Wow, lowering someone into an acid bath and telling them that they'll be fine as long as they don't sweat really is the ultimate test of someone's ability to remain calm in stressful situations. I hope it doesn't catch on for job interviews.

Genitals, armpits, palms and the soles of feet sweat almost constantly. In most situations people have some cloth nearby to wick that moisture away before they notice it

Definitely don’t. If you’re covered in any acid do not wash it with water. Water reacts to acid and creates a lot of heat

@@silverstorm1000 dependant on what acid u r talking about... hydrochloric acid is perfectly safe to wash of with water. I work with multiple acids ranging in strengths on a daily basis.. we carry cans of diphotorine around with us. If u get any acid on u, we spray with this and it neutralises the acid immediately. Again this product is suitable for the acids and alkalis we work with.

I had a High school chemistry teacher; he said he had to make tests using concentrated sulfuric acid. The teacher drew the sulfuric acid into his mouth the promptly spit the acid out. The acid got onto his shoes and ate a hole in them the next day. The teachers mouth was unharmed. He seemed like a general who sent his troops into battle and won even though he forgot the ammunition.

I do something similar with chicken eggs to demonstrate to my students the effect of acids on naked protein (the egg white or your eyes). Therefore, the need to wear goggles in lab. When I see a student without their goggles, I remind them of the eggs, and they quickly put their goggles back on.

Strong bases like NaOH work better for breaking down fleshy things than acids. The channel Modern Rogue did it once. "How not to dissolve a body in Lye"

Yeah, they usually work better with organic compounds, which is why NaOH commonly used as a drain cleaner (Project Farm tested a few products if you’re interested). Piranha solution might work even better, though.

there is also an "aquamation" process to dispose of bodies, instead of cremation. it utilizes KOH in a heated bath chamber, which disolves all the body but the inorganic parts in your bones

When I worked in the chemical industry the sulphuric acid was delivered in steel tankers. To check there was no water present before the acid was unloaded the driver used to check the density of the concentrated acid using a special hydrometer.

I heard once in the university laboratory that if you spill concentrated sulphuric acid onto your skin you should rinse it very thoroughly, not just splash a bit of water, because of dissociation. That is that if you just dilute the acid is worse than keeping it there.

I've seen videos about victims of acid attacks where bystanders do nothing. Can you pour baking soda on the victim's face to help counteract the acid? Or would that make it worse?

There is a firm in the USA promoting disposal of human bodies using alkali, not acid. Can't remember which one. Update. There's an article on Wikipedia under the title Alkaline hydrolysis (Body Disposal). Guess this would work better on the chicken leg.

I've heard that a strong base is better for dissolving "organic" things. Like flesh. But I don't know enough about it to really know for sure.

Strong bases dissolve fats really well. That's why sodium hydroxide is used as a drain cleaner. But the bones wouldn't dissolve, I think.
