One of the most beautiful railways in the world has had one of its most successful summers on record. The 20km train ride from Flam, at the end of the Unesco-protected Aurlandsfjord, through precipices and past huge waterfalls to a height of 866m at Myrdal, in Western Norway, is regarded as an engineering marvel because of the steep gradient. Yeah but there's no rides and top-notch service with a smile like Disneyland, thanks to my parents I've been 15 times so yeah I love Disney.

If you want pure nature then go to Alaska, and take the train ride from Seward to Fairbanks.

In my career-life class I had to plan a trip with my job I picked and my earnings and I just picked Flåm out of nowhere and now I HAVE to go here during winter and take the train ride

Now they have Swiss-made electric motors pulling the train, when I visited they still had Norwegian ones. The coaches are still the same. What we did was walk down all the way and ride the train up. THAT was great!

PeterNGloor yea in 2014 They Scrapped all but one of The green El17 series 2 locomotives from 1987 They were pretty young to be scrapped at that age :( now They use El18

They all seem to speak the same language on that train. On my daily commute to London one hears many people talking loudly into their mobile phones in different languages.

Nyah, not THAT great...but if you spent that silly amount of money for the ride, it'd be kinda embarrassing to admit you were suckered...it's more like a "since we're here then why not ? kind of activity. Really nothing to shout about....the Fiord cruise was good enough. A cute little museum at Flam focusing on the history of the train with lots of lovely HO scale train models.

Train journey must not be slow, it can be fast, the modern train travel can be longer and faster, like high speed train through out the world

I got my ride as part of a package deal including flights and accommodation in Oslo and Bergen. "Norway in a Nutshell" is good way to visit.

what a bs comment! less than 5.8km are tunnels, the rest of the 20km track is under the open sky. Btw what exactly do you expect from roads and railroad tracks in a mountainious country? Of course there will be tunnels, lots of tunnels
