This is the video I have been looking for. Finally getting round to painting my mid war Brits and I wanted to utilize contrast. Thank you. Subbed.

What I like is the African front coverage. I find it is somewhat under represented against the the Normandy campaigns. Great paint job my dude, keep it up!

Very interesting tutorial Stuart and the results are excellent! Looking forward to seeing more of your project. As an aside, have you ever painted 10mm historical figures? I’m just starting a Napoleonic project and am looking for tips, such as whether Zenithal would work with such small figures.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you. I’ve painted a few, mostly years ago now, but more recently some 10mm Wars of the Roses, there’s a few videos on the channel but no tutorial. I used the zenithal and contrast method on some of those, works well enough. If they’ve got good detail it will work well.

A good paint job but in my opinion these sculpts are really bad. The scale of the hands and the weapons looks really out of proportion as do the faces and the poses are really limited. The original metals are great and the Indians superb and I have these at battalion minus strengths at the moment so I have painted huge numbers. I got a whole load if these plastics and converted them to the Kings African rifles with head swaps and that worked ok but purely because they were selling at about five quid a platoon. Personally if you can paint and model you can make them ok but you can’t do much else with them and I did five platoons and weapons also with this force for British Somaliland. I look forward to seeing some content rather just paint tutorials or unboxing videos in which so many are putting up. Best wishes
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you. I quite like these sculpts, I prefer them to the older ones, but there is definitely less variety for sure. Sounds like you’ve done some great stuff with your projects. I’m afraid a lot of my content will be painting tutorials, it’s what I do, but there’s plenty of FOW battle reports out there, I may get around to that myself once day, but time won’t allow that for a while .

@@MiniatureRealms we don’t really do Fow as it doesn’t work for our wargames but our own stuff which is all about planning and tactical execution rather than a game of war with lists. We work in 15mm and build a lot of sets and stuff for the series. Detail, good figures and research is king..we are here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1IMyGV7_7qk.html iwhich may be of interest

Looks brilliant Stu. Can’t wait to see the rest with ur future vlogs 👍. As u know I am knee deep in my 15mm Nam project but in conjunction with this I was also doing a North Afrika campaign. I ordered and painted a load of British and afrika corps 3D breed figures and these are all painted. Unfortunately this has been at a standstill as ordered terrain and buildings from Etsy but seller let me down badly. Since then I have ordered more buildings from another source and waiting for them to continue this project. Can only hope mines look half as good as the masters 😜. Can’t wait for more from you on this project so keep up the brilliant work. Stevie

Perfect timing Stewart, I bought about 200 metal 15mm British figures in tropical uniform. They were badly painted so I've stripped them and plan to use some for Chain of Command in the desert. I think I'll follow your tutorial.

@@MiniatureRealms I got them at a shows bring and buy stall for £30.00 so no idea about maker but I would guess Peter Pig. I'm not starting to paint them until after Crack Con, I still have some soft to do on Kolwezi '78

PLEASE get rid of that cutting board with the crazy pattern of lines, squares and circles on it. It totally detracts from what ever you place on top of it for viewing.

When I next replace it I’m going to try a different colour, or maybe use a few different colours depending on what I’m painting.

Very nice looking Brits you have there Stuart. I remember painting flames of war miniatures on their bases back in the day but now I'd put them on popsicle sticks. Have fun with this project.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you. It’s definitely slightly easier to paint them off the base, but I find it bearable this way, and less faff for a lazy man like me 😂

Thanks for the video. I really have to paint more historic miniatures. Can i suggest a topic for a future tutorial ? I really would like to see how you would paint british airborne for bolt action in your contrast + highlight style.

Thank you. I’ll add that idea to my list of requests, it might not be something you see in the short term (as it’s not a planned project/have the models needed to make it a quick video), but I’ll certainly keep it in mind.

Flames of War.. i played from the end of 1st Ed and all through 2nd Ed.. Was thinking about coming back again - but it seems like.. it got dumbed down and GW-fied? Troops seems scarce and everyone is maxing support.. But maybe I´m wrong?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
I haven’t played the earlier editions, but I have heard that criticism. There are definitely better games for historical accuracy, and I’ve definitely seen ‘parking lot’ tank formations, but I rarely play any games competitively, and definitely don’t play historical games in that way, so I guess I avoid much of that.
@ja37d-34
@ja37d-34 Год назад
@@MiniatureRealms That actually bugged me in those editions too. tanks touching each other.. I never did that myself but i understand why you saw that.. Got reminded now.. :) But it is more the lists.. I could look at the rules i guess.. My buddy is trying to get me into Chain of Command instead. Yeah, I played ina couple of tornies, did okay and had fun. But i prefer more scenario based stuff too. in Warhhammer too. "Competetive" can become too much and some people have trouble not being assholes. My view is that games like Warhamemr are not balanced and therefor it is pointless taking tournie play seriously. Have a few beer, talk shit, joke, have fun. That´s it. :)

I’ve heard great things about Chain of Command and O Group, will get around to trying them one day. I’m definitely in the hobby for the miniatures and history/lore, the game is important, but I will often go for how enjoyment/entertainment over crunch or realism (especially if the rules are easier to remember. Competitive games interest me as a spectator, but not so much for historical games. I’d happily go to a Warhammer Tournament and hang around the bottom tables, but equally love a big narrative game at home. For historicals I almost always choose a laid back game.

Chain of Command and O Group are both great. Far more realistic than almost any other WW2 games on the market, and both fun and challenging to play. CoC can be tricky to get the hang of at first but there are some excellent tutorials and playthroughs here on youtube. Personally, I’d rate Flames of War as beginner level only. Doesn’t give a satisfactory game if you know anything about WW2. The good thing, though, is with a few minor adjustments you can play CoC and O Group with the same minis.
