"Mommy, why does everybody have a BOMB..." Only Prince could write and produce one of the greatest party anthems of all time about the fear of nuclear war. At the time of its release the threat of nuclear war was palpable in the early 80s. As kids we were all SPOOKED that Russia and the US were going to wipe everyone off the map. Prince was tapped into all of that.

I so remember that time, I was so scared! Look at us now, right back here again :sigh: Fantastic song though, I loved the reaction! Prince has been my number one since I was 12, 2 years later Purple Rain was released…there was never a day I doubted him! 💜

Fantastic song. So good it doesn't matter the year. Multi talented artist. Singer, songwriter, plays a variety of instruments, one of the best guitarist ever, a mentor, dancer, entertainer and had his own style with whatever he did. There are so many songs in the catalog its tough to pick but as good as his big time radio hits were, there are a ton of amazing songs that never hit the airwaves. Feel fortunate I got to see him one time live a few years before his passing....best concert ive ever seen, 2 hours of non stop musical medley of most of his hits

"Let's go crazy," would be a good one to do next from Prince, also Incubus does a 🔥 cover of that one too. Plus please don't sleep on Incubus: so many really great songs from those guys.

@UCDPD12cZKrbGfX_2oYvH1Eg Well...as far back as Incubus goes from my perspective, I first discovered & fell in love with their album titled Make Yourself. I could listen to the whole thing front to back & put it on repeat. I then very quickly went out & got their previous album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. & Was astounded to find out that I liked that one just as much. So naturally when Morning View came out I quickly snatched that one up as well, & wouldn't you know it...more ear candy🤗... There's a reason that they have a greatest hits Album called Monuments & Melodies (which is where you'll find the Prince cover BTW)... So I may recommend beginning with more off of Make Yourself, since that was what more people are familiar with being their more commercially successful album, but don't sleep on S.C.I.E.N.C.E. either. It is a Heavier sound than Make Yourself or Morning View or A crow left of the murder (which was actually their fifth album as they had another previous to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. called The Fungus Among Us). Now I'm not really a big fan of that one as I feel they were really still kind of experimenting with their sound at the time) Anyway, I hope you do go on a deep dive into their music & "Enjoy Incubus" (Pun intended actually, B/C I actually almost forgot about their second E.P. by that title, which would make A crow left of the murder their sixth.) They also had three songs on the "Stealth" movie soundtrack too. Plus it may surprise you to know they also covered Big Pun as well (no pun intended) 🤣

I remember when this song came out everyone played the shit out of it. My cousin she had the record and played it all the time. At that time I was jamming to Iron Maiden's album The Number of the Beast. Can't beat Prince and Iron Maiden it the 80's. Good Times the 80's.

One tiny thing that made me sad while Prince (my alltime favourite solo male artist in music,and in many ways "the true king of pop",for me at least) was alive,was that he would stop performing 1999 after New Years Eve 1999. He mentioned something about the song had lost its full meaning to him. He was thinking of maybe re-writing the lyrics,but i dont think such a song was ever released. He just moved on from it pretty much. Princes message to all the ladies out there: I got a lion in my pocket,and baby its ready to RAWR! Gee,i wonder what that means,coming from a guy that wrote Get Off,I Wanna Be Your Lover,Darling Nikki etc. I feel under dressed looking at you 2,i started to believe that it was the holidays already!

He continued to perform 1999. ☺️ I think the last time I saw him perform it was 2014 or 2015. And he did re-release it. Check out the 1999 New Master album with Rosie Gaines, Larry Graham, and Doug E. Fresh on it. 🔥🔥

Prince was likely raised as a Seventh Day Adventist. “Can’t run from Revelation”. “I’ve got a lion in my pocket, and baby he’s ready to roar”. In the Book of Revelation the Lion of Judah is a symbol for the return of Christ, but he's probably just talking about his dong, or maybe both and it's a bar. 🤣

I was in Minnesota for the Millenia. 1999 My husband and I hadn't seen each other for 3 weeks. He had been finishing up in Waco. Then he was joining me in Westbrook, Mn. We were changing our stars. We lived hard lives in Texas, separately. We had only been together 3 years then. We weren't married either. I was, 35 he was 49 . People would ask him if he ever heard of Sam Elliot or seen any of his movies, he got asked that alot. Yes, he looked like Sam Elliot. Think cowboy biker Sam. Lol anyway I digress 🤣🤣 Way off subject. 1999 We fell asleep watching, or were trying to bring in the New Year. Made it all the way to 10:00. 😮 sad isn't it. It was a great day though. Leon passed away New Years Eve 2019. 😢😢 He was 69, and I was 55. The one thing I've noticed most since he's been gone is, there's really not alot of men out there. Not like Leon. So, I guess I'm gonna need to get back down to Texas and find one who wants to live in the country in Minnesota. If it wasn't for my drop biscuits, sausage gravy and the fact that he did love me he wouldn't of moved here. Yes it's cold. But no more cold than it's hot in Texas. Nov. To the end of March it's cold here. April til Nov. It's frikkin hot in Texas. Want to talk about this summer down there. Lol. 1996 was the last time it was thet hot. 69 days straight of 100 degree heat with no rain. How Many days did yall get this year. Wow.. Should of seen the snow in my front yard last winter. Lol I babble on too much. Oh well God bless yall ✌️✌️ & ❤❤
