This video is really well-crafted! I really like how you worked the footage of you ironing the fabric into the middle of the video and used that as your opportunity to talk about your sponsor, rather than stopping your part of the video to talk exclusively about the sponsor product. It kept it visually engaging while still advertising the audiobox thing. And the integration of the playalong track at the end tied it all together really well. Great work!!
I've got to say: the drum sound you're getting here in your new studio is just wonderful to listen to! Even with minimal processing, everything just sounds quite pleasant; it cuts through the backing track nicely too. LOVE IT!
My favorite snare from your snares is either the one you’re using in this video, or the hammered shell one. I️ just love the quickness in it, overtones just don’t sound good in snares at all to me.
@@clearestapricotpencil4125 that has always sounded like a metal trash can to me. Never understood why someone of that level would settle for such a bad sound.
@@keithcannon4443 fully agree on that one, and then for their next album, they turned the drums up so loud that they were constantly clipping and were just like "yeah it sounds good, drop it"
It's fun to watch your videos man. I might not do some of the stuff you do, but it's nice to see you sharing ideas and having the cojones to dig into stuff. In the last 20 years or so, I have found that playing on and with drums is almost as much fun as playing in bands. I have built several drum kits, snares, and modified hardware, much in the same way you do and it's a blast. It can get a little spendy, but, well, some guys spend all their mad money on guns, motorcycles, fishin' stuff... for people like me, and obviously you, it's round things that you hit for fun. Yay! And thanks for posting these. I just binged about 12 of your vids while I was putting a finish on a pair of 28" bass drum hoops. Black with silver sparkle, wet 3k grit sanding and Meguiars clear coat polish... Beautious!
Around a decade ago I customized my kits with fur and various fabric. I had a flannel drum kit with fabric wrapped on the bass and toms (not typical red and black flannel, squares tho. it was warm yellows, oranges, burnt red, and various square patterns.. really indie. it looks legit) I also have a thick cow fur set in black, white, and brown. I used to get compliments on its tone and look all the time. You have to do it right unless it'll dampen too much, but with the right heads and tuning for the sound your going for it has a very warm thick sound with just enough resonance and decay. over time it became my go to for tracking drums. I used all classical drum heads. It has a slingerland type sound. I may go back and start playing again. I thought I'd never quit recording music but I just fell out of it. Shit happens.
Dave, it just looks terrific and gives it a great muffle. Red Buffalo print is so “for the ladies,” right now. Your a genius! Nice tracks, great groove, and as always your vids are so much fun.
Seeing the folder over porthole fabric, I would be cool to see this done in reverse, a background of faded plaid with a plaid sun around the port hole or any other additions. It looked sweet from behind.
Here's another one of those, "Hey, I thought about doing that!" But never did.... Great job rdavidr! It looks great and sound wonderful. In time, there will no longer be any plain Reso heads, and then we'll say, "See what you started!" Nice job!!!
100k Man!! Congrats!! Ive been a big fan of your videos over the past year and a half and have used many of your tips. Theyve all been extremely helpful and have overall made my drumming experience better! Thank you for being such a help, and congratulations on the following you have gained because of it! Can't wait to see what you can conjure up for hitting this crazy milestone!
