The lyrics are pretty vicious. Written by Lindsey Buckingham and directed at his ex- girlfriend Stevie Nicks. There was always tension and drama with this incarnation of Fleetwood Mac, probably why the songs were so good.😎
The love/ hate relationship between all five members was really strong. You could almost see one look shooting forks and the other shooting knives. But the music quality was and still is undeniable.
Lindsey Buckingham the guitarist, & Stevie Nicks the tambourine playing singer, Had a romantic relationship that went sideways, & yes the tension is palpable.
The whole album (that this song comes from) was named Rumours for the whole "rock soap-opera as an album" that Fleetwood Mac had become at the time (although to be fair, they'd always been a soap opera of one kind or another). They could make a crazy film based on the pre-Buckingham/Nicks stuff alone.
You will really enjoy the 1997 Live performance of Silver Springs if you want drama. You can cut it with a knife. Stevie Nix is such a badass. 💙 that woman.
Highly recommend listening to their live performance from the Dance concert, 1997, Go Your Own Way, and Silver Springs Stevie pours her heart out. Also Dreams
Landslide is from a later album but this particular album, Rumors, is regarded as one of the greatest rock records ever, it's considered to be a perfect album. I have seen a lot of reactors just start with the first song and work their way through the whole album. I bet you would love it. And I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if you recognized in some form or the other some of the other songs off of this album. The Chain is so emotionally raw and powerful. The blonde lady playing at the keyboards and singing is Christine Mcvie, who died quite recently, but damn, her song Songbird is just absolutely amazing to me. It is a fan favorite. But I would strongly suggest you listen to the album version before watching a live version because that's the way we heard it on the radio and on our turntables over and over. It's so good.
@@fewwiggle They had started doing / developing that song while they were still a duet before Fleetwood. Both the song Crystal and Rhiannon were in their stage act. Crystal is on their duet album Buckingham Nicks. Check it out when you have a minute.
Mick "Fleetwood" and John "Mc"vie started and named the band adding an a to make it Mac. Johns wife Christine the piano player and singer joined later. Lindsey and Stevie were already a couple and in their own band Buckingham and Nicks when the two bands joined forces. Lindsey is the most under rated guitarist of all time and Stevie is inimitable. The entire band was all stars.
Another famous breakup style song is “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt. The song was originally written by Gwen Stefani and her brother Eric Stefani, as a love song. Gwen modified it into a breakup song. She and band member Tony Kanal were in a relationship and he broke it off after 7 years.
I saw the great Fleetwood Mac in August 1975 at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium. Outdoor concert with Bill Graham promoting the legendary show. It was labeled "The British Are Coming" And British Invasion. The headliner was Robin Trower, Then Dave Mason, Peter Frampton and then Fleetwood Mac and the show opened with Gary Dreamweaver Wright. Incredible show. Wow
There were two couples in Fleetwood Mac - John and Christine McVie, and Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks But when this album was being made both couples were splitting up This is Lindsay's 'break-up' song to Stevie He didn't want her objecting so he kept the lyrics from everyone until they'd recorded all the rest of the song
Lindsey Buckingham (guitar/vocals) was recruited to the band and was in a relationship with Stevie Nicks. He offered to join the band, but it was conditional upon the band also taking in Stevie. The love soured after this and the song was written about their parting.
Yes the two lead singers were splitting after a 6+ year relationship. The keyboardist and bassist were getting divorced, and the drummer and his wife were also splitting. Yep, there were hard feelings to spare.
Try listening to some of Stevie Nicks ( the female lead ) solo stuff . Her voice is from heaven and so unique . Also dig out some Stevie singing with Tom Petty, a pair made in heaven.
As a little Vals I loved this song, a lot! For me the song can never have a cover version that will outshine the original. Later I bought the album and it is a fantastic album. The guitarist and the blonde had a relationship before they joined Fleetwood Mac. Quite a number of songs is about this tense relationship. Also the keyboard player and the bass player were married and broke up later. The blonde also had an affair with the drummer while he was already married ... spicy band indeed! I would reccommend the song "The chain" which i like even better than "Go your own way" ...
Did you notice that the guitar player never looked over at her, not once? This is his song with the words directed at her. Watch the concert "The Dance" from 1997. More than 20 years after their initial breakup and they were STILL mad. Watch her sing "Silver Springs", and watch the looks then.
Great reaction! One of the great 70's bands! I did a quick search of your content and I noticed that you are missing reactions to Eagles! Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, Heart Ahe Tonight, many, many more ... I bet you love them
Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood had an affair after the singer dated their Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Lindsey Buckingham. Here's how Fleetwood described Buckingham's reaction to the illicit romance. Singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac as a couple on New Year's Eve 1974.
That was a really old version of the song, there are cleaner newer versions by them, but that was still amazing :) Fleetwood Mac have so many great songs, so so many.
4 of Fleetwood Mac were married key board player married the bassist , the lead guitar married the lead singer . The drummer is married to someone outside the band . A few songs relate to breakups and divorces . The Chain relates to personal stuff put aside and the band is the chain and not to break this. If you watch the The Chain live the looks between Stevie Nicks and the Guitarist is priceless LOL
Taylor Swift has written and sang songs aimed at ex-boyfriends...strictly amateur lol Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks wrote songs about each other that the other would have to sing/perform in the studio and on stage.
FIRST I don't know if it's because you have the lighting just right or a great camera but you have maybe the best picture quality I'm noticing compared to others. LANDSLIDE Live you might as well just do it 😉 You know you want to! Great Job!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Yes, lots of drama with the relationships within the band, when they recorded the, *Rumors* album, as well as tons, and tons of cocaine snorted in the studio.
Fleetwood Mac was formed in the UK in the 60's by Mick Fleetwood (drums), Peter Green (guitar/ vocals) and John McVie (bass)... but Peter Green suffered a mental breakdown and left the band... During the band's early days, John McVie fell in love w/ and married the band's keyboard player Christine Perfect (she became Christine McVie)... Around 1974... Mick, John and Christine relocated to Los Angeles and needed a new guitarist for Fleetwood Mac - they were recommended a talented guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. Lindsey Buckingham grew up in California and went to the same high school as Stevie Nicks, who was a popular cheerleader and an aspiring singer... They both ended up in the same band and became a couple, writing & recording 1 album as 'Buckingham. Nicks' ... Unfortunately, the album failed commercially. Stevie worked odd jobs to support them, while Lindsey would go on tour as a session guitarist. There was speculation that Lindsey wanted to marry Stevie and start a family... the Fleetwood Mac saga ended that possibility, and Lindsey was allegedly bitter about losing that future w/ Stevie (Lindsey married decades later in 2000 and had children... Stevie never had children and is still single; she says she had loves of her life, but she got everything she wanted... except that elusive life partner) In 1974, Lindsey Buckingham was offered a job in Fleetwood Mac and he would accept it only if his girlfriend Stevie would join as well ... Stevie recalled Lindsey telling her about the offer and he was hesitant. She was tired of struggling to make a living and told him they would join Fleetwood Mac... The 1975 self-titled album became a huge hit and Stevie Nicks became the star of the band. However, drugs and alcohol on tour started to damage the internal relationships within the new Fleetwood Mac. In 1977, the band was under pressure to make another album... Christine McVie split up from John McVie and started dating someone in the band's crew... Lindsey and Stevie were fighting during the sessions for the album that became 'Rumours'... and they split up by the end of recording... Neither Stevie nor Lindsey would quit the band, so they went on stage always mad at each other as 'Rumours' became the band's biggest album (20 million copies sold in the US to date)... Drummer Mick Fleetwood also went through a divorce during that time. Afterwards, Stevie and Mick Fleetwood became a couple by chance and they had to eventually tell Lindsey... However, the romance was short-lived after Mick left Stevie and married her best friend Sara... So, that added to the internal band drama as well. In 1987, Fleetwood Mac had a huge album 'Tango in the night'... Stevie was struggling w/ drug abuse and wasn't 100% involved... Lindsey was frustrated and burnt out from the drama and announced that he was leaving the band before a tour was to start. Stevie Nicks became furious at Lindsey for quitting and the two got into a physical fight at the band meeting. Fleetwood Mac carried on without Lindsey. Eventually, the exes made peace by 1996 and were able to reunite the band for a 1997 tour... Christine McVie left Fleetwood Mac in 1999, but eventually returned in 2014 to tour again. In 2018, news broke that Lindsey Buckingham had been fired from Fleetwood Mac and new guitarists would do what would be the last Fleetwood Mac tour... Apparently, Stevie finally put her foot down and demanded that Lindsey be fired after a number of differences between them had erupted. Christine McVie died from cancer in 2022... Her legacy w/ Fleetwood Mac are her incredible songs like - "Everywhere" ... "Don't stop" ... 'Little lies' ... 'Hold me'... 'Songbird'...
Fun fact @05:30 Christine and Stevie sing the wrong lyrics together on purpose to try and throw Lindsey, he sings the correct lyrics but appears like he's the one in the wrong because he's out of sync with the ladies
Ohhh they look at each other. 😂 Watch Silver Springs live…so awkward. Yes, Stevie and Lindsey. I wish that hot chemistry lasted. Anyway, he wrote this as a dig at her. That’s just what they do. Perfectly.
One of the Super Groups of the 70’s…so much talent back in the day! Their version? You’re a silly little girl! Oy Vey! It’s not another version…it’s a cover. There is only one original version, by real artists! Not the crap you listen to!
Major drama Inna... 2 sets of lovers, with infidelity, divorce + as much coke as they could snort/smoke/shoot in the decade of utter music industry decadence -- the 1970s, when I was a youth/adult. Good&crazy times that many didn't long survive.
This live version is not half as good as the studio version. The voices are tremulous and the sound muddy. Why review a live performance rather than the original record which we all fell in love with?
