Blimey ... two British painting videos on the same day.... yourself and Sonic Sledgehammer... excellent

I love his videos, maybe the best on this site in my opinion, I wouldn’t have done this one if I’d known he’d just released one. Just noticed he’s just done a Comet tool, which is my next FOW one 😂, oh well.

@@MiniatureRealms Don't worry about it, you both have very different styles and it's great to see alternative methods.

Thank you. No I won’t worry too much.

Always amazed at the results you can get from contrast paints

Cheers dude, they certainly make base coating at this scale quick (aside from a coloured spray).

Very good. I use a 3-1 mix of Agaros Dunes and Garaghaks Sewer for the uniforms, makes a good English Uniform contrast paint substitute
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you. That’s sounds like a good mix, I’ll give it a try. I can imagine it does a great job of getting a close match without needing a highlight if you didn’t want to do it.

I contrast paint my 15mm WW2 and I love that you release these guides for nations I have not figured out schemes for (I am east front focused).
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you. I’m tempted to try and work out a speed version for most common nations/uniforms, using mostly only Contrast/Speedpaint etc. Maybe just in one video in the future. Right now I’m using it just to base coat where it can save some time and also be a good base to highlight from. What schemes have you been using for your Eastern Front armies?

These look great, you really got the green blancoed webbing look typical of 44-45 NW Europe

Thank you Mike, I really enjoyed doing these. I’m supposed to be doing some one of my many planned German forces next, but I’m also tempted to do these.

Love to hear how you do the bases
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Of course, it’s super simple and easy, just a few elements. Start with a layer of Vallejo Earth Texture - Dark Earth, once dry add a thin coat of Agrax Earthshade (enough to shade but not overly pool). I then brush in dry pigment, I use Vallejo Light Sienna on these bases. I find the trick here is to make sure the pigment gets into the crevices, even over the boots of the men. I blow away the excess, and what you’re left with is something closer to a more realistic earth than brown paint and a drybrush gets you, the pigment gives you more realised textures. After this I add 2mm tufts for this scale, I currently get mine from Warpaint Figures in the UK. Also then tend to add a few spots of Vallejo Thick Mud - European Mud. This stuff is more of a diorama effect than the ‘Earth Texture’ (which is more of a base layer). When applied thick it looks like wet mud, when used sparingly it looks less wet, so I add more if I want it to look wet etc, but find at this scale it just adds a little variation to the bases. Now that’s a lot of text and instruction, but each stage is super easy, and I find I prefer the look to the more old school pva/sand/paint/drybrush/add flock look.

contrast citadel is so expensive you are another fast paint for the historical history figures!
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
It’s quite expensive, but I find it goes a long way. Army Painter Speedpaint is cheaper and good, and I’m looking forward to trying Vallejo’s own version soon.

A more zoomed in view would be great. Miniature here is occupying less than 10% of the screen.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Yeah I get you, I have a lot more focus issues with my tech when I zoom in so tend to leave it more zoomed out. I will treat myself to a new lens one day. Appreciate the feedback though, it definitely could be better.

@@MiniatureRealms Got it. Great videos otherwise. I’d love to see more on dressing up Battlefront terrain. Are you accepting commissions?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you. Out of interest what sort of Battlefront terrain video? I didn’t have anymore planned after covering the roads and buildings, wasn’t sure I could stretch that angle any further, but open to ideas as they’re fun to do. Definitely still taking commissions, but very booked up next year, but a lot of that depends on the size and type of work. If you like to chat about something send me a message via one of my social media links or email, they’re all in the video description.

I’m very curious on the basing. What particular tufts did you use? I just never seem to get a mix that doesn’t detract from my painting.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
I’m using Warpaint Figures (UK) 2mm tufts most of the time right now, normally a mix of Dead Grass and Autumn.
@stetroma

Can i ask you where to find that white flowers? Im using standard shrubs from army painter but they are too big for this scale
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
I’ve had some for a while now, but I think these ones are from Warpaint figures, they do them to match all their tuft scales I think, so 2mm, 4mm and 6mm.
