Flea market haul "camping edition" I liked the hatchet, but the knife was amazing! I would love to see videos on those as well as the frying pans. Since my heart attack 6 weeks ago i have been living vicariously through you and several others in the tool community. I hope to get back to the shop and have some fun soon. Thanks for all you share!

I'm not a camper, but I think the Zebra stainless mess kit is very cool. Light, practical and convenient. The knife multitool looks just like the one my oldest brother carried for many years. Haven't seen one for years. The Boy Scout hatchet is a great score. I think the leather sheath contributed to the rust on the blade. BTW, in the last video you took those rare wrenches to just the right cleanup level. The light oil gives them a sheen and protects them. They look good on the wall. My comment didnt post.
@Uwannawatch
@Uwannawatch 2 месяца назад
Hey Pat! I'm telling you as soon as I picked that multitool up I was right back to being a younger me running around the pine barrens of Jersey..We spent all of our time there or at the water fishing.. I think you're right about the sheath so when I get the replacement I don't think I'll keep in on all the time. Thank you for commenting on the wrenches I really wanted to preserve them. I don't know how RU-vid works but Ya everybody is having trouble with comments..

@paulhunt598
@paulhunt598 2 месяца назад
In my brief stint with BSA we learned and called things by the "proper" name. Our scout master and my general rearing from my dad were sticklers for that detail. I only skimmed through the comments, but I didn't see anyone call the BSA hand axe anything but a hatchet. My nerdy childhood instructors taught me that a hatchet is a carpenter's tool. This tool (hatchet ) is hammer length, straight handled, has a straight cutting edge, and a hammer face. A hand axe is a woodsman's tool, curved handle for primary use for chopping and splitting. The butt is intended for only driving soft materials, like wood. The blade is curved and the head is contoured for mild splitting duty with a gentle relief behind the cutting edge wedge before beginning the gentle major taper. The hand axe is a miniature hand held version of a full size or mid size axe. Now approaching 70, I recall my rearing and my emotions won't allow the name misapplication for axes and hatchets. I am too young to have any practical use for a hatchet. My father would still occasionally use his to do some wood shaping carpentry tasks when I was a kid. I was raised to use tools for only the designed purpose to avoid damage to the tool and work. These characteristics won't allow me to use a screw driver for a chisel or pry bar. I can't force myself to drive a nail with a ball pien hammer or shape metal with a framing hammer. I almost can't use an adjustable wrench "backwards". When I do, I only use it that direction for light duty tasks. Proper and specific tool use means that my tool hoard is mandatorily large, but most of my tools remain in pristine functional condition. My abused tools came to me used, except in very few regretable and shameful occurrences. I think that I am naturally inclined in this hyper direction, but I routinely blame my rearing. I am not much of an axe guy. Real axe guys will really pontificate on this topic and put me to shame!

Hi Paul I'm George..I'm a plumber. I spent a lot of time working in construction as you know and we just yell out what tool will do the job. "Throw me a hammer" I don't care which one I just need a hammer. I do see what you're saying though and there are actually a lot of people who are sticklers about what to call things..trust me I know..LOL. You my friend I feel could hold your own in any conversation with anyone. Take care and talk to you soon.

Great video George!! I think you should restore the knife fork spoon multi tool. In the early 60’s when I was in Boy Scouts I found a knife like that someone from a previous camp group that lost it. My inner voice said I should turn it in so I did. The Scoutmaster said he would find the owner… well I found out he kept it and said how some dumb kid gave it to him… Oh well… such is life. I felt I did the right thing so please restore that knife!!! It’s just like the one I found!!! Thanks! The Old Army Scout…

On the PH screwdriver with the loose handle leafs... I suggest soaking it in a 50/50 mix of water and glycerine for a couple days. After the water dries out, the glycerine stays in and expands the wood back to a fuller size. And no, you don't feel the glycerine on the outside of the handle or anything. Has worked for me on a couple of these screwdrivers.

Also the camp knife is very cool - I had a similar one I used to take to take on outings to the lake. One warning though - don't try to use the corkscrew. It will probably just break like mine did and you will have no way to open your wine unless you have a real corkscrew with you. 😁 I would love to see all three restorations!

I came across your video by chance (I’m in the UK). The stainless steel, two tier container with lid, clips and handle (at about the 2 minute mark) is a tiffin container, used for carrying a lunch in India, Pakistan and other Asian countries mainly. You might have, for example, rice and vegetables in the bottom one and a curry in the top. You could have three or four tier containers. In India, enterprising ‘dabbawalas’ deliver prepared lunches to large numbers of people at work or children in school. There’s much more information on the internet, but the mind boggles at the distribution of huge numbers of these meals at lunchtime - India has a very large population. Hope this is useful. (You don’t cook in them, but they can be kept in an oven to keep contents warm.) Forgot to say, ‘tiffin’ means snack or lunch. 👍🇬🇧👍🇺🇸👍

Got one of those hatchets inherited it had to make new scales for the handle and clean and sharpen nice little piece to make kindling with.
@Uwannawatch

That's cool! I'm lucky that i don't have to make the scales. I think it'll be a good little hatchet but I 'm not sure how much use it'll get. I already got a favorite kindling splitter.

Yes clean up the knife. I also don't think that the thing you thought was a divider is a divider. I may be wrong, but I think it's a saw. The saw gets overlooked a lot as a divider. On the bottom of the big blade should tell you who made the knife. I'd like to know who made it because for 2 dollars that's a great find.

I am in the process of restoring a Falls City Kelly Works axe ($7 for the rust axe head with a mushroomed back; been grinding it out with belts and discs to restore its shape). Would love to see how you restore the hatchet.
