From season 5, this fight opposing Kraken to Black Dragon was very technical, and went to the judges!

Show Synopsis: With all the thrills and edge-of-your-seat tension of a major sporting tournament, combined with the latest in robot engineering and larger-than-life inventors, BattleBots has viewers of all ages gripped.
In pairs, bot inventors go head-to-head inside the perilous and bullet-proof BattleBot arena, with the aim of destroying or completely disabling their opponent’s machine.

That was a close match.. Kraken dominated, but didn't do much visible damage. Sounds like the crowd thought Kraken deserved the win.

Yeah, this fight is a perfect example of how battlebots doesn't want anything other than spinners to compete. Don't get me wrong, I love spinners, but not when they're the only robot in the whole competition. If you ask me, they should change the judging criteria to that of robot wars, with 3 for aggression, 2 for damage, and 1 for control.

Lol I'm from Australia and i am glad black dragon won. I too get why they won and im glad they won too. Cause kraken guy showed poor sportsmanship with how he was in their face saying how good he was. While black dragon was polite and respectful.

Kraken has the best control in this fight, but damage points ARE the real deal. Black Dragon did great damage but Kraken resisted insanely well from BD's saw. Though, Kraken's tooth WAS a little loose... Should've gone to the dentist first 😂 Kraken can easily move opponents to traps. But having a weapon inside the mouth like a one-time spear would be great. After it gets a good hold, the spear thrusts like a bullet. A body like Kraken's couldn't carry a power weapon like a saw so it goes with a flamethrower instead. I think Kraken can carry a one-time spear, maybe it's powered by gunpowder (idk if gunpowder is allowed, I saw a bot with a one-time spear so that part's allowed at least hehe) because that won't require heavy complex machinery armed inside a body like Kraken's.

I don't think the judges noticed that Black Dragon's igniter broke. We can see it was just shooting propane all around. That should have awarded many to Kraken.

Im not even sure if it would be possible for Kraken to score more than a 1 for damage and with a bot that’s gonna go to decision almost every time that seems like a really bad strategy

That bots like Kraken rarely do well is a fault with the rules rather than anything else. I've always been a HUGE fan of control bots and enjoy competing with them myself at lower weight categories. Basically, I don't think Damage should be a judging criteria. The reason being, damage has already spoken in the fight, right? A damaged bot is gonna have less Control, be able to show less aggression. And to cap it off a damaging bot has the capacity to win by knockout! So there's no need to reward this specific weapon type any more than you already have. Battlebots is a spectacle, right? So replace damage with just that. Spectacle. Or to borrow from UK Robot Wars, Style. Define it as effective weapon use, and reward grabs, flamethrowers, suplexes , flips, hammer blows, and big spinner impacts all equally. Encourage weapon diversity, as that leads to more interesting fights and a more rounded meta. Spinners will still usually win, because Damage speaks volumes during the fight, so there's no need for judges to favour it even MORE heavily

Kraken doesn't understand that a dragon is immune to flames. Such as when they spent an entire 3-minute match on fire and didn't die.

This was a very close fight and was a big talking point of the season. Until the "bikerack" happened.

I think the way you look at it is that even though kraken controlled the fight black dragon would be able to fight after with less repairs since it was fairly obvious that kraken was not able to bite down any more meaning they have some serious damage done while black dragon was still almost completely functional I feel people didn’t agree with the results because it appears like kraken dominated the fight but I feel that kraken wouldn’t have been able to do anything but hold black dragon while black dragon could still fight

All about damage. Black dragon was also able to push the other bot around when its wheels were down, and still had a primary weapon.

Kraken doesn't do damage and a big part of the scoring is for that. It's unfortunate, this was essentially a perfect control bot fight... but control bots are kind of behind right from the start with how fights are scored.

Not hard to see why Kraken tends to suffer in most of their fights here. It's a catch and release type bot which isn't terribly fun to watch and when it's teeth dont get knocked out, they have to rely on flames, for the long shot win. As long as this design is what it is, it'll never be able to reach it's potential. it needs a drastic redesign, with a different type of weapon and armor that isn't so flimsy.

wish that battle bot arena changes terrain other than being perfectly flat. coz almost all design comes up on how to make the weapon or armor as close to the ground as possible. would love to see a rocky or desert-like terrain. terrain.

They should modify the kraken, instead of just blowing fire, they should put rotating disk inside the mount so that during clamping, your doing control and damage at the same time

I would give it more speed instead of the fire. It really did nothing at all. They had trouble aiming because the black dragon was driving forward to mess up their controls. If they were faster, I don't think they'd have had that problem, and the black dragon would've been destroyed.

This was a good power tussle but this should’ve been Kraken’s win, I really like Black Dragon but I didn’t see them winning this fight. Also Battlebots can you stop with the ten second preview at the beginning of each video. When the thumbnails are a good enough preview.

The Kraken is absolutely no joke. Congrats to Black Dragon (the rules require damage using their primary weapon, etc. It may be weird but the rules are public and known.)
