Absolutely. The Gloucestershire regiments have a distinguished history as well, providing opportunities to do similar in many periods. It’s a nice change to be able to to support the county, as a man with Somerset heritage 😆.

Swanky tanks Stu. Love the way you balance effort verses effect. Totally hit the zenith of that table-top effort level of less graft more craft. The results are stunning.

Thanks for the video. Even so you will not plkay them at the event, i really would like to see how you would paint tanks and infantry for DAK.

They’re definitely on my paint list, I’ve got a decent start to the army to oppose the British as well, so will mostly likely happen one day.

Good old Desert Rats, good stand by. Nice to see you are following a local regiment. You'll change the list again and still run things close to CC in October.

Excellent looking tanks Stuart. I'm a big fan of oil washes and using oil paint for the dot filter technique but I dont know if it will work on smaller miniatures I use that method on scale model kits.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you 😊. I’ve not used dot filter much, definitely keep it simpler at this scale, very much slap it on as you can see here 😂, but you can definitely get some of the effects that work at larger scales.
@nordicmaelstrom4714
@nordicmaelstrom4714 Год назад
@@MiniatureRealms Oh definitely. The dot filter is great for mono color vehicles and provides an easy modulation of color. The pin washes is an excellent detailing part as well.

...any miniature worth its sa[u]lt (or Ney) should realistically paint itself. You just have to tickle it with a brush and tint it right over a firm foundation (Zenithal prime anyone)? Also agreeing with Stuart; airbrushes can do so much heavy lifting. Often producing effects by accident that can make your miniatures look lit and become a new recipe.

Where did you get the digital army builder app please? I’ve checked the Battlefront website, but can’t seem to find it. Partly thanks to your tutorial I have taken the plunge and bought two starter sets for North Africa, Armoured Fist and the Afrika Korps. My first venture into FoW! Please keep the superb tutorials coming. Cheers Keith
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Hi Keith, I can’t link it directly as RU-vid will just delete the message. The Battlefront website has loads of good old stuff for reference, but it’s really hard to find stuff sometimes when you want to, especially something that should probably have a huge link on the main page. If you search Forces Flames of War via the search engine of your choice it should be first hit.

H Stuart. I’m just following this tutorial .Can I ask please what you use to clean your brush after applying the masking solution? Thanks Keith
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 7 месяцев назад
Hi Keith, I tend to use rubber clay shapers to paint on the liquid mask, it then just peals straight off once dry. If I use a brush I usually throw it away as they don’t really wash out well. I haven’t used a brush in a while for it now, not sure if I did in this video, but if I did it would have been an old one.
@theenigmaticgamer
@theenigmaticgamer 7 месяцев назад
@@MiniatureRealms Thanks Stuart. I’ll check out some clay shapers as I have ended up chucking the brush away🤣 As an aside I also left the masking solution on too long while I went for a walk, only to find I couldn’t get it off when I returned about 30mins later. The instructions did say not to”leave it on for a long time” , but didn’t define “long”. Luckily I had only applied it to some tyres and after a bit of scratching to remove it I ended up painting the tyres again anyway🙄.Next time I’ll just wait until it’s dry then paint and remove.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 7 месяцев назад
@theenigmaticgamer That doesn’t sound right at all, what brand are you using, you should be able to leave in on for ages, I’ve had some stuff left on for weeks and it comes off easily. Of anything sometimes 30mins isn’t enough for it to fully set and dry for use.

Looking good matey. Other Infantry tanks are available.😂👀 How do you feel bases for vehicles for FoW?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you 😊 …The particular tank you reference is. Not currently covered in FOW, doesn’t fall into Mid War. I’m not a fan of bases on tanks myself, not offended by it either though, each to their own.
@MrBlackear
@MrBlackear Год назад
@MiniatureRealms That is a surprise, but I feel you might have told me that already. I did think Matildas were still in use in the mid war period along side Crusaders. Unless BF have re-organises what they consider the dates for early and mid war to be. Might have to have a look through the old FoW books over the weekend, just for curiosities sake. I liked bases as i felt like they added something to the smaller scale figures, although it did make them more toy like and less realistic. Doesn't look as good on later scale kits. A bit of a reference for measuring never hurt them beingbin bases in my eyes either.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
They’ve not really done anything with early war for the whole of the edition, so I think we will see them again once they do that. I guess there’s always crossover periods where early becomes mid etc, and that will be covered then.
@MrBlackear
@MrBlackear Год назад
@MiniatureRealms They've never really done anything with the early war stuff. When was playing regularly it was mostly mid war with a light smattering of exploring late war. From a gaming and specifically the mechanics of FoW the mid war period was the better period to play. Late war was okay, but I always felt there was potentially more interesting things tomcome from the early war period. Very really did you see a Panzer 2 in mid war, and the early Panzer 3's always felt a little under gunned in the mid war period. Which is a shame as they are my favourite tank. Maybe this is a symptom of playing at events and in a competitive manner. The games were definitely better when played "in period".
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
I get the impression that events seem to be in period now, they have also added ‘Dynamic’ points for Mid War, so if you use the online builder you can choose between standard ‘book points’ and dynamic, which is adjusted for greater balance.

Got to say that none of this is proper to me. I get it from the Oil wash thing. The approach is almost cultural, but the cost, extra time and final product is not worth it. But as I said, that is basically personal choice as to whether or not to involve oils and spirits and the need to use multiple levels of varnish. What I find an actual problem is the failure to paint in the detail like the cables which were working tools and would never reflect the paint job or hold paint. The same for the other tools or the road wheels which have black rubber in their rims. Further, though this is not as certain, the hot exhaust would not hold the colour of the camo' either. So to me the paint job is a little lazy. But small scale and big army means you got to invest some time yet in the army you are assembling.
