I have called flame king THREE times today, all I get the a privilege to leave a voice mail ! Hey Flame King there is someone who needs HELP with your product ! I didn’t spend OVER $50 for the kit & 3 extra bottles for ONE TIME USE !
This is the best review I have seen on filling one pound propane bottles correctly and safely. And it's not against the law to refill the bottles when you purchase this bottle . Thank you so much. Fred.
Before disconnecting the refill device from the big propane bottle, bleed it using the trigger. This doubles as a safety precaution to ensure that you've actually closed your big propane bottle and won't end up in a dangerous situation if you haven't (super cold propane spewing out of the big bottle uncontrollably after partially loosening the refill device). Speaking from experience unfortunately.
You can't tell if you've closed the valve or not? Lmao. Also propane won't spew out, the valves have safety shut offs when there's nothing attached. You can take a 20 lb tank and "open" the valve with nothing attached and no propane will come out. They're stupid-proofed.
Warning: When 20 lbs tanks are welded at the factory, the worker is supposed to flip the empty tank upside down, and remove all welding spatter (slag) from inside the tank, through the tank neck, before installing the OPD valve. LAZY workers don't do this, leaving tiny metal particles inside the tank (like tiny metal balls). If you put the tank upside down, these particles may block the Valve inside the tank, causing tank blockage and no gas flow. Even worst: a tiny metal spec may travel into the valve of your refillable 1lb bottle, causing the valve to block open, ejecting all propane once you disconnect it from the 20 lbs tank. If you read on a certain big site reviews, this is exactly what has happened to a few owners who reported the 1 lb bottle ejecting all the propane upon disconnect. Upon getting a new 20lbs tank, always put the tank on the floor, then carefully flip it 45 degrees to one side and listen if there spatter moving inside - it will sound like there's sand sliding inside at the bottom of the tank. If you hear this, skip that tank and pick one that doesn't have this sound.
I ordered these from Canada about five years ago and I love them. It didn't come with a stand at the time. I use them with my Coleman Gladiator when I am pressure Canning, I only use about 2/3 a tank on a 75 minute pressure can
Great video. Clear, short and simple, just like process. I just refilled my three tanks. Thanks for the products and video! I'll share this with my camping friends.
Better option than those 1 lb ones that are not designed for refilling as they have thin walls that debilitate with each refill, until one day boom! 💥 there goes everything around you, including yourself. I work in the pressure vessels and tanks division in an oil and gas company.
David Darby. All is great, but there are plenty of "outlaws" out there that are filling those one shot tanks. Some are idiots that mess with relief valve that don't always reseal, thereby endangering themselves, their family on a camping trip, etc. There are ways to do it safely -- just don't fill them to 16 ounces. Fill a few more and be safe with under filled tanks. This kit only includes one tank. Extras are very pricey. Nobody wants to spend 8 or 10 bucks per refillable tank when new full tanks cost maybe 5 bucks each. Just be careful all you gawd damn outlaws ! You'll be glad you did.
@@BBBYpsi okay, so I too am an "outlaw". Yes, I have and will continue to refill these tanks, which are designed to be a waste product, a waste of iron metal and green paint and destined for the landfill as garbage. I'm not even certain recycling centers will take them. (Defunct refrigerators have to be certified as being evacuated of gasses.). Could one drill a hole or remove that needle valve to let out the vapers ? I just prefer to refill those green tanks and don't tell my cop/ Nazi neighbor. And if they don't weigh exactly 16 oz, so much safer for my camping trip. I have had a fall hunting camp set up before season started and made sure I had at around 10 or 12 tanks that didn't leak down when needed. Used a small heater and stove for a four or five day stay in my shelter. Had plenty of home loaded ammo for my deer rifle. In short, I switched on my brain, paid attention to what the "F" I was doing and lived to come back home. As I've said, don't let idiots mess with things that can put your life in danger -- propane tanks, guns and ammo, automobiles, etc, including politics ( of which we have NO CONTROL). Cheers, mate.
perhaps this video should be updated to show the new ones that now have the white peg and the slightly different groove on the bottles. It seems this has changed. @flameking
hi again i sent them an email , i didn't even get a confirmation email stating anyone received it, i do thank you for answering me, i was really disappointed that the one i bought didn't work, i have to run a propane heater and other things if we lose power and we do frequently here in the woods, so 1lb tanks are more reasonable than 20 lb tanks ,
QUESTION: when you open the bleeder valve and press down on the fill nozzle, the air that immediately blows out the small hole, is that air being pushed out of the tank as propane fills it? Or am I not supposed to be getting any pressure until it fills to 80%?
Vapor propane will come out of the bleeder screw as the tank gets filled, the tank will have reached the 80% mark once a white mist is consistently spewed from the bleeder screw.
I would recommend including steps for shutting and checking shut valves as part of this official product video. Users may have widely varying levels of mechanical experience/ common sense.
There is a reason for colemans little valve on the side and don't be playing with it When your filling tanks up and If you're trying let pressure off that little tank ....release the pressure from the middle and check the weight on those tanks and don't over fill them
@@myoutdoorlife3833 Yes, I just bought 4 of them about a month ago. You need to "choose" the store location that has them in stock and pay like a shopping fee of, I don't know, $1.75. Let me see if I can find the location that has them and I will give you the details.
@@maryproveaux9200 just wondering, do they deliver to your house or do you need to pick it up at a local Menard's? We don't have a Menard's in our neck of the woods.
@@myoutdoorlife3833 We don't have one here in New Mexico either. I ordered it online to ship to me. However, earlier today I went to go find one and checked all of the stores and they don't have anymore. So sorry I spoke before I looked. I just bought 4 in November.
No, it would work. But safely flipping the tank over and supporting it seems like a big enough obstacle to just not do it. You could use 40lbers if you need a lot of refills. The cost per lb is the same. The other slight problem is that 100lbers only have "POL" threads (internal left hand). They do not have the QCC1 thread that the Flame King filler attaches to. But there is a simple adapter for that.
Yes, the 100 lb tanks typically come with a POL valve which is not compatible with the Propane Fitting Adapter Valve for 1LB Refillable Tank Cylinders.
You could keep it on if it’s stored in a secure location where no one will bump it and thus breaking the adapter. But I wouldnt keep the propane tank upside down during storage.
So I wondered what the little steam was for in on the refill adapter. It’s to index the tank to the adapter. But I just heard him say index it then he goes to tighten the bottle and rotated the bottle.
The refillable tank is the best thing since the 1 pound tanks were invented. There is also another item that Party King Grills makes that adds even more value and uses for the Flame King Refillable tank. It is called the EZ-BBQ Fuel Kit and what sets it apart from anything ever offered before is it makes your 1 pound tanks capable of fueling a new large array of propane fuels products such as gas bbq grills up to 3 burners or 35000 BTU whereas the 1 pound tanks can only support products that need up to a maximum of 15000 BTU. If a converter or adaptor is added to a larger than a one burner grill is used to attempt to fuel a bigger grill the small tank freezes up. This is because propane is a liquid and the part of the propane that is used to fuel a grill or any other small appliance is vapor. Propane turns to vapor as it is used and of the vapor is used faster than the liquid can vaporize ice forms and the tank freezes off. The concept of the EZ-BBQ Fuel Kit address the freezing issue by combining two of the one pound cylinders to form one output which is the same output connection as the standard 20 pound tank. When you add the EZ-BBQ Fuel kit to your array of portable outdoor propane powered products you have just opened a entire new category of uses for the 1 pound tank because now you are substituting the 1 pound for the 20 pound powered product. Check it out and let us know what you think. The EZ-BBQ Fuel Kit opens a lot of opportunities for Flame King Refillable to substitute the need for the 20 pound tank. Transporting a 20 pound tank is a pain and can be dangerous on to mention cumbersome. Our solution, use 1 pound canisters with the EZ-BBQ Fuel Kit then all you ever need is 1 pound tanks and a 20 pounder for keeping at home and using for a storage reservoir to refill all your 1 pound tanks. If you are serious about saving money invest in a 30 or 40 pound tank to keep at home for your bulk tank and use it to fill all your canisters. It works the same way as the 20 for a reservoir and your don't have to buy so much expensive propane. Note: if you choose a bigger bulk tank be sure to secure it at the top so it cannot tip over when placed on the stand to make it upside down as it will only work as a refill bulk tank in its upside down position. Happy grilling with 1 pound Flame King refillable canisters and a Party King Grills EZ-BBQ Fuel Kit. partykinggrills.com/shop/double-barrel-fuel-system-tvm-1100-copy/Regards, PartyKingGrills.com
Is it air that I feel coming out of the 1 lb bottle as I do this? Any circumstances in which it's full and I won't see the overflow? I like my life, so being cautious!
Since we are supposed to do this outdoors, are there any limitations for the ambient temperature while refilling. Can I safely refill cylinders when it is below freezing outside, or on a hot summer day?
Since you are filling using the dip tube it should generally be fine as the ambient pressure is escaping until it reaches the 80% mark. Obviously extreme changes in temperatures (filled in when very cold then used in warm place) can have an effect on propane expansion.
All propane tanks are filled less than 100%, because propane expands a lot with temp differences. That way there is room for expansion in the tank without possibly exploding or rapturing the tank.
@@michalhavlik1127 after doing research I found that when the tank is 100% full by weight it is about 80% full by volume. It's confusing when they don't denote which measurement they're referring to.
Are thes tanks legally transportable after filling, just like 20lbers?I have your kit ,plus 4 ilb FlameKing tanks. They work great. I always weigh after filling and the bleed method is amazingly accurate.
No, you absolutely do NOT pre-chill the tank. There is no need as the tank has a bleeder screw so that you can fill to the correct 80% level. There is a clear warning on the packaging NOT to put the tank into the freezer and not to pre-chill the cylinder.
Hi flame king is the cylinder the same dimensions as a disposable Colman cylinder I'm wondering if one of these would work with a propane outboard motor
I put my new Flame King cylinders next to a bunch of Coleman cylinders I had been refilling, and to me they look identical in height. If they are taller, it can't be by more than 1/8". Maybe Flame King can chime in, but the bases on the cylinders I received seem to be lower in profile than the ones in the pictures. Maybe they made a product revision to fix this concern?
I purchased a couple of these tanks to use with my propane ice auger and big buddy heater they are the same size and the disposal tanks they fit nicely in my heater and my auger was made for the disposal 1 lb tanks and it fits perfectly in it too
How many times can they be refilled? I saw the tanks for sale, says they last 10-12 years. But how many refills? I'll need to refill more than "average".
@@Terryg1968 these are built to the same engineering specs as your BBQ 20# tank. How many times can you fill those in 10-12 years? As many times as you want (so long as nothing happens to it to compromise the integrity of the tank). Same thing with the 1 Lb refillables.
Inside where it connects to the tank are plastic washers or shims. Mine just fell out one day and I was scratching my head going "what happened and why won't it connect right?". Failed in a very remote national wildlife refuge in arkansas. Want to replace it?
Yes, I have the same issue when opening the cylinder valve. It still refills the tank, but I waste a lot of gas. It didn't leak the first time I used the refill device. I don't know if it is the cold temperatures messing up the o-ring.
I get propane coming from below the fill nozzle, wasting lots of gas; don’t remember if it happens ALL the time or just when the nozzle is depressed. I do t remember this happening when I did it the first time several months ago.
I find it takes about 1-2 minutes, depending on how far you open up the bleed screw while filling. It works very well. Tanks end up very full. Tried it on my portable weber grill, and it works awesome.
I just used it and had a pretty smooth experience, but dang these bottle are hard to find. I only got one with the kit, and I would like a couple more. Mostly just eBay listings.
I think I had a problem using Flame Ling filling device with the Coleman cylinder. Not compatible. I had to make a small modification. The Flame King cylinder now does not work as it was designed with Flame King Cylinders. I found a you tube on how to make the modification change. The stem/hole on the connection interferes with being screw on with Coleman cylinder. . Also the FlamKing cylinder does not have a safety pressure release valve. How did this get past Government safety approval. At $ 15 each, It would take 7-10 refills to break even. I have refilled my Coleman cylinder 4 times now without problems. . Better refill equipment can be found with flex tubing to cylinder,
1) Of course there is a safety relief valve! It is integrated into the valve itself and not off-set to the side like the disposables. 2) Our fill device is not permitted or designed to fill disposable cylinders. It is dangerous and a liability.
If the small white tab that you line up with the cylinder gets broken, the refillable cylinder won’t refill. If you take the small plastic bushing that is on the stem off and sand or remove about 1/16 or less of an inch from it, it will allow the stem to penetrate into the tank enough to refill. That’s what I had to do when the white tab broke off anyway.
@@rickywrenn Regulation do not allow 20# TANKS STORED IN THE HOUSE> Instead of the 2# tanks, I use the 20# tank in the house. The tank is no longer in a storage but is now in full use. A 20# tanked in the house is not any more dangerous than a a 2# tank During emergency conditions, which is more important, keeping alive warm or freezing. People use the 20# tanks in workshops without any problem.
When a 20# tank is used inside the house, it is no longer in storage. The damage from 1# cylinder leaking is enough to blow up a house. People have a dozen of these in their homes. At Home Depot there are dozens of 20 # tanks stored in front and non ever leak. It is mostly Homeowner INS that limits the 20# tanks. Many people have attached garages with them for years stored. threat
I bought a hand held (Lincoln Electric Propane Torch at Lowe's) it fit right on my gas grill propane tank. Bought some of these 1 pounders and just realized I need an adapter of some sort. Either that or a new torch. Suggestions appreciated.
@@flamekingproducts , I have the reflill kit but it didn't fit the torch I bought. However, I did by the Flame King torch directly from Flame King. The 1 pounders screw right on and is so much easier to manage that the bigger torch and hauling around the 25lb tank. This combo (Flame King torch and 1 pounder) gives me plenty of power to burn up weeds & grasses in patches and also to target weeds in the middle of my yard without killing everything around it. Wish I'd started with all Flame King.
Always connect and disconnect SLOWLY, so if you did a mistake and gas start whooshing with pressure, you have time to close back the knob. Mistakes happen, always eye protection, long sleeve clothes and only outdoors away from sources of fire, angry neighbors and crazy dogs.
Remember, propane is LP (liquid propane). When the 20lb tanks are full and connected to a heater or grill what burns is the gas. If you were to try and fill right side up you would get a small amount of gas propane instead of liquid. Upside down and what fills the small tank is liquid, which expands to a gas as it's used. If you've ever refilled butane lighters it's the same concept. The lighter is held upside down and the butane canister fills the lighter in its' upside down position. You see the liquid gas fill the lighter and when used turns into a gas. I hope that explains it.
It makes sense that you'd get a better fill with the 20lb tank upside down, but it's interesting that in the other video, basically a commercial, the cartoon dad is filling up his bottle right side up, without even taking it out from under the grill.
Hello. Regarding your RU-vid video, entitled 1 Lb refillable cylinder filling instructions, what if the larger supply cylinder from which the smaller 1 Lb cylinder is to be refilled has an OPD (i.e., Overfill Protection Device valve), such as which comes, for example, with your 20lb LP Cylinder w/OPD & gauge, Model #: YSN230 , or with your smaller 5lb LP Cylinder w/OPD & Gauge, Model #: YSN5LB-GAUGE . . . can the smaller 1 Lb cylinder still be refilled from either of the two aforementioned, larger cylinders,, from an inverted position, such as shown with the kit, or does the OPD valve prevent or inhibit this? Please forgive my ignorance, as I'm new to all of this, and not quite sure as to the functionality, of how the OPD valve works - but I just ordered one of your smaller / aforementioned 5 lb cylinders (from Costco) as a starting point, before deciding if I want to later upgrade to a 20 Lb cylinder, w/the refill kit. Your help / clarification would be greatly appreciated. ALSO, Due to the fact that the Shipping & Handling / Tracking information that I’ve received from Costco - (as related to my purchase from them, of your smaller “5lb LP Cylinder w/OPD & Gauge, Model #: YSN5LB-GAUGE”) - states that they’re shipping such to me via UPS, from “YSN IMPORTS,” 8616 Slauson Ave, Pico Rivera, CA, 906604435, would you also please kindly further advise me, as to whether these product / tank assemblies are actually made &/or manufactured and assembled, here in the USA, or in China, etc., and then imported, from there, to here)? Thanks, in advance. Sincerely, Steven K McKendall Sr
Is it safe to use in the Big Buddy propane heater when it's sitting at an angle outside the case, not tucked in with the door closed? It would be necessary to modify one or the other to get it to fit inside.
Yes, unless you want to go boom when it expands due to weather conditions. Is standard in anything that’s volatile, white gas, even insect repellent canisters can explode if exposed to heat and they’re full. My friend left a canister of bug repellent on her table outside in hot weather and exploded braking the glass and other things, luckily they weren’t there so no injuries.
I noticed the same thing on mine. Did Flame King stop including the white stem? Would be nice if someone from Flame King would address this. If the white stem is no longer included, then u should update the video as opposed to having people wonder if the part they received is broken, etc.
Oh! So you have to buy the refill kit to for this type of bottle? I've been using the other 1lb. cylinders for years. I fill them up about ten to twelve at a time. Paying $10 for a 20lb refill saves me a lot of dough!
It saves money, but those 1 lb ones are not designed for refilling as they have thin walls that debilitate with each refill, until one day boom! 💥 there goes everything around you, including yourself. I work in the pressure vessels and tanks division in an oil and gas company.
@@user-dh4bz7fk9z I've had them rupture, and it isn't quite as you say. I just turned off the 20-pound tank, and that was that. Think about it: if you spill some gasoline filling your car because you pull the hose out too fast, does your entire car explode? I didn't think so (it's a good thing too since probably a million people do that per day somewhere on this planet). The only reason mine ruptured was because the tank was quite obviously rusty, and it rusted straight through the walls. In other words, it was totally my fault. Is this better? Sure I guess. And if it makes you happy to know you have not broken code or whatever your goal, buy it, but I'm not even close to anal enough to buy something like this. It just looks like a huge pain in the ass to use anyway.
@Harry Wang You might want to look up how things burn. Hint: oxygen plays a role. I have PERSONALLY thrown a lit match in my gas can to make sure of it; yeah, the match went out as any idiot would know. in fact that was a demonstration in my advanced placement organic chemistry class back in high school. Anyway, just another idiot troll. I don't' know why I bless them with my replies. I guess in a way, I just feel sorry for you. Later.
@@domitronyou don’t have to buy the whole kit, I have a different one for refilling but I do have the refillable 1 lbs, when you compare the weight even when empty you can tell these have heavy walls making it safer. I don’t know about you but I value my life and like the fact that I know is not overfilled without having to weigh it or bleed the valve. Regardless of wether the regular ones explode, which they definitely can specially if overfilled and stored in hot weather there’s also a higher risk of a bleeding valve since they’re not meant to be refilled which can be dangerous too. I’ll stick with the Flame King, they pay for themselves in the long run anyway.
Due to the extreme popularity of the item and disruptions in production because of COVID, it has been hard keeping them in stock. You should check Amazon about once a week, as we constantly supply them with some stock as they come in.
It works the same way. The issue is that a full 40Lb tank weighs almost 80 lbs. So to balance that on the tank holder is a bad idea and it will probably topple over. So we recommend that it should only be done with a 20 Lber.
Seems great but I can’t see paying $55 for just a 1 pound tank on Amazon if you want extra 1 pound tanks paying that much for one tank wouldn’t be worth it
It normally retails for less than that. But you are forgetting that its a one time purchase. Refilling will cost you about $0.50 per refill, saving you $3 every.single.time...
@@flamekingco An 8 or 10 bucks an empty bottle is still too damn much to pay. I know they are legal to transport, and can be refilled for as long as propane is available. Those green one shot tanks can be used safety IF and only if certain precautions are taken, like don't fill them to exactly 16 oz and make sure to never mess with that needle relief valve near the top. Always check for leaks around the fill port. I check a couple days later as well before I stow them for later use during camping trips. Use those caps over the fill ports, too. CCWSig yes they are, it's just that current inventory ran out due to a an unexpected surge in demand. We should have more in about 45 days and you will see them again everywhere.
I have the refill bottle attached and when I turn the 20lb tank on propane starts spewing out of refill nozzle. I turned it off. It is not really clear to me when the allen key is open or closed. Total noob.
Great video. I have this product and it’s amazing. I have filled up 2 tanks and used them both and now I needed to refill them. I did the exact same thing you showed on the video, only I have a problem with propane coming out of the valve directly underneath the silver handle. It looks like a flat head screw, don’t know if it has come loose or what. But as soon as I turn on the propane it spits propane out of that valve. And help?
I did reach out to flame king and they said “It sounds like the bit on the relief valve is loose. There's a straight indent on it that can be tightened with a flathead screwdriver.” So I did tighten it up.... and problem solved!!
Kits & the tanks are in very short supply. Guess people recognize the benefits of filling your own. Really want the refillable cylinders. As most know the single use are a serious risk for refill. Only takes one to leak or rupture for a disaster. Good luck finding the kits. I couldn't.
The reason you freeze the nonrefillable cylinders is because you can't bleed the vapor out of them. It helps get more propane in it. This kit allows you to properly bleed the cylinder while filling it, which is much better.
It is not illegal to refill a disposable cylinder. It is illegal to transport a cylinder that has been refilled. There are other refillable couplings, hoses and adapters that are on sale advertising that they refill propane cylinder. . The protection excuse is an excuse to sell you a $15 cylinder. Theses cylinders are also illegal to transport after refilling. Commercial filling of cylinders have a certification process that the law requires.
disposable cylinders are not intended to be refilled, so the valve seals are not designed to last for a very long time. the flame king cylinders have solid brass valves with high-quality seals that will last for a very long time, and they are much faster and easier to refill. the flame king cylinders are completely legal to transport because they have the same certifications as the common 20-pound grill tanks.
@@marzsit9833 The certification of a 20 lb tank requires an inspection and has a date limitation of the refilling to not exceed 10 years. Flame King has no government certification during it manufacturing and has no special government standards. An overfilled Flame king is just as dangerous as an overfilled disposable cylinder.
It seems a pointless feature when there are already so many devices sold on the market that do just that. Unless there's some kind of regulatory reasoning behind it...
@Harry Wang this comment made me imagine lawyers flying through the air with kung fu move to the music "and they were kung fu fighting..." I only wish this would happen in real life. You're right, this country is to litigious it's ridiculous!

If I had know about the non compatibility of the value connection, to Coleman Cylinders, I and many other would not have purchased the Frost King kit. There is also no clear mention of this in the You tube. The $15 for a F.K. cylinder makes it a rip-off. I thru my F.K. cylinder out.
I just got one of these. i get everything connected, lined up, turn on the gas, and it just blows out the bottom of refill device right below the handle...sure doesn't seem right.
I just recieved mine today, and its doing the same thing. It looks like a spring inside if I look through the hole. Possibly improperly adjusted pressure relief safety valve?
