Dam you Larry was feeling excited Doing a project then you mentioned an issue with the stairs now I’m crying. So glad you continued your shelf so functional! All The Best! Be Well Be Safe & Stay Blessed.
@@chhook949 Unfortunately, being wobbly could be from his MOGAD - we don’t know for sure. But he is doing better. And doing DIYs makes him feel good Alice
We had a tiny countertop of our old fifth and did this. Ikea had a wall mounted maple top at the time. It worked great and we still have the table after the fifth wheel got destroyed by a tree at our house. Great work Larry. Great idea Alice!.
@@geemoe3064 oh! Sorry about your fifth wheel. That’s what we were worried about during Hurricane Debby I bet the maple looked nice. A lot of RVers turn to IKEA. My son has some IKEA in his apartment Thanks. I do love getting credit 😆 Alice
Larry, I love your cordless hammer/drill you used to tap your fabricated wood table top in place. So glad to see you up and about. Phyllis, my wife and I are praying for you. You and your wife Alice are a hoot. This is expressed.with the deepest admiration and sincerity. 👍
You guys should start a ‘throw back’ series. Call it throwback Thursdays. (or Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, or Fridays lol I’m sure you get what I mean). Love you guys! I know you both are totally busy already with everything. Guess that’s my way of saying; Larry and Alice, you guys both rock! And have sooo much knowledge and insight [and courage!]Thanks for all that you do. God Bless. #Always (Praying for blessing)
We do have a lot going on 😁, Mackenzie We would like to go back to doing shorts on Wednesday and regular video on Sunday. Who knows. And you are very sweet - thanks Alice
@@charlesruble9384 Charles, I agree. Larry likes to be active and feel useful. This was easy compared to other DIYs, but it did wonders for his attitude 🤗 Alice
i got a bamboo cutting board.. its got finger joint corners and looks good.. your vid came up when i have all the stuff, exact same stuff and doing the same thing.. im going to try and make the top flush
@@timolson7005 Great idea, Tim. I bet it looks nice. Wish you could add a picture here. Once we perfect the placement, we may get a nicer board. But I still want to paint it save color as island. Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents hi Alice. A bit ago I wanted 2 sizes of bamboo cutting boards (small & medium) for my kitchen kit but they came in sets of 3 so the large one has been kicking around. I have a PMC cargo minivan that has a camper conversion. I think 🤔 the large one will fit as a flip-up counter extension on my counter/ sink setup, and not block the cubby hole access when in the folded down position. I just hope the screws will be both short enough and strong enough fit. Tell Larry to keep those ideas coming.
A little more complicated but you could have offset the shelf so when it's up it's level with the counter. This way you could push your laptop further away onto the kitchen countertop and have more room for mouse, external keyboard, notepad, whatever. Still a really handy feature. 👍👍
@@cccompton-p6c It’s not very hard to do. He’s done much more complicated DIYs - not for a bit though 😁 He is a little better - but he definitely napped after 😆 Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents My wife says the same about me ! She says I never rest !!!! But , Slowly coming up on 70 in a couple years!😬lol I started to listen and rest more ! Still want a new mountain bicycle! Not a e-bike !!!! Larry probably find that amusing! Take care of yourselves !! 🙏🙏😁👍
@@robertpahlowjr4257 Robert, he smoothed them a bit. But we probably will upgrade the wood - this is just a tester - he didn’t want to waste time, or energy 😁 Alice
Larry and that’s a great idea to do that! It looks great! Great job Larry! You always have great ideas to do things and make things and fix things. The counter/ desk looks great! How is it workin for you? Have a great week and weekend. Stay safe. See you soon!
Love this Larry, did you put those brackets in your store? I’ve been wanting to do this but didn’t know what type brackets to use. I glued a butcher block set of scraps together for my extension but wasn’t sure about the brackets. This is perfect. ❤️❤️❤️
I like to pilot for scews in solid wood to minimize stress and cracking. I also would remove the 90 degrees front corners and radius them to miminize impact. Just a few thoughts from an amature woodworker.
@@roybeck-u6r Roy, this was more of a test. That’s not our final fit. We made custom built in bookshelves when we had a sticks and bricks. Also other wood projects. So we know exactly what you are talking about. Great tips Alice
@@brianbelliveau5551 Brian, we have already met with two vascular surgeons- contradictory findings - but we have several dr appointments this week. Larry is feeling a bit better - he felt good being able to do at least an easy DIY Alice
I wonder if you could have added 6” (?) extensions on each end of the shelf. They would stay tucked up underneath the shelf when it is folded, then would optionally unfold if needed.
Bill, interesting idea but it would block the walk through definitely on the kitchen side. But if someone has more room, that would definitely give more counter space Alice
@@goldfinger180024 Patrick, this was more for moral than anything. We need to keep his spirits up. The sawing of the wood made me a bit nervous 😬 😆 Alice
Thank you for sharing this DIY tip. I was not aware of those brackets that make a fold down shelf so easy to raise and lower. I can think of several areas around the house and my workshop where we could use a shelf like that.
You could do that or get a folding kitchen cart from wayfair or amazon, i wd get one about 18 inches wide by 3.5 ft long. folds up when you travel, some have wheels (locking?) and some dont. all sizes but im thinking 18 in wide max by whatever length you want. theyre not too expensive and theyre lightweight.
@@Lauren-vd4qe interesting idea. I would look to see if they were tall enough. But then sitting at it, you would definitely block TV. Our way, it doesn’t block tv when someone is working on table because legs and chair go under some. Thanks for sharing. Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents actually I would not sit at it, just use it for like extra counter space, to extend off the end of the kitchen counter, or u could get a shorter length one to form an L kitchen counter.
@@daydreamer0923 Lin, this is more of what he wishes he could do. Even though this was pretty quick and easy, he gave him some much needed morale boost Alice
We did the same thing, but used a $20 remnant of corian that matched my island perfectly. Came from a cabinet maker already finished. Much prettier and smoother. Just a thought.
@@barrybluth4351 Barry, is it easy to match? Where did you buy it? How heavy is it? I like the idea of it matching the color of the wood in the island so it doesn’t stand out when folded down Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents we got pretty close! I found a cabinet guy that had a lot of scrap remnants to choose from here in ft. Lauderdale. I have a bunch of photos I could share with folks. It's thin corian (solid surface), so it really isn't very heavy at all, but yet it's very sturdy! A small piece of a nice hardwood stained and urethaned would also be an interesting option.
Absolutely love this idea. I don’t have an RV but… I’m logging this idea in my head in case I can find a use for an extra shelf like this. I may even buy the brackets for future use. You made it look so easy… I have an art room in my home so maybe…maybe…lol… I’m thinking.
@@CounselorSue Sue, it’s easy and inexpensive to do. And since you are “artsy,” think of what you could paint on the piece of wood. Or laminate pictures, stickers, etc. Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents Alice! Such a neat idea, painting on the wood. I like to decoupage designs on wood, have made wood boxes with that. So now… new ideas. Thank you so much for the inspiration and idea. Cheers (from Sue in Orangeville, Ontario…)
