1983 will always be a most precious memory for me. It was the year I met my husband and we had almost 36 wonderful years together before he passed away.😔💔
I graduated in 1983 but didn't join the Air Force till 1985 and was at Lackland AFB on October 1st to I believe November 14th ° awesome memories of the 80s ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've had dreams where I go back to 1982, 1983- when I was 9, 10 years old. All my friends are there. One of these nights, when I have one of those dreams again, I'm not coming back.
I do think the views on this channel might be even higher with Life in America fads, movies, toys, then, etc Those are the things people remember about their youth and they are things that often hold personal meaning beyond just being a thing. The news stories might not really stick to our memory because they didn’t touch us and the horrible tragedies we might intentionally have chosen to forget but we remember the things that we lived - our toy, favorite movie, what we looked like, what we were doing as a trend. This is what memories are made of and these things are the trip. Agreed
I too was 10. We’ll I turned 11 in December of 83. I’ve been loving looking back at all these videos and the videos of Christmas in the 70’s and 80’s. I’m really feeling nostalgic these days and also wish these could be longer and we could see more fads and toys of the years.
1983 was probably the most fascinating year of the decade for the pop music scene. Besides Michael Jackson, we witnessed sort of a second British invasion led by the debut of Culture Club, Duran Duran and the Eurythmics, and a big comeback for David Bowie, along with the Police's "Every Breath You Take" dominating the airwaves that summer. This also happens to be the year I graduated from high school. Shout out to my fellow classmates from Bishop Fenwick! God Bless you all!
I've said it for years, 1983 was the greatest year for music in my lifetime (born in '70), maybe one of the greatest ever. So many iconic albums came out that year.
Small correction: The Beirut embassy bombing on 18 April killed 17 Americans. 241 US Marines were killed later that year in the bombing of their barracks in Beirut on 23 October.
Yes, thanks for telling me that b/c I didn't think it was in April b/c a classmate of mine was killed in the bombing and I went to the funeral. Don't believe people that say life is fair b/c that same kid that died in Beirut had his parents murdered and left for dead while he and his sister were left alone w/ the dead bodies until the police discovered what happened days later. He ended up being adopted by a religious family and was bullied all through High School. Talk about a short, rough life.
Jim Thorpe is my home town. We are so proud to have him here, in a beautiful final resting place. His athletic prowess seemed to know no bounds, and he is a remarkable example of the miracles of the human form and of how to overcome cruelty and adversity with focus and determination.
My father knew his daughter. She took a Dale Carnegie course in the 1970's that he taught so she could develop her public speaking skills. She was working towards getting her father's medals reinstated even that far back.
In Columbus Ohio there was a n apartment with Jim thorp's name I was proud it was there a few years ago I went by it and it and his name wasn't there, I hope it is just a glitch in the matrix
@@kitcoffey7194 It's funny, JT was the town my blue-collar family moved to when we were priced out of very modest homes in neighboring school districts by people fleeing NY & NJ in the 1980s. Gentrification is helping to preserve our wonderful history and homes, but at an unsustainable price for those of us who didn't bring Manhattan money with us. But please visit when you can! Our natural beauty is priceless, even if the homes are over priced!
Thank you once again for sharing this piano arrangement. It truly is the most beautiful I've heard. In 1983, my precious daughter was born, and we almost lost her as a SIDS kid. She is a beautiful and wonderful as the piano arrangement. Thank you so much for this effort
Our beautiful daughter was also born in 1983. She is now a happy mom of two busy children and wife to our great son in law. So very thankful your daughter overcame and flourished. I also enjoy the piano piece .
You have finally reached THE year for me. College graduation and my team NC State as a Cinderella team winning the NCAA basketball championship. We had a large group in our dorm watching the MASH finale. My young sister and niece loved Thriller. A bar I knew of played it via laser disc. Its sad we've become 1984 in 2021.
Also in 1983: "Sale of the Century" premiered on NBC. Plinko debuted on "The Price Is Right" NC State upset Houston on a game winning dunk in the 1983 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship game. "Weird Al" Yankovic released his first album. "Dragon's Lair" was released in arcades. Huey Lewis and the News releases "Sports", which spawned several top 10 hits. "A Christmas Story" is released.
The year I graduated from high school and began college. I remember the very next day after I graduated was the opening of Return of the Jedi. We went early to stand in line early at the theater.
Another great video! I Always enjoy them . One thing you might've left out . The ABC TV drama The Day After that was broadcast on November 20 ,1983 . I know there's only so much you can squeeze in one video

Thank you vary much for all of the videos you put together. Myself and wife really enjoy. I was born in 1964 and the videos that you do make me feel like I am right their again in that moment of time yes time we will not get back but can remember and relive them little moments in time... Thank you and please keep the videos coming!
Watching this while looking at the game winning home run ball I hit in the little league championship that year. Moved to a new city and met some of the best friends in my life. This year really started the best parts of my life.
1983 was unforgettable to me because of my participation in REFORGER 1983, and the ABLE ARCHER excercise. We were at DEFCON 4 and nearly went to war against the Warsaw Pact / Soviet Union.
Also in 1983… The Disney Channel was launched on cable and satellite television as a premium service. “The Day After” the most watched and controversial made for TV movie aired on ABC.
1970s tv stars survivors in 1983 Michael Landon (47) Jaclyn smith (38) John Davidson (42) Farrah Fawcett (36) Valerie Harper (44) Lee majors (44) Mary Tyler Moore (47) Jack lord (63) Tony Randall (63)
I love these Recollection Road videos and a combination of years, restaurants, business, and other nostalgia. I think one major event from 1983 that got missed in the video though, was the Korean Airlines flight 007 that just shot down over Soviet airspace in September. That was a pretty major international event. Anyway, thanks for the work on the videos and continued additions!
I live just a few miles from that first ever Hooters. It's been completely remodeled in recent years, but it's still there. For a wing place though, their wings really aren't that great. But I do love their tater tots. 😂
I was living in Germany that year. I remember how ubiquitous American soldiers were in West Germany. One time I stopped at an autobahn roadhouse and it was packed with American officers. In Düsseldorf I used to listen to British Armed Forces Radio. It all built up to Able Archer late in the year, with mass demonstrations across Europe and a war scare as the Soviets mobilized in response.
Yes ha that’s right! Able Archer was seen by the Russians as a buildup to an invasion iirc. I was stationed in Germany 1985. Did you ever watch the German miniseries Deutschland 83? Very well done and based on those events.
Also in 1983… $ale of the Century hosted by Jim Perry premiered on NBC. The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour hosted by Gene Rayburn and Jon Bauman premiered on NBC.
For cars, this was the lemon era, when you often would hear "They don't make cars like they used to." At that time, our family had a 1973 Chevy impala, by which time that time was having issues, mainly because we could not keep it serviced properly. Whenever we had to take it to the shop, the mechanic would tell us that many newer cars were coming in repeatedly, and that they were in worse shape than ours was, despite the fact that our car was 10 years old. Even The best built cars would start having issued if you failed to have them properly serviced.
I was in my 2nd and 3rd college semesters in 1983. I remember a large group of us watched the MASH series finale in our dorm main lounge and cried at the end. I also watched the world premiere of Thriller in the sorority house den in the dark. It was awesome!
semi good year for me. turned 21 but my mother was in a serious car accident that crushed both her legs. went through serious highs and lows that year. got my first office job as a bank teller. haven't worked in a bank since .
I so remember 1983 and I so enjoyed all the videos and music of Michael jackson! His thriller video and all the dancing of the zombies was outstanding! To this day I still have a sticker album that I made back then with a sticker of his glove and also some Michael Jackson stickers. Michael Jackson was a really good performer and very talented singer, especially in the early years of the 1980s!
Also in 1983: The Man Who Loved Women starring Burt Reynolds and Julie Andrews came out in December. Speaking of, TAXI ended earlier that year after five seasons, including it's final and only one on NBC. The memorable episode of Sesame Street focusing on the death of Mr. Hooper premiered on November 24. (The) Disney Channel premiered on April 18. The PBS show Reading Rainbow premiered on June 6. And while not an overly important detail, the infamously banned Mister Rogers' Neighborhood week on Conflict premiered on November 7-11.
Turned 18 in 1983. My mother and father went on their first big vacation to Jamaica. Their plane was flying over Cuba when the USA was invading Grenada where Cuban troops were on the ground.
I was in the third grade and then the fourth. I learned how to write ✍️ in cursive and signed my name for the first time. And The A-Team was one of my favorite shows back then.
Wowsers, Ronnie Parker, wowsers!!! Thirteen years later on February the twenty-eighth, 1996, Kiss's four original members had decided to put on their traditional signature kabuki makeup and became the late Tupac Shakur's co-presenters and all-time homeboys at the 1996 Grammy Awards in Hollywood, California. Wow!!! Talk about the return of the four original long-haired kabuki guys are at their very best!!! Wowsers!!!
I remember watching Thriller for the first time, which scared me so much, being only three... and admittedly, the werewolf transformation part still does. I remember the buzz after Motown 25 too. I also remember that Care Bears were THE toy that year. 83 was a fun year. The whole decade was a blast! A great blend of wholesome and fun! We didn't take ourselves too seriously back then.
Ronald Reagan was president ° Dallas was the top night time soap ° Diana Downs was introduced to the nation (somethings you just can't forget no matter how hard you try)
I was a junior in high school the first half of the year, and a senior the last 3 months. Even though I didn't watch the news, of the events mentioned, I remember the M.A.S.H. finale, the Michael Jackson moonwalk, the Beirut bombing, me and Dad watched The Return of the Jedi, Sally Ride, living in Trenton, Florida, at the time, I believe me and dad walked outside to watch the space shuttle take off that night, and who could forget the ever ridiculous Sally Jesse Raphael show? I also remember the 'Thriller' video on MTV at my friend's house, but we should also remember the great music releases of that year, including Cyndi Lauper/She's So Unusual, Def Leppard /Pyromania, Dio/ Holy Diver, Iron Maiden/Piece of Mind, Huey Lewis/ Sports, Motley Crue /Shout at the Devil, ZZ Top/ Eliminator, U2/War, Stevie Nicks/ The Wild Heart.
Ronald Reagan was the first President I could vote for, He was an Incredible President and his wife an Incredible First Lady Nancy Reagan As a 20 year volunteer for the Military Veterans and Their Families Law Enforcement Firefighters EMTs First Responders Public Safety and Their Families great when Our Nation's Heroes are truly Supported by Politicians
