Thanks for the video Emilie. My Dad took up both computers and flight sims in his 80s. He didn't even know the keys on his keyboard he was that green. I remember him creating huge manuals in binders, going through checklists, flight plans, interacting with the tower etc. as best he could in FSX. Every day he would make a flight after breakfast for a couple of hours. Sadly he passed away in 2017, still flight simming at 88. He would have been over the moon with this version of MSFlight so it's kind of bittersweet for me. I'll pick it up and do some flying in his memory.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad, I was a mad FS pilot too, so much so I bought every MSFS on the market. I gave it up later because Windows updated and FSX would no longer work on my pc.(And my controller broke). I'm now looking to re-establish all my stuff and carry on flying. I hope you find the same passion as your Dad and realise how relaxing it all can be. Please continue his legacy. (hugs and condolences)

Agreed. For non-pilots like me, just having stuff saying "click this switch" isn't very useful. I want to know *why* I'm clicking the switches. What do they do? Of course, I doubt anyone could really go into detail on it as the videos would be hours long, but it is nice to have just a general idea. Very few of the videos I've seen out there do this.

Anybody else low key want a q400 to come out for this sim that's 10/10 so Emilie can fly it. Imagine the possibilities haha, proper walk through and a glimpse into what and how you do the checklists upfront. Ill be starting flight school soon and the way you speak through your flight explaining what you're doing is solid, really easy to follow along for any new pilots. Since you're a real pilot and you obviously know these things pretty in-depth considering you've gotten to where you are, could you make a few more comments about why each of these checks are made when it's important, the importance of the order they are in, etc. Something that a person like you with a lot of experience would understand. I know a lot of simmers are into it because they can't necessarily afford to do the real thing but still want to learn the technical stuff. Don't have to go too in depth, just a few comments with useful information would be interesting to see. =)

There are a great many private pilot 'learn to fly books' covering the private pilot syllabus. If you are serious about learning the 'in depth' of how to fly an aircraft you should buy and read them. They are not all that expensive and that is what 'real' student pilot have to do. The instructors give you the practical and brief theory lessons, but you are expected to put some effort in yourself.

Am trying to figure this out myself, I find using button 1 on my joystick, the trigger, give the view to the nearest landmark, when landing that'll be the airfield, giving me a quick check for when I"m at 45 degrees or whatever. I feel you pain with the adjustments you need to make. I got FS the first time for my Apple ][ and had a homemade joystick with no self centering. My brother in law was a flight instructor building up his hours so he could work with his dad with Flying Tigers way before they were bought out by Fed Ex. He couldn't fly it at all but he talked me into my first successful landing. Neat thing, just before his dad retired they had a chance to fly together as pilots on a 747 international flight. Gary lost his seniority after the buyout, ended up flying 727s domestic at the end of his career.

Ok just starting watching it but I have to comment. Set your damn stick up however you want! The joystick can actually be configured to work on either side. Makes perfect sense why you did that to me. I think just about every commercial plane has the throttle on the right, not the left. So it would make sense that is where you would put it. Only thing I have seen with the throttle on the left is fighter jets. F-16's had the throttle on the left and the stick on the right. Older ones like F-4's and stuff like that ( I was a mechanic on F-4's in the Air Force) have the throttle on the left and stick in the center. And since you fly commercial planes for real I would think your right hand would naturally drop down to the throttles to control them. Just like shifting a car, unless you live in the UK lol. I wouldn't reverse your controls just because some internet trolls get triggered. It isn't your fault the controls were made wrong.
@ovatone
@ovatone 3 года назад
Actually this joystick can't be configured to be on the left. I mean you can use it on the left, but it won't be comfortable, as there will be nothing to rest your wrist on. It was clearly not based on commecrial aircraft controls so it's not 'made wrong'.
@stal2k
@stal2k 3 года назад
@@ovatone The throttle is where you would really get in trouble trying to switch hands lol.. and ya the X-52 is an older HOTAS that is general-purpose so it's not "made wrong." I'm sure if the MSFS content gets traction it'd make sense for her to grab some better gear.
@biteme263
@biteme263 3 года назад
@@ovatone Hmm I thought sure my x52 came with extra panels to convert it to left hand. However after looking in the box you are correct it can't be swapped. I wonder what stick I was looking at that could be? I know it was one of them I was looking at. I swapped my controls to see how it would feel. Not bad honestly. The stick is fine. Feels good enough and you can hit all the buttons just fine. The throttle is a little strange but usable. And to be honest if I remember correctly that throttle was a pile of crap out of the box. I really wish they wouldn't bother with the contours, hand rests and hand specific button layouts on them. They would work just as well without them and be more universal. The x52 especially seems to be more about looks than function though. Not the best purchase I have ever made. I don't hate it, but for the money I feel it could have been better.

A lot of the joystick and throttle combos out there seem to be aimed at gamers wanting to fly F15s or shoot lasers at asteroids, rather than practice aviation procedures. I'm planning to buy the Honeycomb yoke and TQ for this reason. Great video anyway, I haven't flown for over a decade now so this kind of resource is great for jogging my memory. You remind me of my instructor, she was similarly relaxed and matter-of-fact, with good banter, a deep love of flying and (luckily for me) endless patience!

If someone wants to fly an f-15 that does not mean he's a gamer. Try dcs world f/a-18, that's a very deep and accurate simulator, and you want to have the throttle on your left hand if you're into it.

As a Toronto resident, it was quite disappointing to see how bad some of the areas of the city look in FS2020. Also for some reason there's an elevated river in the Mississauga/Oakville area lol

@@CrashForce A handful of cities worldwide have been hand modelled, and for some there is 3 dimensional Bing map data. For most towns and cities there is currently no such info, so they apparently are using an AI to interpret regular Bing maps and approximate what may be there. As Bing maps continues to improve, this data will get better, and the details should get more accurate.
@CrashForce
@CrashForce 3 года назад
@@Ashlynn.HudsonWelburn Do you happen to know which of the cities have been hand modelled? I'm genuinely curious to know as that would taken a long time to put together. I actually thought that only about 40 airports were modeled by hand and that was about the only thing they touched by hand on the entire planet but yes I'm looking forward to the future updates of Bing Maps.

@@Ashlynn.HudsonWelburn My main issue with Toronto is that they placed generic buildings on top of some really poor imagery taken from Bing Maps. This imagery also includes 2D images (top-down) of the buildings that are replaced by generic buildings and even 3D versions of themselves. It just looks weird to have an image of the building laid on the ground and then a 3D version on top of it if that makes sense.

Look likes the landing was a 3points one... the nose wheel seems to touch first, which is not very good :) Little tips for the knobs : you should be able to scroll over to rotate those buttons, which will much more easier than click multiple times! Nice video as usual, with very useful explanations for non pilots viewer... and pilots who never use G1000 (my case :) )

Did you think about creating an amazon wishlist or a donation pocket? So people could buy you for example a YOKO Joystick and Throttle or Honeycomb Joystick and Throttle? Being able to use the sim realistically helps you and your viewers, but the peripherals are quite expensive, but maybe viewers are willing to donate? :-) I am working for Lufthansa myself, so I know your situation... :-(

Wow, you are rather meticulous with your check-list. I'm more of the "Is the plane still there?" check. FIREWALL IT, BILLY!!! While making some sarcastic welcome announcement to my fictitious passengers like "Thank you for flying Air Charlie. Today's route into Seattle-Tacoma is estimated to be 95 minutes, but we think we can do it it 60. I have turned on the "fasten seat-belts" light because the co-pilot has been smashing cocktails of night-quill and Redbull since 5 am and is currently engaged in a shouting match with demons that only he can see, I'm anticipating a dog-fight to commence at any moment. We know you have a choice in air carriers and you chose poorly"
