The Original Nursery Rhyme
January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.
February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.
March brings breezes sharp and shrill,
Shakes the dancing daffodil.
April brings the primrose sweet,
Scatters daisies at our feet.
May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
Skipping by their fleecy dams.
June brings tulips, lillies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.
Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots and gillyflowers.
August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.
Warm September brings the fruit,
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.
Brown October brings the pheasant,
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.
Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves go whirling past.
Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire and Christmas treat.
The F & S Version:
January brings the snow
Makes your feet and fingers glow.
February's ice and sleet
Freeze the toes right off your feet.
Welcome March with wint'ry wind
Would thou wert not so unkind.
April brings the sweet Spring showers
On and on for hours and hours.
Farmers fear unkindly May
Frost by night and hail by day.
June just rains and never stops
Thirty days and spoils the crops.
In July the sun is hot.
Is it shining? No, it's not.
August, cold and dank and wet,
Brings more rain than any yet.
Bleak September's mist and mud
Is enough to chill the blood.
Then October adds a gale
Wind and slush and rain and hail.
Dark November brings the fog
Should not do it to a dog.
Freezing wet December; then
Bloody January again!

Brilliant description of the vagaries of the English climate. I lived through it for 30 years before emigrating to New Zealand, where we have many similarities to the English climate but here in the upper North Island, it's warmer rain and fewer frosts.

My parents had the LP's of this marvelous duo, At the Drop of a Hat and ...Another Hat. Then the Bestiary album! Their wit and humour are unequaled. My favorites are The Slow Train and The Armadillo. " Never tell a man the truth about the one that he adores. " Absolutely brilliant lyrics with Swann's melodic accompaniment.

This August (2017) was described by the Met Office as the coldest for 30 years. Last August was the wettest for 30 years. I believe that every August is the worst for 30 years.

Yep. A day of all weather in the 1950's 3 months of snow in the 60's. These days get 3 weeks of snow people go 'Ermagerd! Globul warmin'!' not saying it isn't there but half the climate change 'effects' is just what we call barmy British weather.

This isn't humour.. it's accurate :-) We had a Texan over recently for a conference, during his first 2 hour spot we had a clear blue sky, then hail, then a brisk gale, followed by a another patch of sun culminating in torrential rain. When he started exclaiming about this weather, we warned him we'd booked snow for the afternoon.

A song climate scare mongers should be made aware of. We don't have freak weather, we have freaky weather, every year. It's part of or defence strategy. Kept the romans at bay for a while

I think it was colder fifty years ago in winter. I remember going to school and in the term - January to March it invariably snowed a bit and was frosty. Games were often canceled as the outdoor pitches were too hard. I lived in South London and the buses would struggle to get up Denmark Hill SE.22. Now it's 2020 and we get lots more rain instead of snow.
