When a combustible vapor ignites, the result is either a flash fire or a vapor cloud explosion, also known as VCE. At the Wilfred E. Baker Test Facility (WEBTF), BakerRisk built two test rigs to demonstrate the difference between these two types of hazards. As you can see, the flash fire rig (left) is fairly empty while the VCE rig (right) contains several vertical pipes, which acts as congestion similar to process piping and equipment.
