As a driver, I can understand why he didn't have gloves on. I never liked running them, but I did. Never could drive as good with them on, but still ran with them on. When I moved up the late models, I was surprised that window nets weren't mandatory and no one ran them. HANS type devices were optional, with like a 50 or 100 pound weight break if you had one. The thing of it is, who is going to police having it hooked up correctly once you get on the track? There was a driver got killed at Eldora this year that had a HANS, but didn't have the tethers hooked up. At the end of the day, drivers tend to do what's comfortable, with the "it won't happen to me" mentality. Times I wish I was still running, but most of the time I thank God I got out of it with the only thing it costing me was money. Stay safe drivers.

Some tracks allow arm restraints instead of window nets. As for the gloves. I couldn't feel my tear offs so I hated them....til I got hit in the fingers by a few good size rocks. Then I learned to deal them

I knew a guy that didn't wear gloves, until he got an oil leak one race and burnt his hands so bad that he was in hospital for two days and couldn't work for TWO months and three surgeries later! He wears gloves now!

I always cringe when I see videos like this, as I myself am a dirt track racer. But the crazy thing that I always seem to see is that the driver may not have a neck restraint or even a pair of gloves. I know in many parts of the country these things are uncommon for guys to use but it's such a scary situation to put yourself in. Glad to see the driver is okay as that crash could have been a lot worse.

Good to see the cage did it's job allowing the driver to walk away. Hate to see tore up race cars though, innumerable hours & $$$ invested just to get to the track. Hope he's back in the seat!!
