I'm a DIYer in the process of painting my thermofoil cabinets (melted off the fronts down to raw MDF) and these sanding tips are a huge help right now. I've been getting some uneven results sanding the primer and didn't realize the closed vs open cell sanding could be the cause. THANK YOU!!!
I'm going to repaint over my previously painted oak cabinets. I know once I sand I'll have some bare wood. Should I primer the whole surface before using my final paint coats, or just the areas of bare wood. Thank you! Your videos are so good and helpful! Best I've seen!!!

Hey Chris. Thanks for all the helpful content over the years. Are there special considerations for a third time cabinet finish? My 1998 custom maple cabinets were originally finished natural with clear laquer. I refinished them a few years ago using your old prior method (SW hi-bild pre-cat pigmented laquer; 2 coats primer and 2 coats top coat). Mostly VERY happy with your former process and results except I regret choosing not to sand as a few of the edges have worn off likely due to poor bonding. I may try to redo them again in another year with this 2k poly system. Do I need to worry about adding a 2k poly primer/top coat system over the prior 2 rounds of laquer? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and for being willing to update your methods and systems as you learn new and better ways of doing things.
Thanks for all the awesome tips. I have a question, what is your preferred practice on cleaning before spraying, after sanding? Vacuum, blow with air, tack cloth? Currently spraying pro industrial alkyd, or emerald urethane enamel… would love to step up to 2k poly but having a hard time navigating the ordering process. Your time and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi Chris I only have a DeWalt square sander or sanding by hand. What type of sanding paper can I attached to the DeWalt it sanding sponge 8 should use?
To be totally transparent. Exact same out of the same factory. One is yellow the other is red. I Chose Uneeda as they have over 50 years of family owned business who offers amazing customer service. They are the leaders and everyone else is copying them in my opinion.

Lol there is no "101" about this. This isn't easy work. Cost me a bit in supplies and a lot of time. But this video was helpful. This is more like a 300 level class. Plus the door he has looks great before he started. The doors im working on have a sloppy coat of white which i can seen the brown cabinets through it. This guy is super professional. I don't want an ultra flat finish. But it's good know the tricks and tips. And again this could take a week of hours of sanding and painting.
Throughout the day different parts of the cabinets get lit up from different angles, and just about everything can be seen at some point in time. Having said that he definitely does more filling than I usually do.
