You hit the nail on the head, the chain is the band. The members were tearing each other apart with personal drama, the entirety of Rumours is filled with breakup songs and snide remarks but they were chained together by the knowledge they were making something beautiful out of their pain.
That bass line drop is still one of the BEST ever written or recorded. Just the way the entire vibe of the song goes "umph" when that bass guitar goes "ooom".
Lindsey Buckingham is an amazing guitarist, singer, and songwriter. It's sad that he is no longer with Fleetwood Mac. They owe a lot of their success to him.
You nailed it. I believe it was the only song they did that had writing credits for all 5 members. I remember reading an article in Rolling Stone where the writer was present for a rehearsal and he or she (don't remember) described a rehearsal of this song and how much electricity and tension there was in the air when they finished it.
You should see their performance of "TUSK", from this show. It was their encore, and they brought out the University of Southern California Marching Band on stage, to play the end of the song. It's absolutely breathtaking!
They always tried to get a local high-school band wherever they played for that one. Fun fact, that song came from Mick Fleetwoods' drum test when they were setting up! 😉
I think when they wrote and recorded these songs for the "Rumors" album and then performed them live, it was their form of therapy to get past those personal moments. It seemed to have worked over the years because they still remain great friends and even before the passing of Christine any remaining underlaying animosity has been resolved. This band made beautiful music out of their turmoil and did it in a way that can not be repeated.
Another great song from the "Rumours" album. "The Chain" was written during the turmoil in all of their lives. Lindsay Buckingham & Stevie Nicks were ending their years long relationship, John & Christine McVie's marriage broke down, as did that of Mick Fleetwood & his wife Jenny Boyd. Their album "Rumours" (1977) is one of the best-selling albums in history. All the songs on it are great such as "Dreams", "Go Your Own Way", "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun". "Second Hand News", "Gold Dust Woman" etc. Sadly Christine McVie passed away recently.
I have also loved Fleetwood Mac And Stevie Nicks, which has one of the most unique voices I never tire of; Rhiannon and Edge of Seventeen are my two favorites.
The Instrumental part is used in the UK for the opening the F1 Grand Prix coverage. When I'm waiting at traffic lights, I play it as i'm about to release the clutch and see the others, in my rear view mirror, choking in my dust ... VVVRROOOOOOOOMMMMMM 🏁🏎💥💨💨💨💨💨💨💥 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UuDph43dMik.html
Nothing greater than the band staying together at this point. I love all the different incarnations of Fleetwood Mac. Every key member was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame except Bob Welch. I believe he should have been inducted. My song recommendation is Bob Welch solo song version of Sentimental Lady. Live version with Christine McVie. 😊😊😊❤❤
By the time of this video,, It's long after the troubles of their past & for the most part,, They have put that all behind them..And yes,, It's no secret that "The Chain" is the band.
A chain is a reference the the links that make up a chain. Being the band members are the links and the band is the chain. If one link is broken then the chain is broken. At least that is what I have always been led to believe and this band is one I grew up.
Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band as a couple and broke up sometime later, but remained in the band. This song is one of a series of back and forth between them that amounts to the longest breakup in the history of the world. Listen to Go Your Own Way, Big Love, Blue Letter and Rumors.
Mick Fleetwood had a restaurant in Lahaina Town Maui that was destroyed in the fire. He used to go there periodically and play, and at times with local musicians. So sad it's not around anymore. Hopefully he will rebuild it.
Literally one of the greatest bands to ever take the stage. I'm so glad you picked this performance. I watched it at the time, and owned the DVD. The guitarist, Lindsay Buckingham, is the reason I first learned to finger-pick on guitar. The history, and the mythos of Fleetwood Mac is quite impressive.
The first variant of this band (with guitarist Peter Green) is crazy good l. "Green Manalishi","Man Of The World", "Jumping At Shadows" are all awesome
I absolutely Love your analyses of what you observed with knowing their relationship. You are so cute when you roll with your thoughts. Great song and great reaction!🙏🏼🌹💕
Fleetwood Mac wrote 'The Chain' for their 1977 album 'Rumours'... Stevie Nicks (vocals) wrote the original demo... the band re-made the song and added more parts... it became a song about the band and was credited to all 5 members. At that point in 1977, Fleetwood Mac was becoming a soap opera... Stevie Nicks (vocals) & Lindsey Buckingham (guitar & vocals) were a couple and they were breaking up during the recording... (the late) Christine McVie (keyboards & vocals) and her husband John McVie (bass) had separated, and Christine was dating someone else... Mick Fleetwood (drums) got divorced from his wife at the same time... So, there was plenty of heartbreak while this song was being recorded... A while later, Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks started dating as a couple, and they had to eventually tell Lindsey... but it didn't last. Mick Fleetwood apparently dumped Stevie for her friend Sara, whom he married for a while... Thankfully, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood eventually got happily married to new women not in the band! Stevie Nicks only briefly married a friend, but has been single w/ no children... Christine McVie married one more time after John McVie but divorced and she stayed friends w/ her ex John McVie... She passed away in 2022 w/ no children.
As a teenager in the 90’s this show introduced me to Fleetwood Mac and made me a fan. I’ve always been a metal head first. But also a big fan of grunge and classic rock as well.
If you look at the singer Stevie Nick's when she sings the chorus, she is singing at the guitarists Lindsay Buckingham. She wrote the lyrics and it's about the failing relationship.
The whole album is an ocean of each members emotions and worth a listen. One of the great rock n roll albums of all time. From their 1st album listen to Rhianon live ‘76. See some Stevie magic
Most of the songs are based on their own relationships..It's what makes them great. Back in the day, the guitar solo was used for the intro to Formula One on the BBC.
amazing concert. The USC (University of Southern California - Trojans) marching band came marching out playing for the song Tusk!! R.I.P. Christine!! It's a breakup song between Lindsey (guitar) and Stevie Nicks!
Something more about how the band works. Generally, whoever wrote the song, sung it and with three songwriters, it makes for a lot of variation in the music and vocals.
There's been a lot of turmoil within Fleetwood Mac, so yeah...a lot of their songs are directly about their relationships and what's going on with the band. The surprising part is that they've managed to come together even through the years of drama. All of the members are individually awesome and it is magic when they all get together like this.
Glad you got a chance to see this! If you ever have time (not necessarily for a reaction), the most infamous performance of this song where all the drama REALLY comes out in the is in a video titled, "Fleetwood Mac ~ The Chain ~ Live 1982". 100% worth the watch, even if privately, because it's an incredible performance, and really draws you in to all the deep feels. ❤
ya, it feels like they are telling the story on the spot there for the first time, beside that - they propably snorted the cities whole coke supply that day.
No young lady, thank you for your reaction to this song you are very very in touch with what's your reacting to. A very smart lady, you take care of yourself. Stay well.
I could hang with you, Bisscute, very cool girl. Yup, this whole concert is a gem, best I've ever seen them. The reunion served them well and we were the beneficiaries.
Excellent reaction Miss Bisscute, congratulations and thank you👍👍. I loved seeing you close your eyes and enjoy the music and the rhythm. F.M is an iconic band and has great songs. If you liked The Chain, I suggest for future reactions the following songs by the group: Big Love, Say you love me, Tusk, Hold me, Don't Stop, Everywhere and their classic Hit: Little Lies. You should also react to Stevie Nicks (the singer) in her solo career and I recommend her classic song: Edge of Seventeen and the wonderful duet she did with Tom Petty: Stop Draggin My Heart Around, you will love it.💓😉
During the recording of this album the band were married to each other and cheating on each other with the other band members. the fact this album got completed was a miracle but you need to check out the song Songbird off the album by far the best break up song ever.
Love your reaction. from the same gig you need to watch " Fleetwood Mac "The Dance" TUSK" copy and paste between ". This will get you the right video. This has a big big surprise
Love them. Thanks doll. I was there for them back in the day and am still loving their stuff till this day. Still loving you, too, Your sooo cute with the super sexy accent, Miss Biss. Shoutout from this old, longhaired hippy in the States. See ya on the next. Peace and love. Later.
Love all FM songs. You should hear "Sing Child" and "Cook With Fire" and "White Lightning and Wine" and "Little Queen" and "Love Alive" and and and...I could go on all day😅Have fun❤
