Very cool vid, thanks! The body-cam plus the rollout and pre-flight inspection made me feel like I was there! I've always loved flying and would love to get into something like this, but I'm not sure it's the best place for a novice to start, even after the required training! Haha.

Nice complete flight video! I am professional airplane pilot but I really love helicopters! Thanks for share with us! Like from Brazil.
That was AMAZING!! Thanks for the flight captain!! Truly worth it...wow that was so cool... again thank you...both my son and I enjoyed that virtual flight...
To Cool to see that area from the air.... I grew up here in Marion and have never seen it from the air.... Sounds like a bucket list item... Thanks and be safe....
Thanks for the aerial view, I live on the east side of Belleview, not far from Back Achers Airfield. Only been here about 5 1/2 years but getting to know the area fairly well. I enjoyed you flight.
Thank you. I enjoyed it. Had planned some more for this year but had some engine and control issues to address. Hope to do more in the spring. I'm not familiar with that airfield. I'll have to look it up.
That certainly looks like more than side play in bearings. I’m not a full-size helo pilot, but that looks very similar to tracking issues I’ve had with some classic rc helos. I’d be significantly worried about the airframe loads that vibration is causing. Hope you solve it!
Wow l, what a beautiful, green area that you live in. I live in Northumberland UK and we also have stunning countryside…with a few castle scattered around 😂
Great flight! Is there a way to git rid of some of that vibration out of the stick..That would drive me nuts!. Perhaps balance the rotors or add a little friction to the stick?..Thanks!
I have balanced the rotors 3 times very small adjustments. I think the stick movement is bearings that I loosened too much on initial install i'm working on those now.
@@FlyNavy blade balance, track and control linkages all work together. If anything is even the slightest out of perfect vibrations such as this are common, however after more fine tuning he will get it resolved, he is definitely on the right track.
I stumbled upon this video scrolling through RU-vid, wondering if you were the one who flew right over our house, which you were lol. It must be fun up there, Belleview is so much more different in the sky than down below 😂
It is very enjoyable. I'm going to do some other town fly overs next year. I see driving videos through towns and think it would be interesting to see them from the air.
this is the closest we have to flying cars. The privacy, the easyness of use etc makes it almost like driving a car, except the price obvioulsy. So cool nonetheless.
Very amazing view, looks easy although I don't know why I think it's very difficult. I have a little doubt, does your hand go numb with so much vibration in the steering lever?
That seems like a lot of vibration in the cyclic. Did the factory balance the blades? Tracking would be second to check. It's just my opinion but you could start there. You should check all the linkages too for bearing issues. I hope this helps... I wouldn't fly it until you figure it out. Good luck. Thank you for sharing your video. Take care, Be safe
I didn't say they were bad. But they did have some play. I have replaced all 4 and they reduced the vibration. I'm thinking about pulling the head and the control path and checking all the bearings.
Turbine was hard to find. I couldn't find one and let the factory find it for me. All my time(25 years ago) was in turbine so I was intimidated to learn throttle control while trying to remember how to fly. And the turbine sounded way cooler!
@@FlyNavy logging turbine time also is a big plus in rotorcraft. I have over 1000h and still only 1.1 turbine :( I'd love to have one of these one day tbh
I understand that to be the case. I have about 2k hours and all of it is turbine. But I'm not building time for a job. I just like the performance and sound.
@@FlyNavy Thank you for this reply, it really do means alot, i am a helicopter private pilot and an A&P looking to build a career as a pilot and im looking for ways to build or buy and log hours.
@@juliorivera3355 how old are you? I got all my time for free with the military. You can go with the XE285 or the new XE290 and build time for about $25k cheaper, but if wouldn't be turbine time. I'm not sure how industry would look on experimental turbine time.
@@FlyNavy they don't care if it is experimental time. As long as it is logged in your logbook, and you recorded time meets their minimum for insurance purposes.
@@txtallywhacker We had a discussion about that on Helicopter Pilot Network in Facebook. Looks like some employers don't care and some would scrutinize the aircraft type. It never mattered to me since I'm not going to be working as a pilot any more. I also haven't applied for a civilian helicopter pilot position, so I wouldn't know for sure.
Cool heli. I live 5 mins south of Jumbolair. Maybe I'll see you in the air sometime:). Not sure if you're familiar with 12 oaks (5fl7) but I grew up on that airport :-)
@@FlyNavy right on. I haven't actually flown in quite a few years since my dad passed but I grew up flying flying a Cessna 120, 150, Cherokee 140 and my dad and I built a KR2 together. Definitely a good part of my life :-)
Just found your videos, thank you for a great flight! May be a stupid question, but are you required to have a roto wing license to fly this aircraft? Maybe a better question, what type of training should you have to fly this copter? Does it burn Avgas or regular fuel? Sorry for all of the questions, your video really peaked my interest. Thank you again.
For 3 of the 4 Mosquitos, you need at least a PPL. But you also should have enough helo hours to solo. It's not safe otherwise. For the XEL, no license is required, but again, you should at least have enough instruction to solo. I've seen more than 1 new owner who has rolled it into a ball in the first 60 seconds because they thought a PPL or Microsoft Flight Simulator was enough. 3 of the versions are gas and one version, like mine, is a turbine and I use jet A.
Thank you so much for all of the information! I've been looking at the XEL, but would want the training and feel confident before investing that big chunk of change. I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the ride Sir....beautiful. Belleview is my ol' stomping ground. Looks a lot better from the air...lol. Nice place ya have there. One sweet heli. Just my two cents, could that 2 per rev shake be a balance and tracking issue? I worked on Bell 206L's but I know nothing about your rotor head.
Thank you. I checked tracking and balance multiple times and it was pretty close for manual settings. I think I found a vertical control rod rubbing on a bushing through the mast. Hoping to test the fix in a couple of weeks.
The mini copter looks awesome to fly around in. The view you can get from them huge windows and open canopy is just amazing. Do you need a pilots license for those? I’m asking, because I’m not sure if they are considered more a personal craft or not. you pick them up for? I’d be very interested to get one of these. How much flight time do you get on a tank of gas? Thank you and love the videos.
There is one version, the XEL, that is an ultralight and doesn't require a license. But even for that one, I would recommend at least getting to a solo endorsement in helos. All others require at least a PPL. With the turbine and 20 gal total fuel, you get about 1.5 hours. It burns a little under 12.5 gph. My version with the turbine engine is about $75k with every option. I think starters with reciprocating engines run about $35k.
A novelty is a bit strong, but it is limited by fuel/ distance and the engine. But it was built for the ultralight class. Stick any helo in something with those limitations and it is what it is.
I have seen the following variant use; -2a1 in the Chinook, -11 in the Sea Knight, -16 in the Sea King, and the -32 in APUs and other ground gear. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_T62
Damn, that`s a lot of feedback on your cyclic channel. At certain parts of the video, it looks like you have vertical vibration issue 1/1 (track of the main rotor blades) I would recommend checking the cyclic channel from a to b again, pay special attention for both axial and radial play at rod ends, bell cranks etc.. then performing track and balance check.
I know. Some don't read previous posts. That is my plan for this winter. I'm pulling the whole control path and replacing bearings. Then I'll have to redo lead/lag and tracking.
Sorry I missed this comment. The only Mosquito XE version that is ultralight is the XEL. The XE, XE 285, XE 290, and the XET are all general experimental category.
They must make the engine power at thd trigger of the joystick and one hand will be always free. Only rotate/ stear at speed with left food right foot and tilt and gas/altitude with thd joystick
Awesome vid building a heli is a dream, i did not watch all 40 mins so im not sure if you said it but how much flight time can u expect on a full tank off gas?
The climb rate is impressive. Youre living life brother. Belleview is about 40 miles north from me. The main drag you flew over should be 301 if im not mistaken.
Would you recommend the XE 290? I’m stuck between the XET and XE 290. The 290 has the edge for me due to its flight time. Let me know your thoughts on both of you can. Thanks!
