Many new flatbed drivers seem to have a hard time dealing with various flatbed loads and figuring out how to strap them down, that's why we've decided to create a video on a guide to securing flatbed loads.
In this video, Mark shows us a shipment brought in by Brian, and breakdowns how the load was secured.
Hopefully after watching this, you'll have a better time dealing with the next load of heavy machinery that comes your way.

When running flatbeds, my rule of thumb is this - you will never get a ticket from having too many chains!!! If in doubt, add more!!

I like to leave loads loose it looks cool when it wobbles down the road. 80 million miles on the road and 300 years experience👍

I like the way they strapped the wheels down on that one excavator that's a pretty neat idea the only problem is the fraid to s*** strap and at least from what I could see it looks like the straps running up around the stake pocket which will cut it instead of around the curb spool.

Any cameras you use to document chaining/offloading?

This is actually tied down incorrectly in my opinion- 1st the first strap on the second machine has a bad cut in it... 2nd your supposed to have 4 points of contact for your tie downs...I don’t know if it’s different because it’s in an enclosed trailer, but normally a single chain and binder like they’re being used going through the blade or just run through the tow lug is not to code Just my thoughts

4 points of contact if machinery is over 10000 pounds

@@sweetness2689 yes exactly, which none of them are

@Big Dog88 right, so none of them needed to have 4 point like you said. Also, this isn't an enclosed trailer. It is an open deck trailer with a rolling tarp system.

And I hope that mini excavator is under 10,000 pounds because you need four separate points of securement if it's over 10,000 .... And the rotation function has to are they locking mechanism or pin to lock the rotation of the machine. Like I love ET transports videos but since you're so well-known you need to give out a little bit extra information because guys look to you for information when they're on the road trying to secure their own loads...

Has anyone studied the difference between placing the left-right oriented chains from the vehicle to the anchor point on the (1) same side or (2) opposite side (where the chains crisscross)?

I think it matters to alternate. Some Drivers either don't know, don't think so or just don't care

The webbing is being crushed and pinched as it being winched at the stake pockets causing severe degradation to the webbing .

I’ve loaded hundreds of Bobcats. The part I find disturbing, Bobcat makes all their machines with tie down points and this guy didn’t use half of them. Trackloaders have oval cut outs in the arms, he didn’t use them. Mini-x’s have tie down points on the track frame, he didn’t use them. The boom he actually got right. I’d never use a ratchet strap to secure one of these. Chains only. Fail!!!

Great Securement, But The frayed Strap should be put out of service.

He failed the demo in my opinion. Didn’t tug the chain and say “that’s not going anywhere” this whole load is doomed
