A lot of movies try to do action as seen here and just don’t do anything close. It helps to have guys like Yen on board, but unless you’re doing a martial arts film, that cast can take you only as far as the physical stuff here. Many films simply don’t have great choreography like this one. Takes more moving parts than it seems to make this work.
i think only real martial arts/ action fans will truly appreciate this fight scene. It's so underrated and easily in top 10 of best fight scene of ALL TIME.
I can’t describe how hard this scene is for me to watch in its entirety without pausing nd replaying something, just to appreciate the beauty that is this fight scene
@@legendsaysrtzisstillfarmin7021 the fact that you Ls need to spam comments about The Raid in every fighting scenes on RU-vid shows that how insignificant The Raid is.
There was an undercover cop that got snatched by the Vietnamese gangsters. Then there is this supercop that has been trying to arrest this gang but nobody could touch them because of influence. Basically cops vs gangsters.
To someone who hasn’t watched the movie, it looks like Donnie Yen’s character won by using takedowns, superior ground game and just fighting harder, because in the first half of the fight, Colin’s character clearly has more speed and power and ferocity, but later Donnie’s character starts hitting faster and more ferociously.
One of donnie's best. Ip man series was great, but I felt like some of the fights in the movies were a bit "slower" between hits so it seemed like hesitation and less synchronized. Here, donnie and colin just going at it full speed with no noticeable pauses in between. Insane fight sequences!
I'm not trying to take anything away from the scene because it's incredible and an astonishing job by the performers, but surely they speed up some of the close contact footage by even a meagre percentage?
@@johnnyhunter Oh for sure they did. I have no doubt Donnie and Colin definitely are fast themselves, but Hong Kong definitely speeds up their action films.
@@johnnyhunter Opinions differ on this subject. I personally prefer a little speed-up in fight scenes. Real speed on camera can sometimes be boring with little to no intensity and excitement
Donnie Yen's MMA skills were at their peak in this movie The Ip Man movies are legendary but i will always prefer Donnie Yen's modern action movies like Flash Point and Raging Fire
wow 0:39 looked like seoi-nage but grabbing leg 0:42 side control 0:47 spitting armbar/ armbar 1:12 triangle choke 3:13 tackle 4:01 seoi-nage 4:07 harai-goshi 4:09 tomoe nage 4:13 ippon seoi nage 5:04 kani-basami(forbidden in judo) or scissor throw. 5:07 looked like leg-lock 5:10 heel hook 5:19 suplex 5:26 flying triangle/sankaku jime 5:35 hadaka jime/ choke using collar 5:40 rear naked choke 6:00 seoi-nage back carry 7:00 rear naked choke correct me, if I am wrong, I am sure there would be mistakes.
Because it’s just…. Boring. People like and enjoy seeing art forms and not just fighting all the time. Like the world knows that mma is practical okay but leave that in the damn ring. Martial arts CINEMA. Is about making fights look cool and witnessing like wing chun and stuff is pretty cool.
he still did in raging fire, instead of kung fu (that's why he mentioned ip man 4 will be his last kung fu movie), he always prefer realistic street fight
@@ripp3rjak934 MMA or practical styles can also be made to look good onscreen. Why restrict fight scenes to just one style when you can do many others?
@@ripp3rjak934 except now directors made it look good and interesting with the rise of MMA. Films that bolster realistic martial arts and gun fights with good long shot camera works make a very huge impact. One such example is johnwick.
@@vletjemandem506the raid movies are phenomenal, but the fight scenes and choreography in flash point are levels above anything the raid has created, with maybe a couple of exceptions
These guys are putting in such great performances here, credit due to both, big time. Also, can we give big thanks for the people behind this putting ambient tense music rather than a blaring orchestra?!
I think this fight scene was really put together, specially with all the grappling and jiu jitsu put together in this masterpiece all the striking was on point nice👍
This movie is the OG and the beginning of modern fight choreography. Imagine in 1:12 Donnie could have finished the fight with the Triangle Choke if he hooks under Collin's leg to prevent the slam
While I found the movie underwhelming, Donnie Yen basically being an MMA fight makes this so good. Props to Colin for sure but damn, I love seeing Donnie bust out all these take downs and grappling techniques.
If thats the case I would say John Wick dont stand a chance, especially when his most impressive gun techniques were somewhat neutralized by bullet-proof suits.
OMG!! The fliming of this was either so genius or they were actually hitting eachother, full force lol I LOVE DONNIE YEN. This makes my love for him even stronger lol
Watch the movie RRR It's a "TOLLYWOOD" movie... fight scenes are world-class... the story is amazing, and the CGI is up there with any Marvel movie as far as "super hero" movies !!! Absolutely a must-see!
Don't know how many times I've seen this; always come back to it. One of my all time favorites. I know it's well choreographed, but it can't have been pain-free. Love how they have little pauses as they would naturally be tired and reeling from the blows in a real fight. Donnie's and Collin's expressions are convincing. Other films where actors keep hitting each other but you see no blood or pain are so boring. Not that I enjoy seeing blood. You can over do it ; (Ninja Assassin, cough... Even Bi/Rain seemed a bit embarrassed and laughing about that in interviews.😂)
When this movie came out i said this scene will be the text book for all action movies in the future. I remember watching this movie with pure rage for the bad guy. Wanted so bad for donnie to whoop his ass. This movie didn't disappoint me.
I'm sorry but John wouldn't make it. Idc what you say. Not to mention that Donnie's more dangerous if he uses an weapon on you, which cuts down your life to absolute zero.
This and Killzone were Donnie Yen’s big comebacks I say that because he tried the Hollywood thing only to play minor to villain roles never playing the leading man but in 2005 he made his comeback in Kill Zone then eventually this these two jams shows us the real and true Donnie Yen The Ultimate Tai Chi Master. These two films would lead Donnie Yen to the IP Man franchise.
@@realdealmind01 MJW's Blood and Bone fight scenes has over 17 million views and was uploaded in 2021. This one was uploaded in 2018 and only has 200k views. Donnie's IP Man fight scenes has 22 million views but that was uploaded in 2016. I know MJW is underrated actor but he got the most views.
@@TranceEternality An actor's popularity ain't only restricted to youtube. It's all about cinema, and movie streaming services. Donnie's movies are more accessable anywhere other than clips from his movies on youtube
Rewatching this fight scene after watching Road House(2021) just to see how Donnie Yen put together a better mma fight scene than the movie with Connor McGregor in it 🤦🏾♂️ This is one of the best fight scenes of all time, especially if you’re an mma fan.
