Video of F/A-18 Super Hornet carrier variant aircraft during flight operations aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) as seen from the Bubble and the control tower. The Integrated Catapult Control System (ICCS), or “The Bubble,” is a station located in carrier flight deck. It combines current remote stations to provide intercommunication during each aircraft launch.
The Navy has been using steam for more than 50 years to launch aircraft from carriers.
AiirSource Military covers events and - from the United States Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

When the press the fire button in the bubble does that actually fire the catapult or is it signaling the operators below deck to initiate the launch?

Anyone notice the trainee Top Side PO and a trainee Shooter????? I’m just shaking my head.
@derekjensen597
@derekjensen597 6 лет назад
tripleheshy The point is that there are certain positions you don’t train at the same time. These are key positions during the cat shot. It’s a safety thing. When you are training someone your ability to react is reduced. The more people in training in the same sequence the great the reaction time. Just not a good practice.
@torn-_shuttle123

The key rule was if there was a “Trainee Shooter”, nobody Topside will have a “Trainee” as well. But, of course that was around 8 years ago.

Aircraft Carrier Flight Deck Operations have (2) ICCS units. 1 located to operate Catapult #3 & #4 Port side catwalk area adjacent from the Island. And the 2nd ICCS located forward of the ship between Catapult #1 & #2 in proximity to the “pig pen” area. Both systems are designed to raise and lower for launching and recovery evolutions.

@MrSheckstr 3 года назад
Not sure which carrier this is but the oldest one (Nimitz) began construction in 68 and Launched in 72. Add to that the fact that this stuff is meant to be as rugged as possible and your get that very durable (old) look to the equipment. Consider that hand microphone things rugged enough it can last for years, where a modern microphone would shake itself apart simply from the dynamics vibrations of flight opps
