this song starts out like a locomotive, slowly chugging along then picking up momentum until it's roaring down the tracks full steam ahead..... then finally slowing down at the end of a thrilling ride.

The guitaring speaks for itself. The key is Mick Fleetwood, who sets a pace that brings out the best in his mates. What makes this such a monster is the drumming. This was the best period of Fleetwood Mac, the best of blues-rock.

The more I listen to Peter Green the more I am so thankful my friend clued me into him about fifteen years. He was truly a remarkable musician 🤘

Just discovered this six-year-old post and so glad to find it! Thank you! I think they might have played this to open their set at a little dance hall called the Sound Factory in Sacramento in 1968 or 69. Can't be sure because memory fails on details. I think it was their first USA tour, or at least to California. They looked so young...around my age at the time (19) after a year in the Air Force and just before going to southeast Asia. I was surprised how informal they were and wearing jeans, t-shirts and sneakers. The first thing Peter said was something like "We're a bit nervous, do you mind if we jam a little to loosen up?" Years later after buying all their U.S. albums (up to and including Future Games) I grew to love "Searching For Madge" (edited version on Then Play On) but only more recently started to believe they might have jammed on it to start that show. Which, by the way, wasn't even a full house in a smallish venue. I had just started to learn to play guitar...didn't realize then what a treasured memory it would be! Wish I could bring up more details on my brain's hard drive...haha. But I do recall them starting slow and eventually building to this same hard charging pace and multiple guitar duels. Just got chills thinking about it. Sorry for the long ramble.

These guys certainly could play. 'Searching for Madge' must be nearly 50 years old and the sound quality is amazing, still sounds fresh, even today.

What an awesome jam session. My favorite FWM cut. I wonder if there is any video of them playing this. Mick Fleetwood was just dynamic on the drums in this. You can recognize Danny Kirwan's sound on guitar. I have this on the 3 CD set Men of the World Peter Green is one of the greatest guitarists.

i can see the maniacal look in mick fleetwood's dinner plate sized eyes as he pours his heart out into pounding on those drums during this session.

I wish it didn't take someone's passing for me to start listening to this stuff, Peter Green was amazing, the whole band was amazing, and Mick Fleetwood must be included in my ever expanding list of top ten drummers 🎸🎸🎸

Fleetwood Mac brought a little light, wonder and humor into a period of obscurity and weariness in my life. Listening to it many years later, my sensitivity and admiration I felt for it grew. A difficult listening at first, he lends the orchestral direction of his flayed intelligence, until he draws you inevitably into his universe. Each listening reveals a little more of its mystery, its magic, this work becomes ineluctably timeless “Imperial”🌷

Peter Green exhibits a direct connection between his head heart his fingers and a higher power.. Peter's love for the Delta blues and the Chicago blues sound gave him a starting point to emulate the greats . On this song and the Then Play On LP Peter showed his skill by combining the American blues with a more modern rock style creating a sound that put his skill and pushed the blues into another stratosphere that set fire to his music with the fire of his desires. Peter created a sound that is still being heard today and emulated by the new boys in town . Peter was a generational talent that has not been seen since he left us in 1970-1971. RIP to The Green God

This jam is simply fantastic. Danny & Peter playing off each other is a wonder to listen. Both of them were my heroes since my days in '70. They influence my style of playing. Their music will live on forever. RIP for both of them. SL

The only other bands I ever heard play with this much passion and virtuosity in jam sessions were Cream, Mountain, and The Allman Brothers. Pretty good company there. But early FM were in their own class. Brilliant.

The band are firing on all cylinders here and thanks for the download. Peter plays with his heart, head, his fingers and a Higher Power. During the British Blues Boom of the 1960's Peter showed his superior feel, tone and understanding of playing slow enough to feel every note and yet add to the balance of the song. He did not feel it necessary to stand out as the guitar God but a member of a band, his lack of ego made for a better overall sound, each band member felt and was part of the finalized product. Even though Peter Green past on his music will comfort us. RIP Peter

I missed an entire lifetime of extraordinary music. Not sure what I was doing or where I was, but I f'&&d up real bad. While I tuned out top 40 AM in Detroit and tuned in WABX to hear real music, I missed real music. This is...extraordinary.

Nothing as bluesy and psychedelic as the Mac with Greene and Kirwan Needless to say but the driving drumming of Fleetwood is awesome
