I have used the original brass refill adapter, several times. I can recommend using a spray bottle of soapy water, to spray on your tanks before and after re-filling, to test for leaking! No sense in wasting gas on a leaky tank, and its an explosion hazard! 💣💥

I had the idea to build one of these adapters years ago, but never did it. My idea was to nest the 20 lb. Tank into 2 plastic milk crates, stacked on top of each other, for a sturdy and stable mount. Seems easier, now, just to buy this kit! 😊

I admire your attention to safety but what's up with your #20 tank? That thing looks like it's 20 years old,rusty and way past it's expiration date, which is 12 years from date of manufacture. Most propane locations won't refill a tank that looks like that. I would suggest you purchase a new #20 lb. tank and take your safety concerns to the next level!

It's all just surface rust. The tank is actually not that old. With the humidity of SW Florida, if you leave the plastic sleeve on the tank that is what happens underneath. Whenever my tanks start to get close to their expiration date, I just was them out with whatever tank exchange company my local hardware store uses.

I never use tank exchange (Blue Rhino) you're tank doesn't get filled to the correct level and you pay more for less.Great video though I'm going to check out the Flame King refillable bottles! @@KempOutside

Uhhh is that just full indication overflow vent or is that just a vent for purging? I thought it was supposed to be weighed after filling to fill only to factory weight specs?

Bought 4 new 1lb items from Amazon.. When I shake it, only one product makes a sound in the gas cylinder. I wonder if everything is fine. It's like a little piece of iron...

Thats strange, I’ve never noticed that. Maybe contact Flame King and ask them. Please let me know what they say.

You apparently have never seen what a 1 pound propane bottle does when it explodes if it gets air into it. I worked in the gas industry for 40 years and I have seen what happens when they explode.

Could you possibly do a video on one of them refillable propane tanks would look like if it did explode if there is a safe way for you to do this for all your viewers if you'd have a RU-vid channel. But please do please be very safe when you are making video for everyone okay. I would like to let everyone know what it would do if a propane tank get explode around you. All this is a inspirational safe video for everyone to watch so they can learn on the safety of refilling propane tank and how would someone refill them the Safeway and what is products that you can purchase to safely referral propane tank models within the law and not breaking the law. I really would think this video would help people going to be safe ways to camp safely and save money in the long run by refilling propane tank bottles and not having to send empty propane tank bottles to the landfill.

Is it supposed to smell like propane immediately when filling?

Whats the purpose of the tab you line up? Does it serve a function in the refill process? I bought an aftermarket refill hose and im wondering if it will work with these flame king 1lb tank. Also if i get the refill kit from flame king, will that white tab keep me from using on the coleman tanks?
@KempOutside
@KempOutside Год назад
I think it forces the tank to be oriented so the hex key to open the valve is in the right place. I don’t think you’d have a problem filling standard tanks.

@@KempOutside ok that makes sense. I actually just got my tanks today and I filled them without an issue. Thanks a bunch for getting back to me and I loved your video by the way; it's really informative.

Yes, the tab prevents you from attaching a non-refillable tank.

Yes, you can fill the 1lb tank even if your 20lb tank isn't completely full.

I don't think it is rate for a 40lb tank. I'd stick with 20s only.

Well when you go online and tell everyone you only drive around refilled cylinders you need tanks that are DOT approved! 😂 What a racket! 🤣 By the way, I'm not knocking you dude... I just think the system is a gas! Pun intended. Your video was great and the product is actually kind of cool... it seems that the only real benefit is the ease in which they fill, and the fact that if something does go wrong, the company can be held liable, and therefore, are likely making the actual functioning components on/in those tanks much more robust. To me, that's the only real sales point. Well-maintained/properly stored disposable tanks are perfectly fine to refill and use for those who aren't messing around with the pressure relief valve, and bleeding off the air through the Schrader valve in the main port, which unlike the former, is designed to be engaged and disengaged repeatedly... By the way, just a thought... if you remove the logo, are you also removing the proof that you are carrying a DOT approved refilled tank? Probably not gonna be a problem... but does it become as a serial # is to a firearm?!? The world may never know, and I doubt we're going to find out anytime soon. As for me, I only carry the green tanks that I've purchased, filled by the company that supplied it in the first place! 😉 Of course the ones that I've refilled I only use at home, because I'm a good person! 😅

@@KempOutside at least if we're going to get screwed by corporations we can get our hands on better tanks! Hard to find anything of quality anymore!

I have to go back and look to see about the DOT proof. I think it is stamped into the tank but I’ll have to check. After using them a few times I really like them. They don’t leak after use which was the biggest problem I had with single use tanks.
@OGRH
@OGRH 11 месяцев назад
@@KempOutside I haven't noticed mine leaking, but maybe the environment has a lot to do with that... Or maybe they are and I'm just not noticing the difference in the amount... I would be surprised if they didn't have something stamped into the metal... or maybe it's a lack of a stamp that is key (?). Either way if something is approved. By a three letter agency and they can lock us up/fine us half $1 million... they sure as hell better require a stamp! Otherwise, they are just pandering to their corporate overlords.
@tinker0000

You only have to use the allen key when a tank is new. The tank comes pressurized with compressed air that needs to be bled the first time. Subsequent refills in the same container don't have any air in them as it was purged during the first fill.
@fendert1384

How do you know when the tank is full , if you can't see propane coming out the bleed screw?
@philiptong4978
@philiptong4978 10 месяцев назад
gas pressure (containing propane gas, not atmospheric air anymore) increase inside the receiving tank as it is being filled up with liquid propane, that increasing gas pressure will eventually block the incoming propane liquid flow from donor tank the vent is there to relief gas pressure buildup by venting at a certain depth level inside the tank via a tube, it also works to indicate a safe fill level (80% of container volume for thermal expansion) for another layer of safety receiving tank should have an Overfill Protection Device (OPD) valve to block the incoming flow once 80% capacity is reached this work similar to the 20lb (or bigger) propane tank
