If you need a grab and go amp that can do everything from bedroom level playing up to recording and even live work, that you'd like to use as a clean amp, pedal platform of whatever, this amp can do it!... As long as you do one simple and cheap little mod to it. Don't worry though, because you don't actually have to do anything to the amp. So consider this a review of the Marshall Studio Vintage combo, as well as some advice to make this a super versatile amp by only spending an additional 50 bucks extra.
All gear in this video is my own and was purchased by myself, nothing was gifted to me and no one is sponsoring this. So all opinions are my own.

I'm going to have to try this with my Orange Rocker 15. Thanks for sharing this tip!

I didn't realise they did a white version. That looks and sounds amazing.

It is a special edition. They had a few different ones on sale before Christmas at this store, because they had their anniversary. But I always wanted to have a white Marshall, so in that way it was extra convenient! 😉

I’m looking to move from my bluesbreaker to a more Plexi sound. So I was thinking about the 1959HW with an attenuator. But this is really for the studio so I’ve been debating getting the SV20 since it’s way less wattage. Only thing is the build quality is complete different but from the videos I’ve heard it sounds pretty good. It would be nice to have a quieter amp and save money IF it really nails that Plexi sound. If not then I would still go for the big hand wired Plexi head if it really sounds better. Just haven’t been able to try either. Also wondering about a Friedman bit I feel like those amps don’t have the full vibe of Marshalls. Curious what you think thanks

I did do a comparison between the 1987x and the Studio Vintage head. It's on my channel and might be usefull too. In that direct comparison I liked the 1987x a bit better in the room, but the Studio Vintage might record better. For the past four years I've been happy with the Studio Vintage (head) and had no issues at all. But while it is cheaper and more practicle, the 1959HW will be more valuable and easier to repair. It will probably sound a bit bigger/better, but I think you could be just as happy with a Studio Vintage.

Just have a master volume installed. Simple and fairly cheap
@StevenAnthonyGuitar
@StevenAnthonyGuitar Год назад
Maybe I will, but I've heard that even post phase inverter master volumes tend to change the tone of the amp. But ofcourse, so does this method.

Great amp but The speaker is good for low gain but I prefer my greenback 112 cab. The loop is usable until volumes 5 and below, effects like delay and reverb distort too much after that point

5w mode takes a lot of the openess away but that amp is too damn loud..
@StevenAnthonyGuitar
@StevenAnthonyGuitar Год назад
@@melexdy too loud for sure, and usually I also prefer Greenbacks. But for what it is amd what I plan to use it for, it's fine for now. I don't use an effects loop, only to take down the volume without an attenuator with this one.

If you ever have the opportunity to test one out. Try a Friedman Little Sister. I had the 1x10 Shirley mini combo and that sounded bigger than my DSL40cr. The new little sister with the 1x12 combo I’m guessing is even better. Master volumes on these amps are amazing.

I thought about getting the new Little Sister before I went this route, but the SV20C was over a thousand bucks cheaper and I know these Studio Vintage amps already, so this made more sense for me.

Just use the iron man mini, little bigger than the Pedal; but real good sound and no extra power Supply
@StevenAnthonyGuitar
@StevenAnthonyGuitar Год назад
I've already got the big Ironman which I could use with this amp, but it would make it a little less grab and go. I think the Ironmans by Tone King are great though!

Sweetwater told me NOT to use the Ironman mini as it only supports an 8 ohm load and would burn the power tubes out very quickly. They recommended stepping up to the big Ironman. If using a mini, you could just replace the speaker with an 8 ohm version. Direct replacement is only $85, $125 if you decide to upgrade to a greenback.

Hello Steven! Great video! I recently got an SV20H, my first tube amp! Do you think that getting an attenuator is worth the extra price over the JHS Llittle Black Amp Box? Also, if I do get an attenuator, both the cables between Amp > Attenuator > Cab should be speaker cables, instead of regular guitar cables, right? Thank you!
@StevenAnthonyGuitar
@StevenAnthonyGuitar Год назад
Congrats, that's one hell of a first tube amp! Yes, it's worth getting an attenuator over the JHS LBAB, because you're not getting the full experience now. You're basically cleaning up the amp with it. And yes, you should use speaker cables for both.

I have a buggera attenuator for the combo and still it's too loud on 20w
@StevenAnthonyGuitar
@StevenAnthonyGuitar Год назад
@@melexdy with that attenuator you should be able to dial it down to zero. I've had that one too and could play at bedroom levels.
