No. Not underrated. Everyone who was playing blues or blues/rock professionally at that time knew who he was and what he could do. (At least according to plenty of sources that said he was well-known in those circles.) And often, he wasn't even the best guitarist in his own band. So, no. Not underrated at all. He was a good guitarist, not one of the greats.

Thank you so much for posting. This is my favorite FM album. It does give me chills, even now. The lead off song is my favorite on the LP. It takes me back to 1971 every time i hear it. It was a different world , for sure. This album was one of transition, with the addition of Bob Welch, who adds a great element to the band. The first ten albms by FM are their best. I thought that " Mystery to Me " , would give them commercial sucess, and it nearly did. I think it is sad that it wasn't until Buckingham and Nicks arrived that the group headed into superstardom. It always irks me when i encounter someone who is surprised that FM had any albums out before the 1975 album " Fleetwood Mac ". So much great music from the band before Lindsay and Stevie joined up.

At that time Stevie Nicks ruled. All these years later, I have explored their catalogue all the way back to Peter Green. And of course this gem of an album with so many beautiful songs. John MacAulay 13 January 2018 Many thanks to Thomas for sharing some of the VERY BEST of Fleetwood Mac. Danny Kirwan's playing is nothing short ofBRILLIANT...an enchanting example of "Less is More," especially on WOMAN OF 1000 YEARS and SANDS OF TIME. He sparkledin much the same way on BARE TREES (ie. SUNNY SIDE OF HEAVEN, DUST and SENTIMENTAL LADY). It's a shame that his WHITE FLAME dimmed in his solo career, but for 4 or 5 years that baby-faced virtuoso made my high school listening veryenjoyable! If the CD format had existed in the early '70s those two LPs would have formed one of the very best discs...EVER!This is not to discount the chemistry of F-MAC during the Post-Peter Green years. The namesake rhythm section, Christine McVie, and Bob Welch, along with Jeremy Spencer (on KILN HOUSE) had much to do with that cohesive blend of melodic bliss.What a wonderful era of music...THAT VINTAGE of the MAC was very underrated in those days. 45+ years later I appreciatethat echo-laden offspring of "ALBATROSS" even more!

Paul Stoker I haven’t seen Danny for a few years since he moved abroad. He was in great form when I attended his leaving do. I’m sure he’s fine... the stories about his situation were extremely exaggerated and plain false. I met Peter with him and know they are in contact and on good terms. Danny has no regrets. He’s a very funny man with a great sense of humour.

Don Crouch Thanks for your words brother. I sang “Dust” in a local bar on Sunday in Danny’s honour. I’ve been listening to his solo albums too. Some really fine songs and performances. It’s great to see all the love for Danny. He was a lovely man. He helped me with my grief for my father by making me laugh every time we met. He had friends and love in his life, he was loved on a personal level and was very happy in his life. I can only think of Danny with laughter because he laughed at everything, including past difficulties. He was a happy man. That’s how I remember him. Take care. Rest in peace Danny. Well done.

Love Danny somehow I got lucky when I was a little kid my first album was Kiln House I picked it out of what was there at a grocery store in AZ and it is still one of my fav albums the other I picked was Tumbleweed Connection just when by album cover energy I wasn't aware of but drew me to pick these two and I got home and was like what the hell is blood on the floor doing here bahaha still wonder about that.both albums started my musical journey but what a pick that was like winning the lottery can you imagine ? I realize now what an amazing rare beautiful talent Danny was I love the way he plays hits those notes you know the ones that bring pleasure I just wish there was more music more video from old super 8s anything just more of Dannys talents.

Future Games is the fifth studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 3 September 1971. It was their first album to feature Christine McVie as a full member. This album was also the first of five albums to feature American guitarist Bob Welch . “He was totally different background - R&B, sort of jazzy. He brought his personality,” Mick Fleetwood said of Welch in a 1995 BBC interview. “He was a member of Fleetwood Mac before we’d even played a note.”

Yes it's my Favorite Mac album, I was in love with Christine for so long.Kirwan was splendid as well as Bob Welch.IMHO when Stevie and Lyndsey came it was never the same? An old friend turned me on to them in the very early 70's and we went to see them at UNC-Chapel Hill along with about 200 others. I stared at Chris all night ,finally caught her eye and mouthed I LOVE YOU and she smiled and I died a wonderful death!!!

i have a favorite moment on this album. It occurs on the Future Games track where at the end the power chords come in oh so slowly in the song's "you're not the only one" stage....gently those chops roll in and then rip out my chest cavity....affects me the same way every day.... reminds me of our 100 day acid runs.
@baliscotsurf

interesting about the trips. This period in our collective lives ..fans & musicians was heavily influenced by Psychedelics. The music was being written & played on Acid, mescaline..etc..Woman of 1000 years & Sands Of Time are ethereal and take me back to Kauai and magic mushrooms growing out of cow patties..eating them on the spot..( yuch!!) coming on while listening to Future Games

Did you know that Peter Green wrote Black Magic Woman? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VbKREkuDh3s.html Check out the blues on the early Peter Green albums. Their foray into pop music solidified with Then Play On, Kiln House, Future Games and Bare Trees. Christine continued her incredible writing after Nicks & Buckingham joined, but I could never accomodate Nicks' nasally vocals.

This album shows the direction that FM were heading towards. Eventually getting there with albums like rumours despite many changes of personnel on the way. Another significant point being how good the music was thanks to the contributions of the other members. Mick and John are such a fantastic rythmn section and really push the complex Sands of Time to a level that is comparable to that of 'Go your Own Way'. Once Danny went solo he did not always have such great musicians backing his work and this really shows in many of his albums.
