Master, he finally did it. And it was worth the wait! Patterned after a long-lost vintage combo from his past, the Z-Master delivers a tube-soaked tone versatile enough to accommodate Joe’s playing style and his vast, unique collection of guitars. Experience an impressive range of sonic textures thanks to two internally blended voices with independent Volume knobs. Then fine-tune your sound with Bass, Treble, and Presence controls. Integrating your pedalboard with the Z-Master is a breeze, thanks to its high-headroom design, but crank it up and you’ll need to watch out - it can get pretty rowdy when it has to.

Nope. He said Triad made Fender 4 ohm speakers. He also said the tweeds used 12AT7's. Wrong. They used 12AY7's and 12AX7's. The long tail phase inverter was used in tweeds, well before Blackface amps. Also, speaker impedance rating is just an average. Across the frequency spectrum they can vary from 2 ohms to 32 ohms typically. A 2 ohm or a 2.6 ohm output transformer in a Bandmaster won't be the source of amp mojo. Speakers don't sag, it's the power supply that sags.

This is about the most comprehensive description of an amp by a signature artist I've ever heard. Joe shows you what it sounds like, and if you have a grasp of tube amp design ,lays out why it sounds like it does and why he wanted this as his signature amp. This is the opposite of much of the bullshit you get surrounding much gear, signature or otherwise. Fucking awesome

Joe Walsh is an unbelievable guy! Great guitar player and great guy. He elevated The Eagle's to another level, he was a bonafide Rock legend when he was brought in to the fold in The Eagle's. He might sound like a crispy critter from all the years of drugs and alcohol but if you tune out his delivery and his way of speaking and listen to the content he has so much knowledge of sound and tone. If I could ever meet one of the greats and have a sit down and be shown some secrets and some styles this guy is on the top of my list! Billy Gibbons is another, both guys just make it look effortless and natural.

After playing in 2 different bands around Ocean City MD. Baltimore and Virginia Beach and Washington D.C. along with other places and opening up for some bands trying to make it back in the 80s like Bad Company Thin Lizzy BTO and a few others including Poison I learned a little bit. Poison was using a fill in bass, lead guitar and drummer. Anyway after 16 minutes of singing out of key and off beat the crowd started leaving or booing. Poison expected the fans to love them for what they use to be. Didn't work. My point is after playing the drums for decades and making just enough to eat most of the time I realized I wasn't going to ever be eating lobster or driving a new Lamborghini but I knew that Joe Walsh was going to be remembered forever. His God gifted talents are untouchable. Playing the lead guitar takes lots of talent with years of practice and dedication along with a passion which Joe has shown the world that he has for years. Playing lead and rhythm should be called playing Joe. I don't know of anyone else nor have I ever heard of anyone else that could play lead and rhythm and sing at the same time without needing a drummer or bass guitar or back up vocals and still sound like a 5 piece band. Just imagine being able to have a 1 hour concert all by yourself and sounding like a orchestra. Joe Walsh love's his music and we all love and respect Joe Walsh for dedicating his entire life to entertaining the world. Even if he had lots of fun with chainsaws and other toys destroying wall's toilets. Remember it's hard to leave when you can't find the door. Especially when you're driving 185 mph. On a good note at the Civic Center in Ocean City MD. in 1986 we opened up for a very popular band and I'm not going to mention the band's name because in the 70s they rocked us all but anyway after they tried to play a couple song's the crowd started erupting and getting extremely angry. My band members were all still there and the Civic Center coordinator came over to Chrome our lead vocals and asked if we would play a bit more. 10 minutes later the curtains were down and our equipment was coming back up on stage, after the coordinator got the crowds approval for us to comeback and play. Anyway we got the humbling honor of coming back on stage and playing for nearly 70 minutes without a real break. And playing one of our original songs written by Chrome and Jeter. I actually signed several autographs to lots of really nice and intoxicated people. That probably forgot about us the next morning.

In all my reading, all the interviews with Leo and contemporaries, using what was readily available, and affordable, played way more a part of design than any of our discussions about magic components and somehow special woods or finishes. Joe is right, they tried what they had available and that produced the sounds we love, not trying the hardest to get or special parts. The rest is magic because of the players who used them in their personal way. I hope I can try one of these sometime.

It works with every guitar I have. With low volumes, it has a glossy thing that’s so beautiful but , but at those same volumes, you can make it do an angry Keef thing quite easy. It also pedals up better then any amp I have ever used. Then when you crank it, it smashes the room, but like he says its articulate. One more thing, when he says it is waiting to see, he is spot on. #everybodyssodifferentihaventchanged

Joe is the greatest amp builder/tech/top dog guitarist on the planet. I bet he would be big fun for an amp builder to work with. HELLO DOLLY!

Joe Walsh wow! What an amazing guy. Down to earth as down-to-earth can be. And it sounds like whenever he plays with every claim you can tell if Sam can't you? I seen him lecture students pretty recently videos of that and I seen his old Gibson commercial videos how to take care of your gifts and how to set it up excetera very cool down-to-earth and if I'm not mistaken he gave Jimmy change his famous Les Paul write she gave George Harrison his first S3 if I'm not mistaken that guitar was used in the revolver error on revolver and who else did he give a guitar to oh yes and what he gave Peter Townsend the am and I think he also gave you two towns on the guitar what a cool guy great fucking historical and contemporary current music I love her song analog Man which is not today's time frame but it's only a year or two back right what a lovely great guy great video

Great content. Very nice man and thanks to Joe for taking the time to talk to us. Great job by Mitch in an odd set up. Looks like a backroom at airport security. Kind of a throw back video quality on early MTV. Did Mitch have his shoes off too?

Oh boy, Joe is THE MAN! Sounds like he’s just about to lapse into a deep sleep........then comes out with sharply observed gems of knowledge and wisdom! And of course, like all the greats, has a totally unique and instantly recognisable tone! He’s the guy who got me into DrZ amps YEARS ago! 😎😍👍

Holy shit. I just bought a Fender Blues Jr and now I realize I got no idea what’s in it or how it works. Joe is just amazing as a man and as a guitar player.

Joe is one generous guy to sacrifice that baby for Pete to sound so great. 'Who's Next' is my favorite of Pete's tones and my favorite Who album. I own a 65' bandmaster. It does not do what this thing does. After learning about this amp I am considering having my tech change my 65' bandmaster head into this circuit. It may not be the combo but I'll be half way there.

Sweetwater has gone from "look at what all the nerd knobs do on this thing-a-ma-jigger box" videos years ago - to bringing us Jedi wisdom from Joe Walsh and Brad Paisley. It's also a testament to how much these two Ordinary Average Guys love Dr. Z and his amps. Thank you Sweetwater for bringing us Joe and Brad. Thank you Joe and Brad for your words of wisdom and for being a key part of why we picked up a guitar in the first place. And thank you Dr. Z for being such a Class A act and the excellent product and service you provide (he answers the damn phone personally...can't beat that :)
