Zim, your videos are simply fantastic! I wanted to learn all of these for years, and never started since never knew how to get start with it... But you made everything so simple and easy!! Keep going man, looking forward to more videos about illustration design!! Thanks buddy!!! :D
dude keep the videos coming, you're so good at explaining things clearly, it's been huge in my progression with Illustrator. Thank you so much!! I was wondering if you could do some tutorials for some of the logistical things (like how to change artboard colors, how to make new color swatches, etc.), especially the best file export settings (particularly for web). Thanks for considering, keep it up!! Cooper
I love these videos. I'm learning so much and your commentary actually has me laughing out loud at times. :-) I'm excited for this series with Gary and Jonas! Bring it on!
raschica Hey Raschica. hahah why thank you! I'm super glad they've been helpful for you. Yeah I guess we'll find out what happens with Gary and Jonas :P
I feel bad not discovering your channel long ago! this is dope, Zim! Will also appreciate if you provided a link to your color pallet in the upcoming videos as I had to create mine in 5 mins for this video. Keep up the good work!
You've just earned a sub :) awesome tutorials, and you seem to be a fun dude! keep it up. Btw, may i know what that icon next to your Chrome is? looks like a color palette.
***** Hey Daniel, that definitely looks like a color palette, but it's actually the, "chrome application launcher." I've never used it, but I might start now! haha Thanks for the comment man, it's really nice.
Someone haha hey! Recently I started planning a series of videos about branding a company. I think i'll be done with the first episode soon :P Thanks for keeping me on it!
Pathfinder gives me trouble sometimes, but usually it's because I have the wrong shape on top, or the wrong shape below. I have to check to make sure that the layers are correct :)
Hey Zim - How do you paste in the colours you're going to use efficiently? I was just taking a bunch of small srceenshots and pasting them in but it was taking forever, just wondered if you had a better way.
+Tom Nash Hey tom, for most of my flat design tutorials I go to flatuicolors.com and take a screen shot of all the colors, so I get a lot of colors in one shot. I just hit the "print screen" key then ctrl+v straight into illustrator, I find it to be super quick even when I want to play around with different color schemes and find them from a number of various sites. I don't have a more efficient way than that though : )
sak sezo Hey! Okay, after you make the rounded rectangle, make sure to select the rounded rectangle then go "object" in the menu then "expand appearance." After you expand the rounded rectangle, try it again. I hope this works ;) At 2:27 I do the process on the smaller rectangle, do it again on the bigger rectangle :D
Alin Sandu I'm not sure what the problem is without seeing it exactly, but if you have illustrator CS6 then make sure that after you create a rounded rectangle that you "expand" the rectangle. Rounded rectangles do very strange things if ou do not expand them. Okay I hope that helps!
sorry these are silly questions but for me theres thick outlines by default around all the shapes i make and i was wondering how i get rid of them question 2 how do u get the "pathfinder" panel since i only have it in the effects menu and cant unite shapes iam using illustrator cc any help would be much appreciated :)
Thomas Swan Hey Thomas, 1. Somewhere in Illustrator (usually on the left side), there will be a box with another box behind it that has no middle to it (like a very square donut :P). When you scroll over them. the main box should say, "fill." and the donut box should say, "stroke." Click on the donut box so that it comes in front of the other box. Now, once the donut box is on top, click the white square with a red line through it (it should be right below the two boxes). This will get rid of any outline to your shapes. Outlines = stroke. 2. Go to the "window" tab in the menu and then look down the list for pathfinder, then click it. The pathfinder box should appear. If it appears in the middle of the screen, just click and drag it over to the right side below your color palette, or above your layers area. Whever you want to put it. Okay hope it helped :) Good luck!
Zimri Mayfield Thanks!! : ) worked great btw man i love your work its totally amazing some of the best i have seen!! iam just starting out at flat design i really appreciate the help :) keep up the great work and have a wonderful day.
working in CC . When I attempt to cut straight lines using the minus front method the result leaves me with rounded corners. It cuts off the area I want but I don't get that straight line across the cut. Is this happening to anyone else? Could this be because I rounded my corners in the sam way he did while working in an older version?
Hey Jake :) yes that might be why - I’m not sure. In CC, you should round corners with the little blue circles that appear in the corners of a shape once you’ve selected it :) hope that fixes it!
@@zimrimayfield That fixed it! Thanks, Zimri! I really appreciate you responding personally. On that note I've been watching your logo re-design videos non-stop for the last week and you got me hooked. I went right out and bought a Wacom, already had the CC for video work but i'm enjoying watching your toots (a fun way to say tutorials that I think you'll appreciate) and adding another skillset to my resume. Keep em' coming. Now let me know if I butchered or Kutchered this response, please.
Hahaha!! Definitely kutchered :) thanks so much man, glad you’re enjoying the logo redesigns. That’s awesome you got a tablet! If you can, try to replace your mouse with it. Lots of people end up not using their tablet at all. So replacing the mouse forces you to get good with it quickly, then also in cc there’s a setting in “general” >> “user interface” then there’s a bar to increase the size of the anchor points and points, go ahead and increase the size of those, it makes it way easier to work with points while using the tablet :) sorry too much information, but those really helped me make the most use of the tablet! You’re awesome!
