Flying an airline that flew into the history books at the end of March 2024 closing off a 50 year era for the Island of Malta!
Back in February 2024 I took the chance to fly on Air Malta during the twilight days of the airline as the company was being wound down after years of lacking profitability and the EU preventing any further "State Aid" from the Maltese Government.
By the time this video is live Air Malta will have been replaced by a new company trading as KM Malta Airlines, but it won't be the same as its predecessor. I used to see Air Malta planes flying for years at London Heathrow and Gatwick, so getting a flight on them was a huge bucket list item as March 31st 2024 drew closer.
So how was the flight experience on Air Malta? Come fly with me and find out!!!

Very nice trip report indeed. It's very sad to see Air Malta disappear after 50 years. The carrier really is a shadow of what it was in its heyday with a very small route network. I can remember when they flew to Glasgow on Boeing 737s. It seems Ryanair forced them out on their home turf. I wonder which flag carrier will be the next to disappear? I think it could be TAROM or Croatia Airlines.

Consolidation of the European aviation market is well on the way during the 2010s & 2020s as it was in America during the early 2000s to 2010s. I don't want to speculate too much, but Government owned and funded airlines are the weakest links in the 21st Century.
