Hello again! Since Christmas the northern part of Germany was under water. Now many fields are only mud. The farmers couldn't do their work. Meanwhile It's becoming a little bit better and we can start looking for flint tools here in my area.

Hi Paul, As one viewer, I appreciate your openness to hear a different viewpoint, and the decision to change your hunting style. You're unlikely to hear this from another viewer, but there are other esoteric reasons for leaving things where you found them. For example some tools, stone effigies, carved bones, etc. may actually be prayer offerings from our ancestors. Usually prayers like that were meant to ensure abundance, balance, and good relationship. When we take those away - we are taking something very precious from our lands as a result of our collective forgetting- and if you believe in that sort of thing - our ancestors, animals, plants, etc. are worse for it. Many Native Americans are upset at the way cultural objects are stolen from their ancestral sites and never returned for that and other reasons. There are also scientific reasons - as you mentioned, like using cultural objects to establish migratory patterns and trade routes. So thanks. I'll keep watching! I've learned alot about ancestral lithics from your channel and for that I am very grateful. Be well.

Good to see you back. Can I presume they tripped you over with the local Historic Environment Act? As I understand your local act the approach to lithics here in Blighty is very different. Just curious if this is the standard debate that most archeologists give to private collectors about “preserving for the future generations” and site degradation, or is there something else that has changed. It hurt my soul to see you put that black phase back in the ground…Over here archaeologists are so quick to tell us how much damage we do by collecting but there is no efforts to preserve or prevent the destruction from construction or development. On our side of the pond, it’s all bureaucracy and bull crap about money. It’s sad because most of the time, the preservation of history is an afterthought.

@@flintingscandinavia1878 I really hope that you are able to get involved in some excavations and such and just to verify many of the cultural era's have been studied in depth here in the us and so many of the shows especially east coast are in cultivated areas and the surface finds hold little information or value to archeological research and the collector's are saving it from the plow theres other situations in the west where you lose your stuff and go to jail but most of these involve looting grave sites bad karma anyway .and then you have private land areas owners choice .so anyway I hope it works out that you get to enjoy your outings and if that's your wish maybe make a really meaningful discovery. Myself even though the blades cores and microlith stuff is indeed very cool I would still like to find one of those finally worked axes .best of luck friend.

....from an archaeologist I find this refreshing and awesome! if only more "field walkers" here in North America were as responsible and passionate. I have never seen anyone actually find then leave the lithics in the field which elevates all this to a very cool level... I keep editing but this "approach" is actually unprecedented on YT and is a new highwater mark in "field walking" ... what would be cool would be to photograph each piece, shoot it in with GPS, do some gritty on-the-spot analysis and onward we go... this is "cutting edge" stuff, really, pardon the pun 👍

Weird logic, you’ve mostly limited yourself to searching mechanically disturbed sites, therefore, those finds are not in situ, and have no archaeological value. Heartbreaking that you just reintroduced those pristine artifacts into one of the most abrasive environments, cultivated land.

I do hope youre just legally putting them back but once the camera is off youre grabbing them. Youre not helping preserve history doing this. They will just be chewed up and destroyed by tillers and combines. I really hope you dont buy into the "The Context is Lost!" argument that does not apply to beach, river or farmland artifacts.
